To provide practice in listening and speaking skills through group discussion.
Materials:
Whiteboard and markers.
Handouts with food-related vocabulary and sentences using "I think that".
Audio recording of a conversation about food.
Procedure:
Warm-up:
Start by asking students about their favorite foods and why they like them. Write down some of the answers on the board.
Vocabulary:
Introduce new food-related vocabulary such as "mooncakes," "noodles," "steamed buns," and "dumplings." Write the words on the board and ask students to repeat after you. Explain the meaning of each word and provide examples of how to use them in sentences.
Listening:
Play an audio recording of a conversation about food between two people. Ask students to listen carefully and take notes on the types of food mentioned in the conversation. After the recording is finished, ask students to share what they heard and write the types of food on the board.
Grammar:
Introduce the structure "I think that + opinion" and provide examples such as "I think that mooncakes are delicious" and "I think that noodles are better than rice." Explain that this structure is used to express opinions.
Practice:
Distribute handouts with food-related vocabulary and sentences using "I think that." Ask students to work in pairs to read and discuss the sentences, using the vocabulary they learned earlier. Encourage students to express their own opinions about the food.
Group discussion:
Divide the class into small groups and ask them to discuss the following questions:
What is your favorite food
Why do you like it
What are some other foods that you enjoy
Encourage students to use the structure "I think that" when expressing their opinions.
Conclusion:
Review the new vocabulary and grammar structure learned in this lesson. Encourage students to continue practicing expressing their opinions in English.
Assessment:
Observe students during the group discussion and assess their ability to use the structure "I think that" to express their opinions about food. Give feedback on their pronunciation and use of vocabulary.
Homework:
For homework, ask students to write a short paragraph (5-7 sentences) about their favorite food using the structure "I think that + opinion." Encourage them to use some of the new vocabulary learned in class. They can also include why they like the food and any special memories associated with it. Collect the paragraphs at the next class and review them for errors and provide feedback.
