On April 24, 2021, 15 people came out of a cave(洞穴)in France. As part of an experiment(实验), they spent the last 40 days underground.
The “Deep Time” experiment was run by the Human Adaptation Institute (HAI). The HAI is led by Christian Clot who took part in the experiment with seven other men and seven women. They went into the Lombrives cave together. It is one of the largest caves in Europe.
The 15 people lived inside the dark cave for 40 days with no connection to the outside world. It was cool inside the cave and the air was very wet. The campers slept in tents. If they wanted light, they had to make it themselves by riding a special bike. They had to get all of their water themselves by pulling it up from a well(井)deep below the cave.
One of the most important parts of the Deep Time experiment was studying how our brains record time when there are no outside clues, like clocks or the movement of the sun. The campers could sleep and eat whenever they wanted. Over time, different people developed different schedules(日程安排). Because there were no clocks, they counted the days according to how many times they slept.
During their time in the cave, the campers took on different small jobs and projects. Seeing how they worked together was another part of the experiment. For many campers, working on group projects was especially hard, since it was very difficult to set the meeting time.

C.How the campers recorded time during the experiment.
D.The difficulties the campers met during the experiment.

A.Our brains can record time easily without clocks or the sun.
B.It was easy for the campers to live in the cave and finish their work.
C.The campers had many good ways to count how many days they spent in the cave.
D.Having ways to know the time could help the campers finish their group projects better.
Can you swim Do you like swimming Yes Well, how can you learn to swim I think the best way is to go into the water and learn. I’m afraid you’ll never learn to swim just by reading books about swimming or looking at others swimming. It’s the same with the English study. We must practice, practice and practice.
Listening and speaking are very important for beginners. The children in English-speaking countries first listen to others. Then they try to learn to speak. We can listen to English programs on the radio. You may just understand some words. It doesn’t matter. Just be relaxed, try to catch every word.
Somebody may be a good listener. But he dare not speak. He’s afraid of making mistakes. You know we sometimes make mistakes when we speak Chinese. Don’t be afraid. We must be brave. If you really want to learn English well, you must try to speak with everyone as long as he knows English, whether you know him or not is not important. When there’s nobody to talk with, you can talk to yourself in English. It’s interesting and also a good way to practice your spoken English. Remember, the more you speak, the fewer mistakes you’ll make. Reading and writing are more important for senior school students. First we must choose the books we’re interested in. A lot of reading will improve your language sense. This is the most important.
Keep English diaries. We can also write English articles. You may even post them to English magazines. Don’t be afraid of failure. Failure is the mother of success.
It’s easier said than done. Well, let’s do more practice from now on. I’m sure you’ll learn English well in this way.
12.What is the best way to learn to swim
A.Reading books about it. B.Having lessons on it.
C.Going into the river and learning. D.Looking at others swimming.
13.Which is not right when learning English

C.Listening to English programs more. D.Being a good listener instead of speaking.
14.What will you do with mistakes when you speak

How to make a small talk
Small talk is a common form of communication. It can help people know about each other and it is a good way to “break the ice”. Though small talk is not usually important, it makes others feel relaxed and it passes time nicely.
But how to make small talks First, I think it is important to smile and keep the conversations light and humorous. Second, private subjects should be avoided. Instead, the weather is always a safe topic. It’s not too personal and everybody feels comfortable talking about it. The most important thing is to give the other person a chance to speak and listen to what they have to say.
