When we talk about “good people”, who comes to mind Many Chinese might think of Lei Feng. In China, the young soldier is a symbol of the giving spirit. Someone who acts selflessly may be called “a living Lei Feng”. Born to a countryside family in Hunan in 1940, Lei grew up poor. He became a soldier in 1960. During his short life, he has been remembered as a national hero. Lei gave away his life to help others. He carried bags for the elder people and gave food to children. He once gave all the money he had to the sick parents of a friend.
Lei is not a superman, but a role model for every common person. Being kind to others is something that everyone should try to do. Lei once wrote in his diary that he wanted to be a “screw (螺丝钉) that never rusts (生锈)”. This shows how humble (谦逊的) he was, though he did so many good things. This new friend of mine, Mr Green, was a manager when he worked in a big shop. He would like to help others. He always gave away all his money to the poor or old people’s home. He lived with his son and he said he didn’t need the money. He liked talking and I gave him some desserts. I also packed (打包) some for his son when he left. Only a few hours later he came back and gave me a beautiful scarf as a gift.

Would you like to live in a city where buildings turn off the lights for you, and self-driving cars will find the nearest parking space themselves Although it might sound a little far from you, living in a “smart” city like this could happen sooner than you think.
The towns that we have lived in for centuries have changed a lot, while completely new cities are being built. One such place is the city of Songdo. In every home there will be a “telepresence” system(远程遥控系统)—allowing users to control the heating(暖气)and locks, take part in video meetings, and receive education, healthcare and government services. Around the city, escalators(自动扶梯)will only move when someone is on them, and offices and schools will all be connected to the system.
The great mind behind Songdo is from the company Cisco. In fact, technology companies around the world such as IBM, Siemens and Microsoft are already in the business.
About 75% of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050, so cities will need to be more modern to solve the coming problems. “Making cities smarter is one way out, and I think this will in turn make cities greener.” said Dan Hill, head of a research company.
