Making a fact file about a great scientist
To know what key information a fact file should include.
To collect and sort the key information needed for your fact file.
To complete your fact file with the help of the sample given.
To present the fact file and evaluate other groups’ fact files.
As a class, discuss some scientists that have changed the world. You can think of both Chinese and Western scientists in different fields. Then in groups of four, choose a great scientist to research.
List the scientists mentioned in this unit, and think of some other scientists you know of.
Which scientist do you want to do research on
Why do you choose this scientist
We want to do research on Tu Youyou. Firstly, we choose Tu Youyou because of her achievement—she was the first female scientist of China to receive a Nobel Prize. Secondly, we admire her qualities as a scientist, such as her diligence, perseverance and dedication.
Which word should you always keep in mind when you are making a fact file
The word “fact”. It is important that we collect only true information with supporting evidence.
How can you tell the difference between fact and opinion
A fact is something that is known to be truth while an opinion is what a person thinks or feels about something or someone.
As a group, research your chosen scientist. Use the ideas below to help you.

钱学森(1911.12.11－2009.10.31)世界著名科学家，中国载人航天奠基人，中国科学院及中国工程院院士，中国两弹一星功勋奖章获得者，被誉为“中国航天之父”“中国导弹之父”“中国自动化控制之父”和“火箭之王”。1934年毕业于交通大学。钱学森治学严谨。当年在大学的一次考试，钱学森答对了所有题。教授准备给他满分。但是，卷子发下来时钱学森发现了一个不起眼的小错，他主动指出自己的错误并要求老师扣分。

Interesting facts
Once when he was studying in university, Qian Xuesen did all problems. The professor intended to give him full marks. But when getting the paper back, Qian found a small error in his paper. He pointed it out and asked the teacher to give him the correct mark.
