【解读】pick up指“拿起电话”,还可以指“接电话”。【拓展】　(1)pick up还指“拾起来,捡起”,是“动词+副词”构成的动词短语,接名词作宾语时,放在副词前后都可以,当接代词it/them作宾语时,只能放在动词和副词之间。(2)pick up还可意为“(开车)接(某人)”。

2. 从句用过去进行时，主句用一般过去时。

While I was watching TV, she was doing some cleaning.
when用于过去时态。
1. 状语从句表示短时间的动作，主句常用进行时态或完成时态。
When I came in, he was reading the newspaper.
非延续性动词：come, go, leave, arrive, meet, die等。
2. 状语从句表示长时间的动作或状态，主句常用进行时态。
When she was making a call, I was writing a letter.
3. 表示突然发生某事，意思是“正在……时突然”，主句常用过去进行时，when从句常用一般过去时。
