“Are you listening, Simon?” Simon's teacher asked. It was a pretty usual question.
Simon shook his head, smiling. He hardly listened or tried hard in class. Talking was so much fun. He wanted to be heard rather than listen.
“Listen, and you'll learn something, ” Mrs. Jacobs tried every day, but Simon never paid attention.

Simon sat in class, bored. He watched them talk to each other as if the teacher wasn't there, but he couldn't even do that. In the math class he could hold up fingers if the answer was less than 10, but that wasn't fun. He decided to try to pay attention.
He could do his homework that night. It gave him TV and game time with his work all done.
The next day, even though his voice was coming back, he stayed quiet again. The third day, he could talk fine, but he listened and raised his hand to speak.
What a difference that day made!

My neighbor is a very nice lady. Everyone calls her “Happy” because we have never seen her angry at anything and never heard her say a harsh (苛刻的) word to anyone or about anyone.
Happy and her husband Ben have a huge garden. They spent many happy hours together working on it. Most of the neighbors watched interestingly as Ben doubled the size of their garden. It's my great honor to have a chance to make a speech here. he topic of my speech today is “Time and Tide Wait for No Man”.
In my understanding, the proverb means that if we allow the invaluable time to waste, it will never come back to us. s a Junior Three student, time is limited for study, so no one can afford to waste time.
I still remember that I spent my time in playing games two years ago. As a consequence of that, I fell far behind others. Realizing that opportunity seldom knocks twice, I seized every moment to study. Gradually I made great progress and was awarded the honorable title of “Star of Progress”.
