Do you still hug your parents How do you feel when you hug them When do you need a hug the most
It was a cold November morning several years ago. My alarm clock had just gone off, but I was having trouble getting out of bed. My dad had died a few weeks before. I felt weighed down by sadness and depression.
Tough and strong, my dad had worked so hard all of his life to support us. He would sometimes shout at my brothers and me, but I always knew that he loved me. Still, he had been raised (养育)in a traditional way and raised us that way too. I couldn't remember, for example, ever being hugged by him.
After my mom and grandma passed away, my dad moved into my grandma's home. I was so happy to have him close by. I would often visit him and just talk with him about life. But we still seldom touched and never hugged. Finally his own health began to rapidly fail and within a few months he left us. It was a cold morning when we had his memorial service(追悼会), but I was too cold inside myself to feel it. I couldn't remember when we'd had our last hug.
I sighed(叹气)and got out of my bed. I turned on the lights and walked into the hallway. I saw my son Jim walking down the hall to meet me. Suddenly, he opened his arms and gave me a heartfelt hug. And just as he did, I heard my dad's voice in the deep inside of me say, “Joey, this hug is from me!” I cried and smiled at the same time. At that moment, in the place where the heart, the mind, and the spirit all met, I felt loved. I felt loved by my dad. I felt loved by life.

In a small village there was a middle aged postman, who just turned 20 years old and started delivering (递送) all kinds of happy or sad stories to each home day after day for 50 kilometers. 20 years flew by, and so many changes took place, but the road from the post office to the village always had nothing but the flying dust (尘土) could be seen.
“How long shall I go along this lonely road?”
As soon as he thought he must spend his life riding the bike on the dusty road with no flower or tree, he felt somewhat sorry.
One day when he finished delivering the letters and was ready to return, he happened to pass by a flower shop. “Right, that's it!” He walked into the shop, bought a handful of wild flower seeds (种子), and from the next day on, put these seeds along the roadside. Thus, after one day, two days, one month, two months… he always kept putting the wild flower seeds along the roadside.
Before long, on the lonely road, where he had come and gone for 20 years, grew up a lot of little flowers, in all seasons endlessly. For the villagers, the flowers were more enjoyable than any mail the postman delivered all his life.

Are you shy If you are, you are not alone. In fact, almost 50 percent of people are shy. Almost 80 percent of people feel shy at some point in their lives. These days, shyness is becoming more and more common. Now, scientists are trying to understand shyness.__36__
Is it possible to be born shy Many scientists say yes. They say 15 to 20 percent of babies behave shyly. These babies are a little quieter and more watchful than other babies. Interestingly, these shy babies usually have shy parents.__37__
__38__Scientists at Harvard University studied shy children. They found that 66 percent of them had older brothers and sisters. As a result, they became shy. At the same time, children with no brothers or sisters might be shy as well. Growing up alone, they often played by themselves. They weren't able to learn the same social skills as children from big families.
You may also be shy because of where you were born. When scientists studied shyness in different countries, they found a surprising difference. In Japan, most people said they were shy. But in Israel, only one of three people said so. What explains the difference One scientist says the Japanese and Israelis have different opinions of failure. In Japan, when people do not succeed, they feel bad about themselves.__39__ However, Israelis often blame failure on outside reasons, such as family, teachers, friends, or bad luck.
For shy people, it can be difficult to make friends, speak in class, and even get a good job.__40__They suggest trying new things and practicing conversation. And don't forget—if you are shy, you are not the only one.

第三节
I come from a small village. It has changed a lot in the past 20 years.
There used to be lots of fields around it. People grew corn or wheat in the fields. These days, more and more people give up planting. They build large apartments on the fields instead.
There is a small lake in our village. I used to go fishing by the lake with my friends in summer. Now some small factories nearby pour polluted water into the lake. The lake is polluted and the fish in it are killed. Nowadays, the government is trying to stop the pollution. I hope it'll be better soon.
However, something doesn't change. For example, the big tree is still there beside my house. And it becomes bigger and bigger. I love the tree. It is always a part of my sweet memories.

I am very happy to be here and make a speech today. The topic of my speech is the secret that makes me happy.
In my mind, I think the secret of happiness is playing basketball.
Like many boys, my favorite sport is basketball. To be honest, when I first learned it, I felt clumsy because I wasn't as energetic as other people and I moved slowly. But I was determined not to be left behind. I practiced in my free time. Gradually, I made progress. I can't forget the excitement when I dunked for the first time. I still remember the joy of winning a game. That's why I say playing basketball is the secret of happiness.
Basketball has become a part of my life. It strengthens my body and my mind. It also helps me become more confident and stronger.
That's all. Thank you.
