Unit 6 I'm going to study computer science
(Section A 1a-1c)
Objectives:
To introduce vocabulary and expressions related to future plans and goals.
To practice forming and using the future tense with "going to".
To develop speaking and listening skills through pair and group activities.
Materials:
Whiteboard and markers
Handout with vocabulary and expressions
Audio recording of a conversation about future plans
Images of different careers
Warm-up:
The teacher will write on the board: "What are your plans for the future " and ask students to share their ideas with a partner. Then, the teacher will randomly call on a few students to share their partners' plans with the class.
Presentation:
The teacher will introduce vocabulary and expressions related to future plans and goals, such as "career", "job", "study", "work", "travel", "get married", "have children", etc. The teacher will write the vocabulary words on the board and have students repeat them. The teacher will also give a handout with the vocabulary and expressions.
The teacher will then introduce the future tense with "going to", explaining that it is used to talk about plans and intentions for the future. The teacher will write on the board: "I'm going to study computer science." and ask students to repeat it. The teacher will also write other examples of the future tense with "going to".
Practice:
The teacher will play an audio recording of a conversation about future plans, where two people are discussing what they want to do in the future. The teacher will ask students to listen and take notes about the plans mentioned.
Then, the teacher will divide students into pairs and ask them to discuss their own future plans using the vocabulary and expressions introduced earlier. Students will take turns asking and answering questions about each other's plans, using the future tense with "going to". The teacher will circulate and monitor students, providing assistance and feedback as needed.
Finally, the teacher will show images of different careers and ask students to choose one they are interested in. Students will then share with the class why they chose that career and what steps they will take to achieve that goal.
Closure:
The teacher will summarize the main points covered in class, asking students to share one thing they learned or found interesting. The teacher will also remind students to review the vocabulary and expressions introduced and practice using the future tense with "going to".
Homework:
Students will write a paragraph about their future plans, using the future tense with "going to" and at least five vocabulary words or expressions from the handout. They will share their paragraphs with the class in the next lesson.
