Objectives:
To learn vocabulary related to making a banana milkshake.
To practice using the imperative form in giving instructions.
To develop listening and speaking skills.
Materials:
Pictures of ingredients and tools needed for making a banana milkshake.
Recipe cards for making a banana milkshake.
Audio recording of a person giving instructions on how to make a banana milkshake.
Whiteboard and markers.
Procedure:
Warm-up:
Show pictures of different types of milkshakes and ask students if they have ever made one before.
Ask students what ingredients they think are needed to make a banana milkshake.
Presentation:
Introduce the vocabulary for making a banana milkshake such as bananas, milk, ice cream, blender, and cup.
Show pictures of each ingredient and tool and have students repeat the words after you.
Hand out recipe cards for making a banana milkshake and go over the steps with the class.
Practice:
Play an audio recording of a person giving instructions on how to make a banana milkshake.
Have students listen and follow along with the recipe card to see if they can understand and follow the instructions.
After the recording is finished, ask students to pair up and practice giving instructions to each other on how to make a banana milkshake.
Production:
Have students create their own recipe cards for making a banana milkshake using the vocabulary and imperative form.
In groups of three, have students take turns being the speaker, listener, and timer. The speaker will read their recipe card out loud to the listener, who will follow the instructions to make a banana milkshake. The timer will keep track of how long it takes the listener to finish.
After everyone has had a chance to be the speaker, listener, and timer, have students share their recipe cards with the class.
Review:
Review the vocabulary and imperative form by having students come up to the board and write out the steps for making a banana milkshake.
Homework:
Have students write a paragraph about their favorite type of milkshake and how they make it. Encourage students to use the vocabulary and imperative form they learned in class.
