Aim:
The aim of this lesson is to help students learn and practice expressions used for inviting people to an event, and to build their speaking skills.
Objectives:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Understand and use the target language for inviting people to an event.
Use the target language to invite someone to an event and respond to an invitation.
Participate in a role-play activity where they practice using the target language.
Materials:
Pictures of various events (party, concert, movie, etc.)
Handout with example invitations and responses
Whiteboard and markers
Warm-up:
Show the students the pictures of various events and ask them what events they like to go to and why.
Ask the students if they have ever invited someone to an event, and if so, how did they do it
Presentation:
Introduce the target language by writing the following phrases on the board:
Can you come to my party
Would you like to come to my concert
Do you want to see a movie with me
Review the phrases with the class, and ask for volunteers to practice saying them.
Give each student a handout with example invitations and responses, and ask them to read and practice the phrases with a partner.
Practice:
Divide the students into pairs and have them practice inviting each other to various events using the target language.
Encourage the students to use different tones of voice and expressions to make the invitations sound more natural.
After a few minutes of practice, have the students switch partners and repeat the activity.
Production:
Divide the class into groups of three, with one student being the host of a party, and the other two students being guests.
The host should invite the guests to the party using the target language, and the guests should respond with either an acceptance or a decline.
Encourage the students to use different expressions to make the invitations and responses sound more natural.
After a few minutes of role-play, have the students switch roles and repeat the activity.
Wrap-up:
Ask the students what they learned from the lesson, and if they feel more confident in using the target language.
Encourage the students to continue practicing using the target language in their daily lives.
Homework:
Have the students write an invitation to a friend or family member for an event using the target language. They should include the details of the event and the date and time, and ask for a response from the recipient.
