1. wife n. 妻子

【友情提示】
although和though均不能与连词but出现于同一个句子中。
如：虽然下着雨，但我们还是去了那儿。 Though/Although it was raining, we went there.(√) It was raining, but we went there.(√) Though/Although it was raining,.but we went there.(X)
但有时为了强调, although和though均可与still, yet等副词连用。 Though she said she would be late, yet she arrived on time.

6. earn v.挣得；挣钱
She earns a high salary, but she still has none left every month. 她挣高工资，但每月还是能花完。

指点迷津：answer 与replyanswer和reply都表示“回答”，均可作名词和动词。answer为一般用语；reply的用法较正式，多用于对问题作出解释、辩论或陈述性回答。两者作名词时都可与to连用，指“……的答案或答复”。
Answer this question. 回答这个问题。I asked her the reason, but she didn't reply.
我问她原因，她却没有回答。I received no reply/answer to my request.
我的要求没有得到任何答复。answer后面可直接跟宾语，而reply后跟宾语时须与to连用；answer可表示对电话、敲门等作出应答，而reply则没有这个用法。You must reply to/answer this letter right away.
你必须马上回复这封信。Who answered the telephone 谁接的电话？ 如果是指练习题的“答案”，一般用answer。The answer to 6×10 is 60. 6乘以10的答案是60。

There was once a little grey planet. The people on it didn’t look after it, although they had many smart scientists and all kinds of spaceships. They polluted the planet with rubbish(垃圾) and other kinds of pollution. There were no plants or animals left.
One day, a little boy found a small red flower inside a cave(洞). The flower was dying, so the boy decided to look after it carefully. But everything was polluted so there was no place for the flower to live. Then the boy looked up at the sky and found the moon. Maybe the flower could live there. So the little boy put on his astronaut suit and climbed into a space-ship. He put the little red flower in the back and they went off to the moon.

He’s holding his long hairy arms out in front of him and he has a horrible smile on his face. Then suddenly he stops. His smile disappears. He picks Dorothy and Toto up carefully and takes them back to the castle.
