We all have our favourite music, films or books — but which are the most popular ever
The most popular album(音乐专辑) Thriller by Michael JacksonAt the time Jackson started writing his best-selling album Thriller, he hoped that his album would sell 50 million copies. He was wrong — it sold over ten million more than that. Even today around 130,000 copies are sold in the USA every year.
The most popular classical music Beethoven’s Fifth SymphonyWhen Beethoven was alive, his Fifth Symphony wasn’t his most popular piece of music. But now most people know the da da da dah introduction. In the 20th century, the first four notes(音符)were used by other musicians to make different types of music like hiphop and rock and roll.
The most popular novel A Tale of Two CitiesMany people think the best-selling book of all time is one of the Harry Potter books. It’s true that all the Harry Potter books together have sold about 450 million copies. But the most popular single novel is much older.A Tale of Two Cities was written by Charles Dickens in 1859 and has sold 250 million copies.
The most popular ________ The Shawshank RedemptionThe Shawshank Redemption, directed by Frank Darabont in 1994, didn’t make much money at the cinema. It only became popular later on video, DVD and TV. It was based on a book by Stephen King. The writer sold the story for only a dollar.

I think there are several reasons that suggest developing robots is a waste of money.
In San Diego recently $325,000 was spent on inventing a robotic squirrel to do some scientific experiments. The research proved that squirrels are able to scare away snakes by wagging(摇动)their tails. Do you need a robotic squirrel to work this out
What about AIBO, a robotic pet, developed in Japan In Japanese aibou means “buddy”. These pets have been developed at huge cost mainly to provide entertainment. They've been used in movies and music videos. Universities have used them for educational purposes. However, in 2006 the company stopped producing these robotic pets in order to save money. Was it worth a lot of money
Then there’s NAO, a robot which has been developed by a French company. Its main purpose is to make life easier for humans. It speaks 19 languages and has its own personality. It can tell children a story, help in the classroom or the home, or act as a companion to those people who need someone to be with. A fully developed one costs $16,000. Is that value for money Who can afford it anyway
There may be good reasons why it is worth developing robots, but so far I haven’t thought of any.

C. It may be useful but costs too much. D. It is worth a great deal of money.

An Englishman shares his experience watching a dance drama舞蹈诗剧《只此青绿》:传统文化的现代表达
Imagine you are looking at Wang Ximeng’s famous painting from the Song Dynasty (960-1279), A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains(《千里江山图》). Suddenly, its blue rivers ripple (起伏), and its green mountains move. Music draws you into the painting as it comes to life and shares with you its history. This is what happens in Poetic Dance 诗意的舞蹈 : The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting(《只此青绿》), a dance drama 戏剧 based on (基于) the beautiful piece of art.
The show is now showing across China. In the show, one man from the present interacts (互动) with the painter of the past, through his experiences with the painting.
Over in the West, dance is used in similar ways to tell cultural stories from history and reinvent (重新创造) them in the modern world. One dance piece now showing in London is called Woolf Works 伍尔夫的作品 . It shows three of writer Virginia Woolf’s novels with modern dance. While another dance show, Coppelia (葛蓓莉亚) , takes the 19th-century Dutch (荷兰的) ballet and updates (更新) it to the modern world with themes of artificial intelligence and robotics (机器人学).
China’s dance drama tells its story through the power of movement and often stillness (静止). In the show, the dancers arch (弓起) their backs and wave (挥舞) their flowing (流动的) clothes to move like rivers. In one scene(场面,一场) the dancers become huge still rocks.
The creativity behind the moves speaks to us in a poetic (诗意的) way. There is a closeness too with a live performance, a shared link between the dancers and the audience (观众).

When my daughter was in primary school, she brought home four small twigs (嫩枝) from school to plant. We all have our favourite music, films or books — but which are the most popular ever
The most popular album(音乐专辑)Thriller by Michael JacksonAt the time Jackson started writing his best-selling album Thriller, he hoped that his album would sell 50 million copies. He was wrong — it sold over ten million more than that. Even today around 130,000 copies are sold in the USA every year.
The most popular classical musicBeethoven’s Fifth SymphonyWhen Beethoven was alive, his Fifth Symphony wasn’t his most popular piece of music. But now most people know the da da da dah introduction. In the 20th century, the first four notes(音符)were used by other musicians to make different types of music like hiphop and rock and roll.
The most popular novelA Tale of Two CitiesMany people think the best-selling book of all time is one of the Harry Potter books. It’s true that all the Harry Potter books together have sold about 450 million copies. But the most popular single novel is much older.A Tale of Two Cities was written by Charles Dickens in 1859 and has sold 250 million copies.
The most popular ________The Shawshank RedemptionThe Shawshank Redemption, directed by Frank Darabont in 1994, didn’t make much money at the cinema.

Leading young people to take up physical exercise is really important. ____1____ But a report recently shows that only half of girls who were questioned by researchers enjoy doing sports. ____2____ What are the reasons Because of their dislike of the clothes they are asked to wear and the lack(缺乏)of facilities(设备)to do their hair afterwards. As more girls than boys fail to take part in physical activities, this is seen as a problem that needs dealing with.
Many of the girls questioned said they disliked wearing the skirts that are often part of PE clothes and that the clothes should be more comfortable to wear. The girls being interviewed wanted private space where they could get changed. They felt schools should supply hairdryers so that they could style their hair. ____4____ They could use this time to do their hair and make sure they looked the same as they did before the class.

None of them looked very hardy (adj.强壮的), but with hope for the future, I planted (C)them somewhere in our backyard that had enough sunlight. Over the years, because of the poor soil (土壤), three of them died. Only one survived (v.存活).
It grew crooked (弯弯曲曲的) and very slowly. It looked more like a fat bush (灌木丛) than a tree.(A).Later, I noticed that it was starting to die. The lower branches were becoming bare (光秃的). I smiled when I looked at it. I thought maybe this old tree was still useful. It might not be healthy or pretty, but it was still giving a bird a home.
