“This is John,” said Mr Turner. The boy standing next to him was tall, with a friendly face. I noticed Adam and Chen give each other the thumbs(大拇指)up. That meant they were going to invite him to join the cool group. They smiled at him and he smiled back.
Mr Turner always gave new students a buddy with the same hobbies as them. I was sure he wouldn’t choose me. I wasn’t one of the cool kids.
“Hyun, I want you to be John’s buddy this term,” said Mr Turner. Me I couldn’t believe my ears! Everyone in the class looked in my direction. Adam and Chen even looked unhappy.
John walked over to my desk and sat down beside me. He smiled at me. “Hello,” he said in a confident voice.
“Hello,” I replied, not looking at him.
All morning I could feel the boys in the cool group looking angrily at me, but John didn’t seem to notice.

Sure enough, as soon as we got outside, Adam and Chen swaggered(大摇大摆地走)up to us.
“Mr Turner says you’re a good basketball player, John,” said Adam.“How’d you like to play with us at lunch break Hyun doesn’t know anything about basketball."
“No thanks,” said John.“I’d rather play chess with Hyun, if he doesn’t mind. Mr Turner says he’s an excellent player.”

Your favorite superheroes pose (摆姿势) for photos. Video game characters are everywhere. Film and TV stars talk about their latest movies and TV shows. We’re talking about comic cons (动漫展) – huge conventions (集会) on comic books, sci-fi (科幻) and pop culture. As a big fan of comics myself, I love comic cons and have visited many.
At these events, you can go to talks by filmmakers and comic book writers and learn how films and comics are created. I’ve talked to some of my favorite actors at conventions about what happens on film sets behind the scenes. If you’re artistic, you can create your own cosplay (角色扮演), too. I once went to a con dressed as Wolverine (金刚狼), a character from Marvel’s X-Men series!
Aside from all this fun, a real joy of these events lies in the links (联系) felt between those present. You can make friends with people who share your joy for the things you love. There’s a feeling of community (归属感) at a comic con.
The biggest cons I went to were the US’ San Diego Comic-Con, and Star Wars Celebration Day in London. But one of the most special events was here in China!
In 2018, I went to Stan Lee’s Comic Universe Exhibition at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. Stan Lee was the creator of many characters I loved as a child, like Spider-Man and Iron Man. So, it was amazing to see a convention about “Stan the man” here in China.
With the world now doing its best to move on from COVID-19, we may soon get to see more of these imaginative (有想象力的) events closer to home.
1. What does the writer mean by saying he is “a big fan of comics”
He means that he loves comics very much.
2. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
What people can do at a comic con.
3. What makes people have a feeling of community at a comic con
The links felt between those who attend the event.
4. Where did the writer experience the most special comic con, in the US, London or China
In China.
5. Why did the writer like Stan Lee very much
Because Stan Lee created many characters the writer loved as a child.

( A ).There was once a company in the United States that said that it would offer (提供)a large amount (数量)of money to anyone who could find a white marigold (金盏花).Most marigolds are either golden or brown. It is very hard to find a white one.
Twenty years later, the company received (v.收到)a letter from an old woman. She sent 100 white marigold seeds (种子) along with the letter.
The woman was a fan of flowers. Her father was a florist(花商) and she learned many skills from him. When she first heard the company’s offer (开价)20 years ago, she got very excited. She thought she could grow her own white marigolds. But her children doubted (v.怀疑,不相信) her. She knew nothing about seed genetics (遗传学), after all. So her dream of growing white marigolds was just that – a dream.
Still, she didn’t give up and worked to make ( C ) it happen. She planted some common marigold seeds and took good care of them. A year later, when the marigolds bloomed, she chose one of the faintest (最微弱的;最浅色的)flowers and took its seeds. She planted these seeds and waited another year for them to bloom (v.开花).
Day after day, year after year, through many seasons, her life changed. Her husband died, her children moved away, and many other things happened. ( B ). But her desire (渴望;愿望)to grow white marigolds(金盏花) remained (仍然是;保持不变)strong in her heart.

We should do chores at home
Now many students don't like doing chores at home. Some students think it's their parents job to do chores at home and doing chores takes up their time for study. But I think we should help do chores at home because our parents are busy with their work and are often tired after work. I often do chores at home like making the bed, watering the flowers, cleaning the rooms, taking out the rubbish and so on.
In my opinion, doing chores is relaxing. And it can help us to learn to be independent. It's good for our future.中小学教育资源及组卷应用平台

Finally the bell rang for a break. I had butterflies in my stomach. I knew that Adam and Chen were going to make fun of me in front of John, and that John would decide that he’d rather be buddies with them.

2. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
3. What makes people have a feeling of community at a comic con
4. Where did the writer experience the most special comic con, in the US, London or China
5. Why did the writer like Stan Lee very much
