My philosophy ( 哲 学 ) professor was a typical eccentric philosopher, whose behavior was a bit strange. His disheveled (蓬乱的) appearance was highlighted by a well-worn tweed sport coat and poor fitting thick glasses, which often rested on the tip of his nose. Every now and then, as most philosophy professors do, he would dig into one of those existential “what’s the meaning of life” discussions. Many of those discussions went nowhere, but there were a few that really hit home. This was one of them:
“ Respond to the following questions by a show of hands, ” my professor instructed.
“ How many of you can tell me something about your parents ” Everyone’s hand went up.
“ How many of you can tell me something about your grandparents ” About three fourths of the class raised their hands.
“ How many of you can tell me something about your great-grandparents ” Two out of sixty students raised their hands.
“ Look around the room, ” he said. “ In just two short generations hardly any of us even know who our own great-grandparents were. Oh sure, maybe we have an old photograph stored away in a musty cigar box or know the classic family story about how one of them walked five miles to school barefoot. But how many of us really know who they were, what they thought, what they were proud of, what they were afraid of, or what they
dreamed about Think about that. Within three generations our ancestors (祖先) are all but forgotten. Will this
happen to you ”
“ Here’s a better question. Look ahead three generations. You are long gone. Instead of you sitting in this room, now it’s your great grandchildren. What will they have to say about you Will they know about you Or will you be forgotten, too ”
“ Is your life going to be a warning or an example What legacy ( 遗产) will you leave The choice is
yours. Class is over. ”
Nobody rose from their seats for a good five minutes.
Which of the following can best describe the professor
Untidy but considerate. B. Fashionable and helpful.
C. Neat and responsible. D. Odd but thoughtful.
Why does the professor mention “photograph” and “family story” in Paragraph 6
To share his own interesting stories.
To suggest new ways to know the ancestors.
To indicate people’s understanding of the ancestors are shallow.
To prove they are good ways to know the ancestors.
What can we know about this philosophy class
It went nowhere like the previous ones.
It inspired our thinking about life.
The professor was discontent with our answers.
The professor offered us his answers to the questions.
What is the best title of the passage
Our strange philosophy professor. B. Our memorable and respectable ancestors.
C. A gap among three generations. D. A lesson about legacy.

Over the past years, experts have carried out much research to explore different ways to encourage children’s learning. Especially, there has been a common focus on how physical activity, separated from the learning activities, can improve children’s learning. However, there has been less of a focus aimed at the possibility of integrating (合并) physical activity into the learning activities.
第 2 页 共 6 页
Researchers from the University of Copenhagen did the Basketball Mathematics study at five Danish elementary schools, the main purpose of which is to develop a learning activity that integrates basketball and mathematics and examine how it might affect children’s motivation (动机) for mathematics. 756 children from 40 different classes participated in the project, where about half of them — once a week for six weeks — had
Basketball Mathematics during gym class, while the other half played basketball without mathematics.
“During classes with Basketball Mathematics, the children had to collect numbers and perform calculations ( 计 算 ) related to various basketball exercises. An example could be counting how many times they could shoot a goal from three meters away vs at a one meter distance, and adding up the numbers. Both the math and basketball elements could be adapted to suit the children’s levels, as well as being changed for whether it was addition, division or some other operations that needed practicing,” explains Linn Dalsgaard, a leading researcher.
The results indicated that children’s motivation for math integrated with basketball was 16% higher compared to classroom math learning. Children also experienced a 14% increase in self-determination compared with classroom teaching. At the same time Basketball Mathematics had their math confidence improved.
“ We are planning to do extra research to examine whether the Basketball Mathematics model can strengthen performance in mathematics. Once we have the ultimate results, we hope that they will inspire school teachers and headmasters to give priority to more physical activity and movement in such subjects. Eventually, we hope to succeed in putting these tools into school system and daily education,” says Associate Professor Jacob Wienecke.
What is the purpose of paragraph 1
To explain the reason for the study. B. To present the advantage of the study.
C. To introduce a way to raise math grades. D. To carry out a review of former research.
What can we learn about the study
Kids were divided into 40 groups. B. It adjusted activities for different kids.
C. It required kids to do math after playing basketball. D. Not all kids played basketball.
What effect does basketball have on the participants
More motivation for exercise. B. Better performance and confidence in math.
C. A gain in desire to learn math. D. A decline in determination to learn.
How does Jacob Wienecke expect the study to help educators
Create more opportunities for physical exercise. B. Inspire students’ math confidence.
C. Notice the benefits of physical exercise. D. Build physical activity into teaching.

Even when communicating with nature we depend on technology for help — but then, so did Thoreau ( 梭罗) at Walden Pond (瓦尔登湖).
Walking in the same woods yesterday, I let myself wander aimlessly, communicating with nature.
I admired the breathtaking scenery near and far thanks to my progressive lens eyeglasses. Occasionally
I’d pull out my smart phone to shoot pictures on anything interesting. At times, I referred to my smart watch to check on my heartbeat, mileage and calorie burn. Eventually I realized I was quite lost. Not a problem of course. Online maps came to my aid.
But something hit me. In what I’d intended as a nature experience, here I was turning to very advanced technology to help myself out. This awareness encouraged a reconsideration of everything that happened during my “nature walk,” which had been technologically improved every step of the way. I’d been
functioning as a man machine combination (结合): a cyborg.
What would the true naturalist Thoreau think of that My first thought was that he’d be shocked. But later I did some research. Thoreau enjoyed what his spyglass discovered, like this eagle from his journal:
Lying on the ground with my glass, I could watch him very easily … till I almost lost him in the clouds … I think I have got the worth of my glass now that it has revealed(显示) to me the white-headed eagle.
Famously, Thoreau always set out equipped with a walking stick, which he used not only for support but also to take measurements of water and snow levels. His hat was also a tool, which he called his “botany box.”
And he was prepared even with needles and thread ( 针 线 ), so when stepping out of the woods, he was “ the
best dressed.” Clearly, Thoreau was a bit of a cyborg himself.
Thinking more deeply, I realized we’ve come a long way from our hunter-gatherer ancestors, who walked from necessity and depended on nature’s gift. Cyborgs are us.
What is the purpose of the text
To recommend Thoreau’s book Walden Pond.
To share the reflections on man’s dependence on nature.
To argue that humans have developed into cyborgs.
To question whether people are technology dependent.
Which picture best illustrates a cyborg in the author’s eye
B. C. D.
Why does the author quote (引用) Thoreau’s journal
To prove that even naturalists use technology.
To show that Thoreau is a true naturalist.
To explain how to prepare for a nature walk.
To describe the natural beauty Thoreau enjoyed.
What is the author’s attitude towards being a cyborg
Negative. B. Positive. C. Doubtful. D. Unclear.

The relation between golf and improved mental health is strong enough for golf activists to be used as a form of treatment in a 2022 study. The results indicate that mental health benefits from playing the game.
Golf is a difficult sport, with expert timing, flexibility, speed, technique and balance required as you swing a bat around 80 110 mph (miles per hour). 36 Therefore, golf teaches us to accept victory and failure equally, which is an excellent state of mind to balance ups and downs of life.
37 You can turn off your tech and concentrate on a task. It can provide a sense of calm and clearness. Spending time in green spaces or bringing nature into your life can benefit your well being. Getting
outdoors has been proved to improve mood and reduce stress and anger. 38 Golfers can receive this enough nutrient (营养物) in the body through increased exposure (接触) to sunlight.
Playing golf enables us to fight anxiety by maintaining your brain in an active problem-solving mode.
39 By keeping your brain active and in “ thinking” mode, you can focus more on the game and less on the things that you may concern you. Playing golf can give off the “feel good” endorphin ( 内 啡 肽 ) that can fight anxiety and low spirits.
Golf is widely recognized as a low risk sport compared to many other sports. 40 The games can be played at your own pace and for longer periods of time, which is a unique feature of golf. The chances of a sports injury are certainly lower in comparison with other sports like Basketball or Badminton.
It is naturally unavoidable that you will hit either poor shots or good.
You’ve to keep focused, plan moves and perform tricks.
Golf is an open-air sport that is surrounded by nature.
Playing sports with other people helps improve your social skills.
Golf is shining a light on social impacts and physical health.
There’s less stress on the joints (关节) as the swings can be adjusted.
Vitamin D is equally significant for both mental and physical wellness.

After the meeting, Isabel excitedly told Peter the good news.
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On a hot September afternoon, Peter and his friend Isabel were on their way to the library. When they
passed by Tubman park, Isabel suggested cutting through it to get to the library. As they entered the park, the
sight of the swings and the merry-go-round (旋转木马) brought back a flood of memories of their childhood
spent there. But now everything looked so old, sad, and dirty. Litter lay on the ground next to an overflowing
trash bin. There were still young schoolchildren playing there but they had to avoid the trash that littered the
playground. A little boy told them that the city took the other trash cans away and the remaining one never
got emptied often.
As they headed toward the library, the two high school students wrinkled their forehead (皱起了眉). In
the library, they met Mrs. Evans, their kind hearted fifth grade teacher, retired yet still passionate. Mrs. Evans
listened as Isabel and Peter eagerly explained what they’d seen. Finally, she recommended them to go to the Go Green, a non profit organization whose goal is to protect the environment, for help. “This group is good at raising money for projects just like yours,” said Mrs. Evans. She promised to present their ideas to Go Green. Hearing this, their face lit up.
Two main tasks remained ahead: researching ways to clean up the park and preparing a convincing (令人
信服的) speech. As Isabel was good at researching while Peter always had a talent for speaking, they worked together quite well. Isabel learned from a science magazine that a new type of trash bin can squeeze ( 压 ) the trash down without being emptied often, which saves time, money, and energy. Based on this, Peter practiced
his speech over and over again.

Dear fellow classmates,
Inspired by what we have learned , I cooked Gong Bao Chicken for my family last week and here I’d like to share my recipe///cooking process.
First, with all the ingredients prepared , I heated the oil and added the chillies, stirring them for 30 seconds. Once the flavors were brought out, I dropped the seasoned chicken and cooked it through. Finally some peanuts and carrots were added, which gave the cuisine much nutrition. All my family were full of praise for the cuisine.
It is from this experience that I feel that we are supposed to shoulder responsibility at home, as well as enjoy the pleasure of labor (劳动).
That’s all. Thank you!

【范文1】
A week later, Peter stood nervously at the back of the hall where Go Green was meeting. He could feel nothing but his hands shaking and heart pounding. “You’ll be great, Peter,” Isabel encouraged him. Just then, Peter heard his name being announced. It was time to present! Peter took a deep breath and then went on the stage. “Tubman Park needs a new kind of trash can,” Peter explained, pointing to a poster of a trash can. Then Peter explained the working principle of the trash can in detail. The judges nodded as they listened, seeming interested in the project.
After the meeting, Isabel excitedly told Peter the good news. Go Green had agreed to buy the new trash cans for the park! Hearing the inspiring news, they both leaped into the air with joy. Peter hardly had time to enjoy the moment before Isabel started sharing the news with Mrs. Evans and showing their gratitude to her. Learning of the result, Mrs. Evans smiled through watery eyes. “I know you can do it! Tubman Park is sure to become one that is clean and green again!” Never before had Peter and Isabel been so proud of themselves.

M: There were some trips, including a visit to Hardwick Hall. That was what we did on the first day. I think they expected it to be boring, especially when they heard that was a guided tour. But they were wrong, for the guide was interesting. His stories really made the history of the castle alive.
W: I can imagine it. By the way, what sorts of sports activities did you do
M: A lot. Sailing, climbing, horse-riding and the like. On the last day we had a barbecue, which was their favorite. The kids liked it very much. They all hoped to come again next year.
W: That sounds interesting and impressive.

Welcome to Student Life ! Today we're going to talk about setting up a project of student jobs in your school. Having students do different jobs around the school is a great way to prepare them for life in the real world. It encourages them to be responsible and also helps them learn new tasks and gain experience.
However, it's important to get students excited about the project, so the first thing you should do is let students know this project. Get the headmaster to make an announcement explaining the project. OK
Then decide on the jobs you want and write out the descriptions of the skills and responsibilities needed for each position. Some typical jobs are Classroom Assistants, Recycling Officers and Computer Assistants. Next, ask students to apply for the jobs. Students should be encouraged to write letters of application for the job they are interested in. This is a great way to practice letter writing skills. And don't forget you should make sure students are guided by a teacher. A committee then reviews all the applications and gives jobs to the most suitable applicants. Finally, it's important to get opinions from students about the project, to find out which jobs are successful and which don't go well.
