在句子中起名词作用的各种从句,统称为名词性从句。根据它们在句中所起的语法作用,这类从句可分为:

名词性从句的引导词
名词性从句一般由以下词引导:
连词 that, whether, if;
连接代词 what, whatever, who, whoever, whom, whomever, whose, which, whichever等;
连接副词 when, where, how, why等。
本单元我们主要学习三种名词性从句:
主语从句、表语从句和宾语从句。
“易错”引导词的区别:
一、what & that
◆what引导名词性从句时不仅起连接作用,而且在从句中 充当主语、宾语、表语等。
◆that引导名词性从句时只起连接作用,在从句中不作任何成分。如:
I don’t know what they are talking about.
(what引导宾语从句,在从句中作about的宾语)
I know (that) he is leaving for Shanghai.
(that引导宾语从句,在从句中不充当任何成分)
二、whether & if
◆whether可与or not连用,但if不能。
◆whether从句可位于句首或句尾,而if不能引导位于句首的主语从句。如:
Whether we’ll go camping tomorrow depends on the weather. (不能用if引导)
◆if不能引导表语从句、同位语从句。
◆介词后的宾语从句不能用if引导。如:
It all depends on whether they will join us for a picnic.
(不能用if引导)
名词性从句的语序
名词性从句的语序必须是陈述语序,不能用疑问语序。如:
Can you tell me where he lives
(where he lives是陈述语序)

主语从句
1. How he can learn to appreciate Chinese culture more deeply remains an important goal for him.
2. Why the school denied his application is still unknown.
3. During this period, whatever people experience is fresh and exciting to them.
在复合句中作主语的从句叫主语从句,其引导词有that, whether, who, what, which, when, where, how, why等。
1. That he is a famous singer is known to us.
(It is known to us that he is a famous singer.)
2. When he will go to America is not yet fixed.
(It is not yet fixed when he will go to America.)
有时候可用it作形式主语,而将主语从句后置。
【拓展】常见的用it作形式主语的句式有:
① It is + a(n) + n. + 从句;
It is a shame that they should be so wasteful.
② It is + adj. + 从句;
It is nice that you are so sympathetic.
③ It is + 过去分词 + 从句;
It is said that he is the winner.
④ It + 特殊动词 + 主语从句。如:
It seems / appears ... that ... 似乎……;
It happened (to sb.) that ... (某人)碰巧……;
It has turned out that ... 结果是……
表语从句是在复合句中作表语的从句。
1. 问题是我们和他已失去联系。
2. 这就是亨利怎么解决这个问题的。
3. 我的意见是马上就干。

表语从句注意事项
◆当主语是reason,且后面的表语从句表示原因时通常用that引导从句;而it, this或that作主语时,后面的表语从句可用because或why引导。如:
The reason was that he fell ill.
It was because he fell ill.
That was why he fell ill.
◆表语从句还可由as if / though, as等引导。如:
It looks as if it is going to rain.
The house looks as it did when he lived in it as a child.
宾语从句就是在复合句中作宾语的名词性从句
1. She did not know what had happened.
2. Our success depends upon how well we can cooperate with one another.
3. I am afraid (that) I’ve made a mistake.

宾语从句
宾语从句注意事项
◆表示“建议、命令、要求”等意义的动词,如suggest, demand, order, insist等,其后的宾语从句中谓语动词用should + 动词原形,should可省略。如:
She demanded that he return the books he borrowed from her.
◆如果主句的谓语是过去时,宾语从句的时态要用过去的相应时态。但若宾语从句表示的是客观真理或自然现象,其谓语仍用一般现在时。如:
The teacher told us that the earth moves round the sun.
◆当宾语从句后有宾语补足语时,通常用it作形式宾语,而将宾语从句后置。如:
Do you think it possible that the work will be finished by the end of this month
◆当主句主语是第一人称,且谓语为think, believe, suppose, expect等动词时,如果宾语从句表示否定意思,通常否定前移,即否定主句谓语。如:
I don’t think (that) I can ever forgive him.
