After months of staring in disbelief at the news about the refugee crisis (难民危机) last year, a few friends and I decided to use our interests and skills to take action. We organized a cycle trip from London to Athens to raise money for a refugee community centre in Athens. It went really well. We had 43 cyclists to take part in the activity and we managed to raise 48,000, which is enough to pay for the rent and electricity for an entire year. This spring, we're planning on doing it all again with the aim of raising the same amount of money, to continue to provide them with their rent money so as to keep such an amazing project running on.
Every part of this project, the cycling and charity, is a positive response to the refugee crisis. The cycling is an amazing and challenging experience, and makes fund-raising a positive, energetic activity rather than an ordinary trip. And all over Greece, the cooperatives (合作企业), who are running the community centre, provide not only basic needs such as free nutritious food, warm clothing and dental care, but also social needs including education and childcare. Besides, they also provide a safe space to build relationships and relax, creating perhaps the first enjoyable and happy space that refugees have been provided with, and that refugees have been able to co-create on their journey.
Yes, the situation is still disheartening and it is still mostly unsolved, but that's not where we should leave things. In a world of sad news from the media, I feel it is really important to remind ourselves that there are positive responses from us, and that the skills we use to respond can be varied and creative. I wouldn't have paired cycling and the refugee crisis together before having had this idea! Whatever your interests and skills are, put them to good use, make them work for this crisis and create positive change!
4. What can we know about the author's cycle trip last year
A. It started from Athens. B. It lasted an entire year.
C. It was supported by a community. D. It lived up to expectations.
5. Which can best describe the cooperatives
A. Kind. B. Confident. C. Unconcerned. D. Strong.
6. What does the underlined word "disheartening" mean
A. Promising. B. Different. C. Astonishing. D. Depressing.
7. What does the author call on us to do
A. Develop our interests in our daily life.
B. Take part in the cycling activity.
C. Do something for the refugee crisis.
D. Make positive personal change.

Jiuzhaigou National Park in Southwest China's Sichuan province fully reopened to visitors yesterday after the completion of post-earthquake restoration and reconstruction.
The park's name, which means "Nine Village Valley", comes from the nine Tibetan villages there. Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Leonardo da Vinci...the art world has never been short of talent. And now, a new painter is ready to join the list, although this one isn't even a human.
Next month, the auction house Christie's Prints and Multiples will make history by offering the first piece of artwork created by artificial intelligence (AI) for sale. The painting is a portrait of a man called Edmond de Belamy. The work, which features a man with a mysterious look on his face, was created by software developed by the French art group Obvious.
Nicolas Laugero Lasserre, an art collector, called the work "strange and amazing at the same time". This isn't the first example of AI-produced artwork, as AI has already been used to write poems and compose songs. However, many people doubt whether it should be called art. According to Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, art is about creating emotion. He once said that art is a means of joining people of the same feelings together.
So, if the emotion behind art is what makes it, the ability to create and use tools is what makes human beings different from other species. And as a tool itself, the AI technology used to create the portrait is the result of a lot of effort made by several designers. Together, they "fed" the AI a huge collection of paintings from the 14th to the 18th centuries, until it was able to work out how to make similar paintings of its own.
The introduction of AI art could be the beginning of a new artistic movement. However, not everyone is ready to welcome these high-tech artists just yet. "The human mind is what's behind the AI technology. And the human mind is not a cold, hard fact," said Oscar Schwartz, a researcher and writer. "Rather, it is something that's created with our opinions and something that changes over time."
12. What can we know about the AI-produced artwork
A. It is about to be sold.
B. It is created by a robot.
C. It is designed by a portrait painter.
D. It is the second artwork produced by AI.
13. Why is Leo Tolstoy mentioned
A. To present his opinion about art.
B. To stress the value of the artwork.
C. To show the definition of emotion.
D. To question the AI-produced artwork.
14. What can be inferred from Oscar Schwartz's words
A. AI art doesn't change over time.
B. AI art is similar to human artworks.
C. AI art comes from the human mind.
D. AI art is beyond humans imagination.
15. Where is the text most likely from
A. A guidebook. B. A textbook.
C. A science novel. D. A newspaper.

37. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Gold and brown leaves crunched (嘎吱作响) under Mary's boots as she made her way down the sidewalk. She could not wait to be home. The chill (寒意) from the autumn winds was bad, but it was not nearly as hard to bear as the chill she felt in her heart.
She could not forget the way she had frozen in front of the class today. Mr. Roberts had divided the class into groups to do presentations. Each person in the group would speak for five minutes in front of the class. Today was Mary's turn. Her legs had trembled all the way to the front of the classroom. Her hands shook so badly that she could not read her notes. As Mary spoke, her voice had become softer, almost to silence. Mr. Roberts kindly ended Mary's part of the presentation even though she had clearly not finished. He had also asked Mary to stay after class for a moment.
"Mary, I know you're shy, but you worked hard on this project. I'd hate to see you give up on yourself," Mr. Roberts suggested, "If I give you another chance tomorrow, do you think you can find your courage "
Mary nodded. She went as quickly as she could to her next class. She kept her head down and hoped the school day would end soon.
Arriving home, she found Mom baking in the kitchen. When Mom baked, Mary always watched and chatted with her. Mom always said it was Mary's company that made her baked goods taste so sweet.
Mom studied Mary's face as she came into the kitchen. "What's wrong, Mary " She asked.
Tears shone in Mary's brown eyes. She told the whole story. Mom was silent for a moment, her hands still busy with the cake.
"Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything, but you can't talk to your class " Mom asked, sliding the round cake pans into the oven. She set the timer and then said, "Let me show you something."
