When I was a teenager, I knew nothing about mental health. If you talked about "safe space", I'd think that you meant a bank. What's more, I didn't care about mental health. Why would I As Dad used to say, "If it isn't broken, don't fix it!"
But unfortunately my mental health did "break". I was diagnosed (诊断) as a seriously clinical anorexic (厌食症患者) at age 23. I had immediate treatment in hospital, which lasted two and a half years. People always wonder what helped me recover and the key was simple: comedy.
I'm a professional stand-up comic. Comedy began as my hobby and has progressed into a job. The word "comedy" is believed to come from the ancient Greek Komos meaning "to reveal", whose job is to reveal, explain and understand things. This was something I turned to when I was in recovery from anorexia. I'd never been able to explain what was going on inside my head. Trying to explain what's going on in your mind is like trying to explain a color to someone who's blind. So humour became a way of understanding things and then a way of explaining them.
Dr Dieter Declercq, Lecturer in Film and Media Studies at the University of Kent, believes "Humour can change our opinions in a difficult situation". However, he adds carefully that "We should avoid judgments like all humour is good for you". In his new book Satire, Comedy and Mental Health, he looks at how comedy can be used as a mental health method. He notes that, enjoyed with others, it is important for good mental health and recovery.
Stand-up comedy was important to my recovery. I know I'm not alone in that. So I want to pay that forward and show other people their mental health doesn't have to be "broken" before they can "fix it".

Singapore's tradition of eating out in places called hawker centres is now recognized by the United Nations for its cultural importance.
A hawker is a person who sells food or goods and advertises by shouting at people walking by on the street. Hawkers are an important part of Singaporean culture. Open-air eating areas where hawkers sell their goods are very popular. Famous chefs, such as Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsay have praised them.
On Wednesday, a specialized agency of the United Nations, UNESCO, added the city's "hawker culture" to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Singapore sought to have hawker culture added to the list about two years ago. Now that it has been recognized, Singapore must provide a report every six years for UNESCO. The report must show efforts the city-state has made to save and support its hawker culture. "These centres serve as 'community dining rooms', where people from diverse backgrounds gather and share the experience of dining over breakfast, lunch and dinner," UNESCO said.
In the 1970s, Singapore cleaned up its streets so the city moved street hawkers to new eating centres. These areas were part of an effort to improve the island. Now, the centres offer many different low-cost meals to local people and provide a pleasing social setting. The 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians showed its stars enjoying meals at a famous night market. Some sellers even received Michelin stars from a famous restaurant rating system for their meals costing only a few dollars.
But, now the average age of the hawker in Singapore is 60 years old. Younger Singaporeans now want to work in offices. They are less interested in working in small restaurants. The COVID-19 pandemic (流行病) health crisis also hurt sales, preventing foreign visitors and locals from eating out.
8. What do we know about hawkers from paragraph 2?
A. They are native Singaporeans.
B. They sell goods in the open air.
C. They like posting advertisements on the street.
D. They have good relationships with famous chefs.

A. To advertise the film.
B. To introduce the stars.
C. To show the popularity of hawker centres.
D. To explain a famous restaurant rating system.
10. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The difficulties faced by hawker culture.
B. The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
C. The future of hawker culture.
D. The average age of hawkers.
11. What is the best title for the text?
A. Hawkers support cultural diversity in Singapore
B. Singapore makes efforts to promote its hawker culture
C. UNESCO recognizes Singapore s low-cost food culture
D. Singapore is preparing for the protection of traditional culture

Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Leonardo da Vinci…the art world has never been short of talent. And now, a new painter is ready to join the list, although this one isn't even a human.
Next month, the auction house Christie's Prints and Multiples will make history by offering the first piece of artwork created by artificial intelligence (AI) for sale. The painting is a portrait of a man called Edmond de Belamy. The work, which features a man with a mysterious look on his face, was created by software developed by the French art group Obvious.
Nicolas Laugero Lasserre, an art collector, called the work "strange and amazing at the same time". This isn't the first example of AI-produced artwork, as AI has already been used to write poems and compose songs. However, many people doubt whether it should be called art. According to Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, art is about creating emotion. He once said that art is a means of joining people of the same feelings together.
So, if the emotion behind art is what makes it, the ability to create and use tools is what makes human beings different from other species. And as a tool itself, the AI technology used to create the portrait is the result of a lot of effort made by several designers. Together, they "fed" the AI a huge collection of paintings from the 14th to the 18th centuries, until it was able to work out how to make similar paintings of its own.
The introduction of AI art could be the beginning of a new artistic movement. However, not everyone is ready to welcome these high-tech artists just yet. "The human mind is what's behind the AI technology. And the human mind is not a cold, hard fact," said Oscar Schwartz, a researcher and writer. "Rather, it is something that's created with our opinions and something that changes over time."
12. What can we know about the AI-produced artwork
A. It is about to be sold.
B. It is created by a robot.
C. It is designed by a portrait painter.
D. It is the second artwork produced by AI.
13. Why is Leo Tolstoy mentioned
A. To present his opinion about art.
B. To stress the value of the artwork.
C. To show the definition of emotion.
D. To question the AI-produced artwork.
14. What can be inferred from Oscar Schwartz's words
A. AI art doesn't change over time.
B. AI art is similar to human artworks.
C. AI art comes from the human mind.
D. AI art is beyond humans' imagination.
15. Where is the text most likely from?
A. A guidebook. B. A textbook.

五、任务型读写(本大题共1小题,共25.0分)
37. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was seven, I found a watch while walking down the hallway of my school. The watch was expensive-looking, set with gold. As I picked it up, greed suddenly came over me, and instead of turning it in to the office like I should have, I became the owner of the watch.
When I got home from school, I found Mom cooking dinner in the kitchen. Thinking that she would be impressed, I held out my prize for her to see with a feeling of excitement and pride. Mom, however, was far from impressed. Instead, she was angry at her son for keeping the watch instead of turning it in. Mom then ordered me to go straight back to school and take the watch to someone at the office. I started to argue, but after taking a good look at the expression on Mom's face, I realized that would get me nowhere. There was nothing left for me to do but obey.
I have to admit, I was rather angry with Mom for making me give up the watch. I felt that it was justly mine since I was the one who had found it. Yes, I knew she was right, but greed had forced me to keep the watch, and now pride wouldn't allow me to admit that I had done something wrong. But time passed, and I forgot all about the lesson that I learned from the watch until fourteen years later.
While I was attending college, I had managed to get a job at a Walmart pushing carts off the parking lot. One morning, I found a checkbook (支票簿) that had been left in a shopping cart. Quickly, I took it to the customer service desk and gave it to the employee there so that the customer who had lost it could pick it up.

37.【答案】 Later, as I was outside pushing carts, a man came up to me. He told me his wife had left their checkbook in a shopping cart the night before, and he wondered if it had been found. When he told me his name, I realized that he was the owner of the checkbook I had found. I explained to him that I had found his checkbook that morning, and that he could go inside and get it at the service desk. The man was so thankful that he pulled out his wallet and offered me some cash, but I refused.
Then my thoughts went back to the day when Mom had made me return the watch. Mom wanted to make sure that her son would always be honest, and never take what didn't belong to him. Because of her, I did the right thing when I found that checkbook, and I was rewarded with a feeling of self-worth that no amount of money could buy. I have come to realize that while we are growing up, some valuable lessons are often the ones that we don't appreciate until later in life.
