阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Harper Lee was an American novelist widely known for To Kill a Mockingbird, published in 1960, which won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize and has become a classic of modern American literature. The 1962 film adaptation starring Gregory Peck won three Academy Awards.
For decades, the book was Lee's only major work, but it was hugely influential for generations of US readers. It has sold more than 10 million copies, and is one of the most widely taught novels in US schools. In 2007 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contributions to literature.
Lee wanted to live a simple life and was never comfortable with the attention the novel brought her, and she practically disappeared from public life after the novel was published. The world, however, continued waiting for a new novel from her, and on occasion she suggested that she had a story in progress.
In 2015, a book did come out. Go Set a Watchman was more of a first draft, featuring Scout, the young girl who was the main character of To Kill a Mockingbird. Go Set a Watchman tells a story of Scout as an adult. Accusations arose that the 89-year-old Lee was not able to agree to the manuscript's release, and that various parties had signed on her behalf.
Though Lee moved to New York in 1949, she spent many years guarding her privacy(隐私) in Monroeville, which served as the clear inspiration for the setting in To Kill a Mockingbird.
In 2007, Lee suffered a stroke(中风), but recovered and later settled in Monroeville permanently to care for her sister, Alice. She was said to eat breakfast every morning at the same fast-food spot, and be friendly with her neighbors. The countless Americans knew her only through her works, and they will undoubtedly miss her.

My first book had been rejected by every major American publisher. My first agent wasn't communicating. My dream of a life as a successful author was in tatters.
"It isn't going to happen," I said to my friend. "And I have to accept it."
"If you lose faith in your product, no one else will have faith in it," she told me.
I knew she was right. But, how could I believe in myself when I hit a wall at every turn I knew I had a good product. The book featured interviews with world-famous people who had learned how to succeed and lead the hard way. It had information that could help other people. As a consumer, I would have loved that book because it had the great wisdom I so desperately needed. And, their stories made for good reading. I had a good book. What I didn't have was a publisher. I had to find a way to get that book on the shelves and sold. But, how
The hardest challenge was forcing myself to do battle again. I had to find the strength to believe in myself when it seemed like no one else believed in me. When I hit a wall, I usually need to get more information to figure out what is going wrong. So, I did some research and found out that my initial version of the book—where all the interview subjects got their own chapters一wasn't marketable to big publishers because that format(设计) would not sell tons of books. What I had to do was recognize it and restructure the book.
I needed an agent. There were thousands of agents. Surely one of them was right for me. So, I started sending out query(询问) letters. Within a week, I had a dozen agents who wanted the book. I chose the one who I thought would believe in me and my dream. She did get me my choices of publishers.
Hard Won Wisdom wound up being a best-selling book. But, it almost never was.

Vincent van Gogh
Born in the Netherlands in 1853, Van Gogh led a simple life in a small town until the age of 16. He then left school and joined a company of art business in the larger city. During the next seven years, Van Gogh bought and sold paintings in the Netherlands, London, and Paris. He eventually realized that dealing with others' artwork was not his dream. He soon discovered that his dream was to become an artist himself.
He spent much of his time in learning the basic skills of drawing. He believed that to become a great painter, one must first master the ability to draw. It was only after he was comfortable in this area that he began to use oil paints. That is when Van Gogh developed a style of color that made him one of the most respected artists of all time.
Van Gogh's paintings are amazing representations(表现) of his view of the world. He used his brush and oils to make layers that built the painting until it was almost three-dimensional(三维的).This quality makes people want to reach out and touch the painting.
Perhaps one of the most memorable examples of Van Gogh's use of color and brush style is his painting The Starry Night. The sky swirls across the canvas(画布),while the stars glow with unearthly brightness. Each brushstroke creates the movement and lights. Under the sky rests a village painted with smaller strokes and finer detail, giving the impression of peace. A large tree in the foreground suggests that the view is enjoyed from the top of a hill, which offers a glimpse of the majesty(庄严) of the night sky. The Starry Night displays the gift of Van Gogh's ability to create a powerful image with the simple brush and oils.
Van Gogh spent only the last ten years of his life painting. Yet Van Gogh today is considered one of the greatest artists of all time. His influence is strong; many painters mimic his style and use of color. His artwork can be found in museums all over the world.
1.How did Van Gogh learn how to paint
A.By reading books about art. B.By observing the world around him.
C.By studying the works of great artists. D.By equipping himself with basic skills.
2.Why does the author refer to The Starry Night
A.To praise Van Gogh's ability. B.To present Van Gogh's respect for nature.
C.To show Van Gogh's style of painting. D.To express Van Gogh's feelings about his artwork.
3.What does the author admire most about Van Gogh's paintings
A.The image. B.The light. C.The theme. D.The brushwork
4.What does the underlined word "mimic" in the last paragraph mean
A.Copy. B.Teach. C.Change. D.Create.

The works of Shakespeare and Wordsworth are "rocket boosters" to the brain and better therapy than self-help books, researchers will say this week.
Scientists, psychologists and English academics at the University of Liverpool have found that reading the works of the Bard and other classical writers has a beneficial effect on the mind, catches readers' attention and causes moments of self-reflection.
Using scanners, they monitored the brain activity of volunteers as they read works by William Shakespeare, William Wordsworth, T. S. Eliot and others.
They then " translated" the texts into more "straightforward ", modem language and again monitored the readers' brains as they read the words.
Scans showed that the more " challenging" prose and poetry set off far more electrical activity in the brain than the more pedestrian versions.
Scientists were able to study the brain activity as it responded to each word and record how it "lit up" as the readers encountered unusual words, surprising phrases or difficult sentence structures.
This " lighting up" of the mind lasts longer than the initial electrical spark, shifting the brain to a higher gear, and encouraging further reading.
The research also found that reading poetry, in particular, increases activity in the right hemisphere (半球) of the brain, an area concerned with "autobiographical memory" , helping the readers to reflect on and reappraise (重新评估) their own experiences in light of what they have read. The academics said this meant the classics were more useful than self-help books.
Philip Davis, an English professor who has worked on the study with the university's magnetic resonance centre, will tell a conference this week :Serious literature acts like a rocket booster to the brain.
The research shows the power of literature to shift mental pathways, to create new thoughts, shapes and connections in the young and the elderly alike.
1.How do classics such as the works of Shakespeareand Wordsworth benefit the readers
A.They set off far less electrical activity in the brain.
B.They light up the mind shorter than the initial electrical spark.
C.They shift physical pathways in the young and the elderly.
D.They draw readers' attention and help make self-examination.
2.How did the scientists and experts carry out theexperiment
A.By scanning the readers' brain activity. B.By reading works of different writers.
C.By lighting up the activity of the brains. D.By investigating the habits of the readers.
3.What can we conclude according to the research
A.Self-help books are more valuable than classics.
B.Serious literature lights up the mind shorter than ordinary versions.
C.The right hemisphere of the brain is related to autobiographical memory.
D.literature has a beneficial effect only on the mind of the young.
4.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage
A.Ordinary Versions Create New Thoughts B.Modern Language Increases the Brain Activity
C.Classics Help Improve the Brain Activity D.Self-help Books, Rocket Boosters

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eighty-five percent of the jobs that today's students will do in 2030 don't exist yet, Institute for the Future has predicted. That might seem like a high number to reach in only 10 years. But think about the non-mainstream careers that did not exist just a handful of years ago : social media manager, app developer and cloud computing engineer, etc. What role should colleges and universities play in preparing students for a workplace that is constantly changing Educational institutions are trying to answer that question. "We hope they will not only be prepared for whatever the job market looks like in 10, 20 or 50 years but be the ones shaping it," said Jenn Stringer, professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Here are some of the approaches they're taking.
Some experts argue that the four-year learning model needs to be rethought in a big way. They say education can no longer be seen as something that stops when a person graduates from college. If students could take a year or two off school, get a job, and then return to school later, the education system would offer true life-long learning and better adapt to changing technology.
Fewer employers are willing to train people on the job than the employers 50 years ago, largely as part of an effort to cut costs. To fill the job skills gap, some courses are offered as an add-on to a student's main degree. For example, the courses may include data analysis, web design and digital marketing. The goal is to offer students, a degree aside, some advantages when they seek jobs or promotions in the future.
Some institutions are trying to imitate the workplace within the traditional classroom. Several colleges have partnered with private companies, such as the software company Adobe, to integrate their products into the classroom. Professors at schools who partner with the company are encouraged to use the product for assignments. The idea is that students learn how to create a project that can be used in the real world and the " soft skills" such as teamwork and creativity.
