Unit 6 Pets
听说训练
牛津深圳版八年级下册
一、模仿朗读
Keeping pet dogs is a good idea. There are lots of reasons for this. First, dogs are really cute. It’s nice to hold them in our arms, and it’s wonderful to see them grow up. Second, we can learn responsibility from keeping dogs. We have to feed them, train them and play with them. According to my mum, this helps us become more responsible people. Young people can learn how to care for others by keeping dogs. A dog will love you faithfully and bring you lots of happiness for many years.

M: Hi, Nancy. The cat is so cute. I didn’t know you have a pet cat.
W: It’s not mine, David. It’s my cousin Linda’s. She went to Beijing with her family last week. She asked me to take care of it before she returns.
M: Oh, I see. Do you keep a pet yourself

W: What’s going on, Jimmy
M: My parents finally agree that I can keep a pet. But I don’t know
if I should buy a cat or a dog. Can you help me decide
W: Of course, you ask the right person. I have two dogs, a cat and a
rabbit. I think you can have a cat instead of a dog.
M: Why do you say so
W: Because dogs need a lot of time and care. Cats require less
work, and they are quieter and cleaner than dogs.

M: He has been vomiting and coughing, and he has no appetite.
W: Oh! My dog had the same symptoms last year. You’d better take him to the vet soon.
M: You are right. Do you know any pet hospital
W: Yeah. There’s one near my house. Maybe you can take him to the vet after school. I can go with you.
M: That’s very kind of you. I’ll make an appointment soon.
W: I will meet you at the school gate at 5:30 p.m. after school, OK
M: What about a quarter later at my home I have to go back home and take my dog.
W: OK, see you.

Keeping a pet is increasingly popular. Last month, a local school did a survey about the popularity of keeping pets at home. 200 students took part in the survey. The results show that 65% of the students questioned have a pet. Of these, 30% have a dog, 25% have a cat and 10% have other kinds of pet, such as birds, rabbits, fish and so on. Among 35% of those students who don’t have a pet, 12% of them cannot keep one because their parents are against it; 13% don’t have enough space, and the remaining 10% don’t like pets. In general, those who have pets like pets and think they are good company or that they may make them feel better. The Benefits of Keeping a Pet
My name is Emma. I’m a pet lover. I believe there are many health benefits of keeping a pet. For example, it has been proven that pets have a positive effect on our mood. My grandmother is a real example. She used to be really sad when my grandfather suddenly passed away three years ago. In order to help her get through sadness, I bought her a pet dog. Taking care of the dog gives her a new purpose in her life. Besides, the dog helps her forget her depression and loneliness. With the faithful company of the dog, my grandmother becomes much happier. She’s now 85 years old and she’s very healthy. I think it’s the best decision I have ever made to buy her a pet dog.
