Dr. Seuss and The Cat in the Hat
The Cat in the Hat is a rhymed children’s book written by the American writer Dr. Seuss. The main character in the book is a naughty talking cat, wearing a tall, red and white-stripped hat. The cat appears in six of Dr. Seuss’s children’s books. The Cat in the Hat has become popular around the world because it is an entertaining and fun book for young readers.
Dr. Seuss is actually the pen name of Theodore Seuss Geisel. He was born on March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts and died on September 24, 1991, at the age of 87, in La Jolla, California. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1925, he studied at Lincoln College, Oxford with the plan to get a doctor degree (博士学位). However, he returned to the United States without getting it. After that, Theodore Geisel used the title “Dr.” because his father always hoped that his son would get a doctor degree.
Theodore Seuss Geisel was not only a writer but also a colorful cartoonist. Before World War II, he wrote children’s books. After World War II started, he drew cartoons. After the war, he returned to writing children’s books. In 1954, he learned that children were not interested in reading because their books were boring. To encourage reading, he wrote The Cat in the Hat using only 236 basic words. After its success, he went on to write many other children’s books, including such all-time favorites as Horton Hatches the Egg, Green Eggs and Ham, Dr. Seuss’s ABC, I Can Read with My Eyes Shut! and Hop on Pop.

Dr. Seuss and The Cat in the Hat
The Cat in the Hat is a rhymed children’s book written by the American writer Dr. Seuss. The main character in the book is a naughty talking cat, wearing a tall, red and white-stripped hat. The cat appears in six of Dr. Seuss’s children’s books. The Cat in the Hat has become popular around the world because it is an entertaining and fun book for young readers.
Dr. Seuss is actually the pen name of Theodore Seuss Geisel. He was born on March 2, 1904, in Springfield, Massachusetts and died on September 24, 1991, at the age of 87, in La Jolla, California. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1925, he studied at Lincoln College, Oxford with the plan to get a doctor degree (博士学位). However, he returned to the United States without getting it. After that, Theodore Geisel used the title “Dr.” because his father always hoped that his son would get a doctor degree.
Theodore Seuss Geisel was not only a writer but also a colorful cartoonist. Before World War II, he wrote children’s books. After World War II started, he drew cartoons. After the war, he returned to writing children’s books. In 1954, he learned that children were not interested in reading because their books were boring. To encourage reading, he wrote The Cat in the Hat using only 236 basic words. After its success, he went on to write many other children’s books, including such all-time favorites as Horton Hatches the Egg, Green Eggs and Ham, Dr. Seuss’s ABC, I Can Read with My Eyes Shut! and Hop on Pop.
Theodore Seuss Geisel’s books are accepted as classic books. His many interesting “Dr. Seuss” books continue to attract and entertain readers around the world.
