世界特殊奥运会是一个为全世界智力缺陷儿童及成年人提供体育训练和比赛的国际体育运动民间团体。成立于1968年,其主要任务是帮助和推动世界各国开展智障人体育运动。上海举办了2007年第12届世界夏季特奥会。中国是亚洲第一个举办该项赛事的国家。
