Edun did not want to go on a hike. She especially did not want to go on a long hike in the mountains that led to a tiny cabin (小木屋) with no electricity and no running water. She wanted to stay home reading a book instead while wrapped in a warm blanket.
“Ready ” Mom asked cheerfully after breakfast. Edun looked out the window and only saw rain, lots of it. “We should go another day,” Edun suggested. “Maybe a hundred years from now.” She worried she would get tired on the hike. She worried about getting bored at the dark cabin. Mom said it was time to stop worrying and get into the car.
Edun’s brother, Will, was waiting in the garage, who wore a camera around his neck. Will was four years older than Edun and had climbed many more mountains. He’d started hiking when he was two and loved it.
Because it was raining, Edun had to wear her rain pants, her rain hat, her rain jacket, and her waterproof boots. Her jacket had a rough material on the inside. She didn’t like how it felt against her skin.
After about half an hour’s drive, they parked at a trailhead (登山口). The rain had stopped but the ground was still dripping wet. “We’ll be there by afternoon!” Mom promised. The afternoon sounded far away.
Will identified a bird sitting on a nearby branch—“Fox sparrow!”—then he raced down the trail and was soon out of sight.
Edun rested under a pine tree. “You can’t force me to walk,” Edun said. “You’re right,” said her mom smilingly, standing under the tree, too, “But you will never know what may lie ahead and amaze us.”

On a late afternoon, Brandon finished feeding his cows on the farm and decided to go back with his two sons, Louie, 6, and Everett, 3. As they headed for the house, the two boys ran ahead of their father. Suddenly Brandon was aware he forgot to close the door of the barn (牲口棚). He told the boys to wait for him at the gate and returned to lock it. When he was at the gate minutes later, he saw only his youngest son.
“ Where’s Louie ” he shouted.
“He fell in the hole!” Everett said.
Brandon quickly realized what had happened. Noooo, he thought. Louie can barely swim! He ran to the well and heard Louie splashing, trying not to . Instinctively, he jumped in.
Somehow Brandon managed to grab on to a pipe that ran down the side of the well, which slowed his fall and kept him from crushing (挤压) his son.
Finally, Brandon hit the freezing water at the bottom of the well. He popped his head out of the water and grabbed Louie, who was panicking and trying to stay afloat in water that was too deep for either of them to stand. Knowing they could tread (踩水) for only so long, Brandon lifted his son onto his chest as he packed his own back against the narrow walls for support.
“All right, Dad, you can pull us out now,” Louie said.
If only it were that easy. There was no way he could climb out. The pipe that he’d grabbed during his fall was too slippery to be of any use. There was only one way out.
Looking up to see Everett peering down at them from the top of the well, Brandon shouted, “Everett, you’re going to have to be a big boy and save us. Run to the road and stand by the mailbox until someone stops. Tell them we need help. ”
Everett did as he was told. He stood alone by the side of the road, waving to stop someone.

Mr. Watson’s store was widely known throughout the neighborhood. It sold many different things. Every day after school, Jess came to the store and he loved to look at the pipes (烟斗). One pipe especially caught his eye. He imagined that some day he would be a grown man and could smoke a pipe, just like this one. He did not remember his father, but he knew his dad smoked a pipe.
Jess reached out and touched the pipe. He kept thinking that when he was old enough, he would go to work and his mother could stay home. He would not have to wait three hours after school until she came home from her job. Oh, why He wondered, did it take so long to grow up and take his father’s place.
He looked around the store and put the bowl of the pipe in his hand. He just wanted to get the feel of it — nothing more. He was lost in his dream, wishing he could be like his father.
Suddenly he was shocked out of his dream. He heard footsteps behind him. He turned around quickly. It was Mr. Watson, the friendly store owner. Jess was unable to move.
“Hello, Jess,” Mr. Watson said, and kept on walking. Jess struggled to answer but could not get his voice up. He swallowed and smiled weakly as Mr. Watson walked away. Jess’s thoughts became unclear. Was he suspicious
Suddenly the store seemed extremely warm. Jess watched his feet begin to move and take him out of the store. He felt the cool air outside and it was good, yet, he felt an emptiness inside himself. Like one walking in his sleep, he moved toward the ground. He looked around and saw the empty swings. He slipped into one and leaned against its chain. The cold metal links hurt his side.
Sitting on the swing, he gave the ground a push with one foot. A sharp pain caught him in the stomach. He knew it was the pipe he felt. He had walked out of the store with it.

22.(2022·浙江杭州·统考二模)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
My family moved in a small house in Brighton, Colorado on my seventh birthday. My first memory is our neighbor Bill, an old man, handing me strawberries from his garden through a hole in the chain-link fence. “We need to make the hole bigger,” he said jokingly. Later I knew that he lived alone.
Bill spent much time working in the garden, and I was always talking lo him from our yard. I was a chatterbox. I think what drew me to Bill is that he never got tired of listening to me. I also think Bill saw a lot of himself in me — we were both lonely and anxious — and that may be why he always took the time to listen to me. It was a wonderful connection.
There weren’t any kids of my age in the neighborhood, and my parents were very busy, so I mostly played in the yard with my dog. I had a lot of imaginary friends — a whole family, actually, with a wife, children, a best friend…no joke. Weird kid.
One day, my parents asked Bill whether he’d watch me while they were away on business. This worked for everyone, so it became a somewhat monthly occurrence. Bill had a spare room in his house, which became “my” room.
Bill promised to teach me to drive the lawn tractor someday and I was always looking forward to it. In winter, Bill would attach a snowplow to the front of the lawn tractor. I seriously told him that I would invent a better snowplow when I grew up. “Sure you will. You’ll get a patent certificate. It takes a certificate to prove an important thing,” Bill said with a smile.
One snowy morning, an idea suddenly hit me. My parents were watching TV when I spit it out, “What if I adopted Bill as my grandpa ” My parents said I could go over and ask him.

Wrapping paper flew everywhere as Cali opened her gift. The box had a picture of a pretty girl. She was wearing white ice skates and turning around a frozen pond.
Cali looked up at her aunt and uncle with her big brown eyes. “Figure’ skates Wow! How nice of you! But,” the little girl hesitated, “... but I don’t know how to skate.” She looked embarrassed.
“Don’t worry,” said Aunt Lisa. “That’s the fun part-learning how to do it!”
“That’s right,” said Uncle George. “We will take you to the ice rink(冰场)and all go skating together.”
“I don’t know...,” said Cali. She wasn’t too sure she was going to be able to do it. Sometimes she had a hard time learning new things. She looked again at the happy girl on the box. It did look like fun. Cali imagined herself moving and turning on the ice like a real figure skater. “Okay,” she agreed. “Let’s do it!”
The next day Cali went to the skating rink with her aunt and uncle. Her eyes twinkled and her face lit up with excitement as she looked at the other skaters around her. She sat down on the bench and slipped her feet into the skates. Holding the strings in her fingers, she could not figure out how to tie them up. “I don’t know how to do it,” she said. She felt sad that this was another thing she couldn’t do.
“Let me show you.” Her aunt bent down on one knee, explaining how to put the strings around the small hooks(钩子). Then she tied them into a tight bow. “Now, you do the other skate yourself. I’ll help you if you need it.” Cali bent over the skate and did what her aunt had showed her. Her tongue stuck out of the side of her mouth as she paid attention. After a few tries, she worked out how to cross the strings around the hooks. Her aunt helped make sure the strings were nice and tight. “You did it!” smiled her aunt, patting Cali on the back.

He woke suddenly and completely. It was 4 a. m. at Christmas, the hour when his father had always called him to get up and help with milking the cow. Strange how the habit of his youth was with him still, even his father had been dead for 40 years. The magic of Christmas for him was a long childhood past, and he was wondering why he felt so awake when his mind went back to his teenage years.
He was 15 years old then and still on his father’s farm. A few days before Christmas, he heard what his father was saying to his mother.
“Mary, I hate to call Rob in the mornings. He’s growing so fast, and he needs his sleep. I could manage alone.”
“Well, you can’t, Adam.” His mother replied. “Besides, he isn’t a child anymore. It’s time to take his turn.”
When he heard these words, something in him woke: his father loved him so much as had never been thought before. Now that he knew so, there would be no more lying in the mornings waiting to be called. He got up and pulled on his clothes.
On the night before Christmas, he lay thinking about the next day. They were poor, and most of the excitement was in the turkey raised themselves and the mince pies made by his mother. His sisters made presents, and he always saved and bought something for parents.
However, he wished, that Christmas he was fifteen, and that he had a better present for his father than before. He looked out of the window and saw Dad working in a stable. Then a thought struck him: why should he not give his father a special gift out there in the stable He could get up earlier, quietly go into it and get all the milking done. Then when his father went in to start the milking, he’d see it all done.

Steve was the most amazing person in all of Minneapolis, and he was my cousin. By the age of 19, Steve was a star baseball player at the University of Minnesota. I wanted to be exactly like him. So when Steve asked me to go with him on a spring fishing trip in northern Minnesota, I was excited!
After planning the trip, we gathered clothes and supplies, and began our great adventure. We reached the Superior National Forest in northern Minnesota by early evening. On our way to the campsite, Steve pointed to a small house faraway in one of the mountains, saying that it was the ranger station where the forester worked.
Finally, after a long walk, we reached the campsite and set up the camp as the sun was setting. Steve knew all the tricks of an experienced wilderness camper. After we gathered enough wood from the forest, he started the campfire using only stone and steel—no matches. For supper we feasted on freeze-dried beef, wild rice and pea soup. I ate greedily after all that work.
Tired enough, we climbed into our sleeping bags early and talked about our plans for fishing the next day. We were still talking quietly when a sudden north wind picked up; the temperature dropped and it began to snow. Steve found a way to increase the temperature inside the tent. He dragged a log from the forest to the opposite side of the campfire. Then he wrapped aluminum foil around the log. The heat from the fire reflected off the foil and into the tent. Soon images of lake fish were filling my dreams.
The snow had stopped, but sometime later a powerful wind must have kicked up the flames of our dying fire. I was abruptly awakened by Steve. Our tent was on fire. Frightened, I ran out of the tent immediately. The tent collapsed with Steve inside.

Last Christmas my elder sister Jane got a unicycle(独轮脚踏车)she had requested. I thought it kind of strange, wondering why she would want something like that. She did ride and practice for a while, but eventually stopped.
Curious, I tried it, finding it very hard and thinking it impossible for a weak girl like me to learn. Since the dining room of our old house had low beams(屋梁),I used them like monkey bars to practice riding, which helped a lot. Because I thought it was really fun, I practiced every spare moment I had, teaching myself to go forwards, backwards and to turn. Practicing was something I loved to do in my spare time, but it did get discouraging when I fell. After months of practicing, I finally made it.
One morning, our teacher Maria excitedly announced that a school talent show was to be held to raise money for charity. She encouraged my classmates to sign up for it. I'm not always best in front of a crowd, which was why I was very nervous when I meant to put on my perfdrmance by doing a hula hoop(圈)and riding a unicycle on stage. But I overcame my fear and entered myself for the talent show, for which I practiced a lot in case I should mess up.
My routine(整套动作)was to do the hula hoop from my neck, down to my stomach, then to my knees. After that, I was to ride my unicycle forwards and backwards on stage. Lastly I would do the hula hoop while riding the unicycle. I was to do all this accompanied by my carefully selected music. I wondered what people from my seventh grade would think of my performance. With my friends inspiring me, I built up my confidence. On the night of the show, many people found out there was going to be a unicycle performance, so more came, even the headmaster.

When a tornado(龙卷风) touched down in a small town nearby, many families were left completed ruined. Afterward all the local newspapers carried many human-interest stories featuring some of the families who suffered the hardest.
One Sunday, a particular picture especially touched me. A young woman stood in front of an entirely shattered(破碎的) mobile home, a depressed expression on her face. A young boy, seven or eight years old, stood at her side, eyes downward. Clutching(紧握) at her skirt was a tiny girl who stared into the camera, eyes wide with confusion and fear.
The article that went with the picture gave the clothing sizes of each family member. With growing interest, I noticed that their sizes closely matched ours. This would be a good opportunity to teach my children to help those less fortunate than themselves. I stuck the picture of the young family on our refrigerator, explaining their difficulty to my seven-year-old twins, Brad and Brett, and to three-year-old Meghan.
“These poor people now have nothing,” I said. “We’ll share what we have with them. I brought three large boxes down from the room upstairs and placed them on the living room floor. Meghan watched seriously, as the boys and I filled one of the boxes with canned goods and foods.
While I sorted through our clothes, I encouraged the boys to go through their toys and donate some of their less favorite things. Meghan watched quietly as the boys piled up old toys and games.
Meghan walked up with Lucy, her worn, much-loved rag doll hugged tightly to her chest. She came to the box that held the toys, pressed her round little face into Lucy's flat, painted-on-face, gave her a final kiss, then laid her gently on top of the other toys.
“Oh, Honey,” I said.” You don’t have to give Lucy. You love her so much.”
Meghan nodded seriously, eyes filled with held-back tears. "Lucy makes me happy, Mommy. Maybe she’ll make that other little girl happy, too.”

It was on September 5th, my birthday, that we left Cambridge and moved away. We went to the seaside,to our holiday house, which was now to be our permanent home.
I remember the day was cold and grey, in falling slowly but constantly. My father drove in silence. No one spoke and all we could hear was the sound of the tyres on the wet road When we got to the small house near the sea,my mother quietly started to unpack the few things we had brought with us. Carol,Julie and I went down to the beach. We said we were going to look for crabs in the rockpools but actually,we just wanted to get away from our father and his cold silence.
We climbed along the rocks by the side of the beach. Julie and Carol became interested in some shells they found in one of the pools. I wandered away, lost in my private thoughts. It was my birthday, but no one had said “Happy Birthday” to me. I had not received any cards or presents.
I walked down to the seashore, where the waves were breaking lazily against the muddy sand. Suddenly, I saw something green sticking out of the water. I looked at it more carefully. The green thing moved closer and closer to the shore, and when it was almost near enough for me to touch, I realized what it was.
It was a bottle. I went over and picked it up, all the time looking at it. It seemed old, and had no label on it. Then 1 realized there was something inside. Slowly, I pulled out the wet cork from the top of the bottle. Inside was a piece of paper. With great care, 1 took out the folded paper and opened it.
Written on it were these words:
“To whomsoever finds this bottle, I promise you a new friend. ”

Theo stood at the microphone. Silence settled over the hall. "Your word is onomatopoeia," said Mr Ramirez, the announcer. I got this! Theo thought. Spelling was sort of his superpower. He wasn't a math or science guy, but he had a gift for spelling.
Theo's brain fast-forwarded to the spelling bees ahead: first the county championship, then the state championship, and finally the national spelling bee. "Your answer, please, Theo " He glanced back at Alexa, another fourth-grader, sitting on the edge of her chair. She wanted another chance at winning. If he missed his word, she'd be back in the game. But that wasn't going to happen. Theo got the right spelling.
Theo's sister, Deandra, who had also competed but missed her word, applauded with the rest of the crowd. Mr. Ramirez presented the trophy(奖杯)to Theo. He lifted both arms into the air. "I'm the alpha-best." Then he raced toward his sister. "Ha!" Theo said, making the trophy dance in front of Deandra's nose.
She rolled her eyes. "You're a terrible winner."
"What's wrong with celebrating my victory "
Deandra crossed her arms and made a sour face. "You know, it wasn't cool the way you ignored Alexa onstage. She tried to shake your hand."
Theo shrugged. "I didn't notice. Anyway, county bee, here I come!"
"You might want to crack open the dictionary before counties. In two weeks, you'll be facing the best of the best."
"And they'll be up against me,the alpha-beast."
Deandra shook her head. "Well, good luck. I think you're going to need it."
Two weeks passed in a blink. At the county bee, students from different schools gathered around onstage, some looking more worried than others. Finally, it was time for the contestants(选手)to take their seats.
After six rounds, the group of more than 100 students decreased to just seven. This was no regular spelling bee. Theo had barely made it through the last round with a lucky guess on conscience. And if he'd had to spell aerospace or conical, he'd be out already. His sister's advice suddenly made sense.

Alan and the other campers sat around the fire chewing meat chops. It would be Alan’s first night in a tent, and he was excited but a little nervous.
As they ate, the conservation officer spoke. “Much of the wildlife in this area comes out only at night. So after supper, let’s start a night watch. Volunteers will take turns to stay down here by the fire, away from the tents. Those who take part will get a chance to see a world that many of you never knew existed.”
Alan’s stomach tightened.
“Isn’t it dangerous ” someone asked.
“No, it’s quite safe,” the officer said.
“There are no dangerous animals this close to Cape Town. Any volunteers ”
A tough-looking kid with red hair muttered something about needing a good night’s sleep.
Another boy spoke up. “I’ll take a shift.” The kid who’d sat next to Alan on the bus volunteered. Alan sat tight. Then one of the girls raised her hand with a giggle.
Alan frowned. If a girl could do it, he could, too. He volunteered.
A few more kids raised their hands, and then the officer explained, “This is how it works. When the rest of you go to bed, the first watcher takes his or her place by the fire. The duty of watcher is to keep the fire going gently. After thirty minutes, he or she wakes the next person.”
Alan heard his voice asking, “Are you sure it’s absolutely safe ”
The officer looked at him. “Well, nothing is absolutely safe. Crossing the road isn’t absolutely safe. But the danger is minimal. We wouldn’t have taken you here otherwise. Do you still want to volunteer ”
Alan nodded but felt uneasy. Sleeping in a tent with other campers had sounded OK, but the idea of being alone in the night made him tremble.
Earlier that day, the officer had challenged the campers to spot animal tracks along the river. That was fun. But being alone in the dark was not. Alan’s flashlight was already fading to a dim glow because he had used it too often. Looking around, Alan thought he saw a large bird swooping(俯冲) and wondered if it was an owl. He had seen small paw prints in the sand by the river. Was the owl hunting for the creature that had made them

My name is Chelsea Chowderhead. A chowder is a thick soup. My father says that our early ancestors(祖先)may have invented chowder. For me,the last name teasing(戏弄)began as soon as I started school. So when my family moved to South Carolina, I decided that it was my chance for a fresh start. I asked my dad if I could change my name.
''But the Chowderhead name has a long and rich history--,'' Dad started.
''I know, I know. ''
''Why do you want to change it '' he asked.
I didn't want to hurt his feelings, but I didn't want to go through another school year as a Chowderhead, either. ''I get teased all the time. ''
''I know it's not always easy being a chowderhead (傻瓜), '' Dad said. ''But you shouldn't change who you are. Let people get to know you first and your name later. ''
''How can people get to know me before they know my name ” I asked.
He said, “Ask good questions, ''
I looked at him blankly (茫然地). He went on, ''When you meet someone new, ask them a good question. Once people start talking about themselves, they don't judge you. They're just happy that someone is interested in what they have to say. ''
Two days later I headed to my school for the first day of class. As soon as I got to my classroom, a girl named Claire introduced herself. She was very nice and we soon became friends.
By lunch, I'd talked to lots of people and was getting the hang (窍门)of finding the right question. But there were two kids, twin brothers, who didn't seem to talk to anyone but each other. When they looked at me, I felt as if they already knew that I was a Chowderhead. Still, my dad's advice had worked out well, so I decided to give it one more try.

Old Man Donovan was a mean man who hated children. He threw rocks at them and even shot at them with a shotgun. At least that's what we had heard.
His small farm bordered our neighborhood where my younger sister, Leigh Ann, and I lived when we were growing up. His farm was long, narrow, and quaint. It held two treasures. One was his beautiful fruit.
There were many varieties of fruit: pears, apples, and lots more I just can't think of. The fruit naturally drew the children to his land. It made them into thieves. But my sister and I didn't dare to take his fruit because of the horrible rumors we had heard about Old Man Donovan.
One summer day, we were playing in a nearby field. It was time to head back home. My sister and I were feeling very daring that day. There was a short cut to our house that went through the Donovan farm. We thought he wouldn't be able to see us run across his property around the luscious(可口味美的) fruit trees. We were almost through the farm when we heard, “Hey,girls!” in a gruff (粗哑的), low voice. We stopped dead in our tracks! There we were, face to face with Old Man Donovan. Our knees were shaking. We had visions of rocks pounding our bodies and bullets piercing our hearts.
“Come here,” he said, reaching up to one of his apple trees. Still shaking, we went over to him. He held out several ripe, juicy, red apples. “Take these home,” he commanded .We took the apples with surprised hearts and ran all the way home. Of course, Leigh Annand I ate the apples.
As time went on, we often went through Old Man Donovan’s farm, and he kept on giving us more luscious fruit. One day, we stopped by to see him when he was on his front porch (门廊). We talked to him for hours. While he was talking, we realized that we had found the other hidden treasure: the sweet, kind heart hidden behind his gruff voice. Soon, he was one of our favorite people to talk to.

It was a Sunday morning. Betty woke up earlier than usual. She couldn’t sleep any longer because she was so excited that her uncle Mark was taking her to the beach. She had always loved going surfing with her uncle. She put her swimming suit on and took her bag quickly that she had prepared the night got before and went outside to wait. She jumped up and down with joy when she saw her uncle’s red jeep turn the corner down her street.
Uncle Mark got out of the car and helped Betty get in. “Are you ready ” he asked. “Yes!” replied Betty. Uncle Mark could see the excitement in her face. Suddenly he said seriously, “Well, before we go, I have to let you know that a shark appeared recently where we're going to surf today.” Scared and shocked, Betty couldn’t say a word. “Haha! I'm kidding you,” Uncle Mark burst out laughing. Betty laughed too. She knew Uncle Mark liked teasing others. “Let’s go and have some breakfast, I know just the place,” Uncle Mark said. They went to a breakfast shop and ate some tacos (炸玉米饼).
After breakfast the two of them went down to Pacific Beach and got their surfboards ready. “First you have to wax(打蜡)the bottom, explained Uncle Mark. “I know. I’ve watched you do it before!" Betty said as she took the wax from Uncle Mark's hand. It took about 15 minutes to wax the bottom of their boards. When Betty finished, Uncle Mark looked it over to make sure it was done well. “Nice job, Betty, you wax your board like a true surfer.”
Finally, they were ready to get into the water. They carried their boards down to the beach and went out into the water. Betty was overly excited and tried to rush to catch a wave. Predictably, she crashed and had to start over. Next was her uncle's turn. He stood up on his first try and smoothly surfed the wave before jumping into the water. Betty cheered for her uncle's perfect run.

A little boy selling magazines for school walked up to a house that people rarely visited. The house was very old and shabby and the owner hardly ever came out. When he did come out, he would not say hello to his neighbors or passers-by but simply just glare at them.
The boy knocked on the door and waited, sweating from fear of the old man. The boy’s parents told him to stay away from the house, and a lot of the other neighborhood children were told the same thing from their parents.
As he was ready to walk away, the door slowly opened. “What do you want ” the old man said impatiently. The little boy was very afraid but he had a quota(份额) to meet for school with selling the magazines. So he got up the courage and said, “Uh, sir, I am selling these magazines and uh, I was wondering if you would like to buy one from me.”
The old man just stared at the boy without a word. The boy could see inside the old man’s house and saw that he had dog figurines(小雕像) on the fireplace mantle. “Do you collect dogs ” The little boy asked. “Yes, I have many collections in my house. They are my family here and they are all I have.” The boy then felt sorry for the man, as it seemed that he was a very lonely soul.
“Well, I do have a magazine here for collectors. It is perfect for you. I also have one about dogs since you like dogs so much.” The old man was ready to close the door on the boy and said, “No, boy. I don’t need any magazines of any kind, now goodbye.”
The little boy was sad that he was not going to make his quota with the sale. He was also sad for the old man being so alone in the house that he owned. The boy went home and then had an idea. He had a little dog figurine that he got some years ago from an aunt. The figurine did not mean nearly as much to him since he had a real live dog and a large family.

Thirteen-year-old Amy lost her mother in a car accident. She had no choice but moved from New Zealand to Canada to live with her father Thomas.
Thomas was an inventor, living on a farm. He brought Amy back to his messy house, which had not been cleaned up for years. Most of the rooms in the house were used for storing his gliders (滑翔机) and their parts.
One day, Amy happened to see Thomas testing his glider but he soon crashed in the surrounding field. Scared and unsure if her father was all right, Amy heard his father's shout of triumph. She couldn't understand her father strange behavior so that she barely talked with him. "My new life is absolutely miserable!" Amy thought with tears in her eyes.
It was not until Amy found the eggs that her life changed. While exploring the area around the farm, Amy discovered an abandoned nest of 16 goose eggs under a fallen tree. She gathered all of the eggs and brought them back to the bam where she took a heating lamp to provide light and warmth for them.
One afternoon after school, Amy was thrilled to discover all of the eggs had hatched. The baby geese and Amy looked at each other and a bond immediately formed. The geese assumed Amy, the first thing they saw, was their mother. Amy asked his father, “Can I keep the baby geese, please " "Yes," Thomas agreed. Although he knew there would be a lot of challenges waiting for them, it might be a chance to improve their relationship.
Looking after the baby geese very carefully, Amy even named all of them like a real mother. Soon winter arrived, it was the time for migrant birds like geese to go south for the cold days. Thomas made a great many attempts to teach the geese to fly but none of them followed him. They just stuck close to Amy all the time.

九、概要写作
36.(2021·浙江杭州·学军中学校考三模)阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Most students experience a lot of stress while preparing for exams,as both their parents and teachers expect them to get high scores. Students who feel anxious are likely to experience problems like difficulty in concentrating while studying, confusion, feeling stressed while looking at difficult questions, feeling blank, sweating, sleepless, etc. Under such circumstances they end up scoring less than they could have. Therefore,it's extremely important for students to learn about how to overcome fear,so that they can take their examination confidently, finally earning good grades. Here are a few tips on ways to overcome exam fear.
There are many students who take studies lightly, leaving everything to be studied at the last minute. As a result, when exams are around the corner, they feel scared,as they don't know where to start, and what to study. So the easiest way of overcoming this problem is to start studying much before the exam. Another common mistake that many students make is that they don't make an effort to understand the subject. When they have memorized without understanding, the chances of forgetting are more. Therefore,it is vital to understand the concept before memorizing it. In this way, you will never forget any important point. Besides, that the exams are coming does not mean that you have to sit with your books for the entire day,and students should take regular breaks to relax and refresh their mind. However, they should avoid watching too much TV and addicting themselves to the Internet,in which way, they are more likely to waste time.
Apart from the tips above, here are some points that will help students cope with exam-related anxiety. For example, before the exam, avoid studying anything new or having conversations with your classmates about what they have studied and how much they have studied, both of which will make you more nervous. During the exam, if you get blank after seeing difficult questions, ignore them for the time being, and attempt those you find easier. Once you have completed them,go back to the difficult ones.
