五、读后续写
9.(2022·浙江温州·统考一模)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I’m smaller than everyone else my age. When I walk in the halls at school, I have to squeeze in between the bigger kids to get by. At the playground, sometimes even little kids try to boss me around. Mia, my best friend, is so tall that when she walks, I have to jog to keep up with her.
I used to try to make myself taller whenever I could. My posture was perfect, straight as an arrow. I hung from the tree in our backyard to stretch out my arms and legs. I even ate all my vegetables. Every day I measured myself, but I was the same height every time. Frustrating!
“Don’t worry,” Mom always said. “Being small has its advantages.” “Really I could never notice any.”
One day, Mrs. Alvarez announced to the class that we’d be putting on a spring play. I practiced all the lines. But at the audition (试演), when I walked up to the stage, Mrs. Alvarez cried, “You’ll be perfect as the elf (小精灵)! You’re just the right size for the costume.” I even never got a chance to deliver the practiced lines. Back home I grumbled (咕哝) to mum that I was made an elf. But she bet I would be the best elf. To please her, I went to rehearsals (排练), though I only had two lines.
Mia got the lead role-a girl wandering through a magical fairy forest in search of her lost dog. In the last scene, she finds a box under a giant mushroom, and when she opens it, her dog jumps out. Mrs. Alvarez’s dog, Prince, played the dog role. She brought him to all the rehearsals, and when he wasn’t onstage, we got to play with him, but he seemed to like me best.
The night of the show, my first line came early, “Let’s ask the Fairy Queen!” Since my only other line was toward the end, I waited offstage, playing with Prince.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

10.(2022·浙江温州·统考三模)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Luke was a 12-year-old boy. He was flying alone to meet his parents in Maroochydore for his summer vacation. He wanted to go to the toilet, so he stood up and walked along the aisle.
A little girl was waiting outside the toilet already. Luke could see that she had been crying.
“What’s your name ” he asked her.
“Cathy,” said the little girl, starting to cry again. She told Luke that her father was taking her to America without telling her mum and that she didn’t want to leave her mum.
Luke’s eyes opened wide. “You mean your dad is kidnapping (绑架) you ” he gasped. Cathy nodded, still sobbing.
At that moment the toilet door opened and the flight attendant came out. She saw the tears on Cathy’s face. With a stern look, she warned Luke to stop bullying the little girl and stay away from her. Cathy didn’t know what to do. She put her thumb into her mouth and then ran into the toilet.
Luke was sad, dragging his feet back to his seat. How could he tell someone what was happening Cathy’s father was sitting just across the aisle. He could hear every word. Suddenly Luke had a brainwave! He secretly wrote a note and pressed the call button. The attendant came and read the note quickly. “That’s not a very good joke.” She dropped the note into her pocket and walked away.
A sharp look from Cathy’s father warned Luke that he had known his “trick”. Luke slumped back in his seat. He felt that everyone in the plane was angry with him. How could he tell someone what was happening
Soon, the plane landed. Luke could see Cathy’s father striding down the walkway towards an escalator (自动扶梯). Cathy was trying to pull away, and crying, but her father picked her up and started running up the stairs. Luke spotted a policeman at the exit, but it was quite a distance.

11.(2022·浙江温州·统考二模)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I’d seen Kim around campus long before the winter of my sophomore (大二) year. I’d admired her from afar. She was pretty with smooth hair, always wearing a bright smile. I’d decided that if I were to choose one girl as my friend, she would be the one. Even though our paths crossed several times a day, I felt as if she lived in some remote corner of a distant universe, where I was sure she had no idea that I existed.
She was there the night when I was invited to a party. A favorite band was playing that night, and I welcomed the chance to get out of my stuffy dorm room and away from hard work. I arrived late and took a seat at a table alone in the back of the room. The others didn’t notice me, but I didn’t care. I made a decision to hang out for fifteen minutes and then left.
I heard a familiar laugh.... Then, I saw her sitting with her friends. She seemed to shine, making everything and everybody else in the room fade to insignificance. How I wished I were together with her! I looked around and wondered if anybody else saw her, but they all seemed too caught up in their corners of conversation to notice. How could they not She was shining.
I imagined myself walking up to her and then saying hello. What would she say Would she just laugh or simply ignore me Maybe my voice would crack, and I’d turn and slink away as if it had all been a mistake. Then I could simply spend the rest of my college years going around corners and taking roundabout routes to avoid seeing her.
At that moment, she turned toward the back of the room. Her gaze rested on me. I saw her lean over and whisper something to one of her friends, and then she got up and weaved her way through the cluster of tables.

12.(2021·浙江温州·校联考三模)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
A couple of months before I started high school, my parents gave me the greatest gift any teenage boy could ask for: a cellphone. I lived on that phone all summer with my face buried in its screen. I texted with every friend who was lucky enough to have a texting plan. I ignored my family and my surroundings. Being connected was more important than being present.
So, you can imagine my displeasure when l learned what my dad had planned for our family vacation that year. “This year,” my dad said, “we’ll be doing something special. We’re going camping!” His excitement was met with a disappointed sigh. It wasn’t my dream vacation, but I remained unbothered throughout the packing and planning. My mind was on my phone. I was so buried in the screen, in fact, that the first time I can remember truly looking up was when we drove across a bridge on the way to our campsite.
I stared out the window and saw redwoods towering above us, their branches threatening to pierce (刺破) the blue sky. I saw a roaring river, with slivers of silky black water appearing between crashing white rapids. The air blowing into the car from the open windows was hot and smelled of pine. But none of that mattered to me. The reason I had looked up was for something far more serious. My phone no longer had service.
The last hour of the drive was increasingly tense. My dad announced that he had chosen a campsite that had no cell service, and that my phone would be useless until we returned home. I would be trapped in the forest for four days with no way to contact the outside world! I went through the full cycle of teenage emotions during the first day of the trip. I raged (发怒). I bargained. I begged. I flip-flopped (转变) from a depressive state to anger and back.
I went to bed angrily that night. But when I awoke in the morning, something had changed.

13.(2021·浙江温州·统考三模)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
After dinner, Mrs. Quimby told the family that Grandma, who lived on a farm, had sent in a lot of pumpkins for jack-o’-lanterns (空心南瓜灯) for the neighborhood children. There was one in the basement waiting to be carved, she added. Ramona sprang to her feet and dashed down to bring it up, but it was too heavy for a second-grader. Finally Mr. Quimby gave a hand.
“Let’s make it smile like last year,” exclaimed Ramona.
“Hmm. Let’s see.” Mr. Quimby studied the pumpkin, turning it to find the best side for the face. With a pencil he sketched (素描) a nose-shaped nose, not a triangle. Then the mouth turned up on both sides. “smiling!” Ramona clapped her hands.
Mr. Quimby nodded with a smile, cut a circle around the top of the pumpkin and lifted it off for a lid. Without being asked, Ramona found a big spoon for scooping out the seeds. Picky-picky, the Quimbys' shabby old cat, came into the kitchen to see if something had been put in his dish. When he found that it had not, he paused, sniffed the pumpkin smell and angrily walked out with his tail twitching.
Mr. Quimby began to whistle as he carved with skill and care, first a mouthful of teeth, each one neat and square, then eyes and eyebrows. He was working on two ears shaped like question marks when Mrs. Quimby announced it was bedtime for Ramona. Unwillingly Ramona ran, took a shower and quickly returned. Now, Mr. Quimby had just carved a few C-shaped curls (卷发) around the hole in the top of the pumpkin. He reached inside and dug a candle holder in the bottom.
“There,” he said, putting down his knife. “A work of art.” Mrs. Quimby found a candle stub (残根), inserted it in the pumpkin, lit it and set the lid in place. Ramona turned off the light. The jack-o’-lantern was smiling with a flickering flame. “Wow!” Ramona threw her arms around her father before going to bed with great satisfaction.

It was a rainy November morning. Overcome with anger I knew if I didn’t leave the house soon I would lose my temper with my husband, Joe. As rain came down in sheets, Joe offered to take me to work. I struggled into my jacket, seized my bag and teaching plans and ignored him.
He insisted and reached for his boots. I looked at the piles of newspapers and the dirty dishes still on the table. “Don’t you have enough to do?I can take care of myself.” I stormed out, not even kissing him good-bye. Joe shouted after me not to take the shortcut.
Joe and I had been eagerly looking forward to our retirement when heart a attack that past spring forced him to leave his job earlier than we had planned. As the medical bills mounted we realized I would have to continue working full-time while Joe stayed home and took over the housework.
The new arrangement was a disaster. Exhausted after a day of full work, all I wanted was hot homecooked meal and a good night’s sleep. However, what greeted me at the table was a microwave package. Sometimes he would serve oatmeal for several nights in a row. One night when I dragged myself to bed, I was terrified to discover Joe had turned our white sheets blue: He told me he had found out how to save on water, soap and electricity. He patted his blue trousers and announced proudly washing everything together was just the secret.
Ten minutes later, ignoring Joe’s warning I turned off the main route. I thought it hadn’t rained enough to flood the road, but as I rounded the corner water rushed across my path. After a few feet, the car got stuck. I opened the door and water poured in. I hurriedly closed the door. I couldn’t risk walking in this. Almost 20 minutes passed. The car began to shake. I got frightened to death when I heard three long honks.

At Dana’s yard sale, Tim chose a baseball from the toys spread on the card table and asked about the price. Dana told him everything was a quarter except Nezumi,a cotton toy rat. It was gray with some cotton sticking out from the hole where an ear had been torn off. “Nezumi is extra special, so he has ten dollars. He needs a safe new home,” Dana sighed.
Tim laughed saying he didn’t have ten dollars. Dana laughed, too and gave Nezumi to Tim as a free gift because he was her friend. When Tim whispered it was sort of old, Dana said old toys were the best. She then invited Tim to her birthday party the next evening, adding that her parents were giving her a real rat for her birthday. Tim was amazed and asked if it was a live rat. “Of course,” Dana said.
At home, Tim’s mother showed him the gift she had bought for Dana. It was a knitting spool (编织线轴) shaped like a mushroom. Mom said Dana could knit a scarf for her doll. Tim sighed that Dana wasn’t a knitting kind of person but a rat kind of person. Mom laughed after knowing what had happened. Together they drove to the pet store, where Tim searched and searched and selected a clear plastic ball, one in which the rat could run around on the floor safe from cats and dogs. Tim thought of Nezumi’s ear and decided Dana’s new rat would need this ball.
The next day, Dana brought cupcakes to class. When she handed a cupcake to Tim,she asked if Tim brought Nezumi to school as Nezumi liked to ride in backpacks. Tim was at a loss because Nezumi was at home on his bed. Then Dana asked what gift he was giving her. Tim replied it was a surprise. In silence they sat for a while before he heard Dana say her parents were giving her a new bike for her birthday instead of a live rat because they thought rats would bite things.

六、概要写作
16.(2021·浙江温州·统考二模)阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
Feeling hungry If you're feeling starved, what is the easiest way to satisfy your hunger Many of us will reach for a takeaway menu and order some delicious but possibly unhealthy food. And our increasingly busy life adds to our need to buy ready-made food on the go or delivered to our home.
Eating options are endless, and new technology means we can feed our desire at the push of a button. Takeaway delivery apps make ordering food quick and convenient. This is especially the case during the recent coronavirus crisis, when people stuck at home with nothing to cook or lacked the skills to prepare a meal for themselves. It's calculated that in the UK alone, people eat three million takeaway meals a day, and the three biggest delivery apps together offer a choice of 100 cuisines from 60,000 restaurants. Amelia Brophy, Head of UK Data Products at You Goy, told the BBC that its research “suggests that the frequency of takeaways ordered is expected to increase in the future.”
It's no wonder we are tempted (诱惑) to skip the grocery shopping, avoid the kitchen, and tuck into (大口吃) something that someone else has prepared. But ordering a deep crust pizza, a spicy curry or a box of noodles, can come at a price both financially and to our health. Eating too much processed and unhealthy fast food has some effect on obesity and the risk of developing certain diseases. Children and adolescents who eat fast food at least three times a week are more likely to develop eczema, according to one study. Eczema is a skin condition that causes patches of itchy skin.
Of course, reducing salt, sugar and fat is one way to make takeaway food healthier. Yet, that's far from enough. The best advice you might want to take is to find a recipe book and try making your own meal.

1.Dear Sir or Madam,
I’m Li Hua, a student from University of Stanford. Finishing the provided online courses, I can’t wait to convey my feedback of them and offer some relevant suggestions.
In general, every course I took in Stanford was impressive and insightful. The instructive professors, the friendly classmates and in most special, the discussions, all of them gave me many "moments of epiphany". However, there also exist some problems. I'd be much obliged if you could perfect the campus network and diversify the curriculum to enhance my study efficiency.
Your consideration for my advice would be appreciated a great deal. Looking forward to your reply.

Due to its poor quality and much inconvenience it has caused, I wonder whether you can do something about it. I would appreciate it very much if I can get my money back. If it can’t be helped, I wish you could have it repaired or changed.
I’m looking forward to your early reply .
Best wishes,
Yours,
Li Hua

I was about to voice when Kim uttered firstly, “Hello, Rob, what are you doing back here ” I looked up, and she was standing right in front of me, smiling as if we were old friends. “How would you know my name ” I mumbled with shock. “You excel academically in our major and I come across you on campus many times”, she said with a twinkle in her brown eyes. At that time, I could feel a warm breeze blowing into my heart, which melted the ice inside. And I began to assess myself anew, finding the virtues in me. After that night, a lasting friendship was forged between Kim and I, adding color to our college days.
Many years later, my thoughts sometimes still go back to that night. I recall an evening, a moment kept alive in the memory of Kim’s smiling eyes. And now, when I went to a party, I would be positive to greet those who might feel a little out of place. I just wanted to spread the warmth that I had ever been offered. Instead of burying myself in my phone, l focused on something else: my surroundings. I let the noise of the wilderness wash over me, animals and bugs creating a ruckus that was both loud and serene at the same time. My anger turned to peace, then little interest and, finally, excitement. Standing on the high campsite, I felt the weight of stress melt from my shoulders as I viewed the vast expanse that unfolded below me. The sight that met my startled eyes nearly took my breath away. For the first time, I thought camping in a place that had no cell service might not be so bad.

We cooked together and I ate the sweetest marshmallows I had ever tasted. Dad told me stories of his life, stories I had never heard or perhaps I hadn’t been listening. I screamed that I couldn’t make it. Joe, however, remained calm!He urged me to take one step at a time and assured me I could make it.
