Since the earliest times, people have looked up at the stars, the moon and the planets. Today people use modern machines to 11 at the sky. This is very different from the situation thousands of years ago 12 people could only use their eyes. Perhaps they dreamed of 13 the universe. When did humans first go into space The story began not so very long ago, 14 the first astronauts were not people—they were animals.
Scientists wanted to make travelling to space as 15 as possible for humans. So they decided to experiment with animals and test them in space flights. Insects, mice, frogs, dogs and monkeys were some of the animals that first went into space. Many of them 16 , but they helped to make space travel safer for humans. For their great service, we 17 forget these animals.
Albert Ⅱ was the first monkey to go into space in 1949. Sadly he died after his spaceship landed back on the 18 .
Luckily, the result was different for Ham the Monkey. His story ended happily when he returned to the earth 19 very good health.
Scientists wanted to know the answer to the important question: Could an animal like Ham do the same things in space as he could do on the earth The answer came when Ham was sent into space in 1961. Yes, he did everything well and lived for 20 16 years.

Which is the most difficult, becoming a mother of two, getting a doctorate(博士学位), or flying into space Astronaut Liu Yang has already set an example of women who can have it all.
On June 5, 2022, Liu set off on her second space mission. She would stay in space for six months, working with the other two astronauts on China’s space station.
“My girl and boy asked me to take more photos of the universe so that they could share them with their classmates. I will also write my blessings(祝福) to them ‘in the stars’ during the space trip,” Liu said before her new mission.
Liu became China’s first woman astronaut to get into space in 2012, spending 13 days in the Shenzhou-9 spaceship. Before that, she spent two years taking courses and training. She never went shopping or saw a movie during the two years. Her hard work finally paid off and she became the first woman astronaut on the Shenzhou-9 mission. After that, she went to study at university and got her doctorate. Also, she raised two children while carrying on training.
Born in 1978, Liu didn’t dream of being an astronaut as a child. She was a pupil Chinese chess champion(冠军) when she was young. She once dreamed of being a lawyer(律师), a bus driver, or an office worker. However, once she made up her mind to be an astronaut, she worked hard for it. That is what we must learn from her story.
21.How long is Liu’s second mission in space ( )
For about 180 days. B. For about 90 days. C. For about 30 days. D. For about 13 days.
22.What did Liu promise her children before the mission ( )
A. To take more photos of the universe. B. To write blessings to them “in the stars”.
C.To go shopping with them after the mission.D. To go to the movies with them after the mission.
23.Which of the following used to be Liu’s dream as a child ( )
①An astronaut ②A Chinese chess champion ③A lawyer ④A bus driver ⑤An office worker
A. ①②③④⑤ B. ②③ C. ③④⑤ D. ①②③④
24.What does the writer want us to learn from Liu’s story ( )
A. Don’t be afraid of dreaming big. B. We must set up our dreams early.
C. It’s not a good idea to change your dream. D. Work hard for it once you set up your dream.

In many stories on TV and in science fiction, humans can travel to stars far away. But so far, people have only been able to get to the moon.
What if a person wants to get to a star far away It would take a lifetime to travel. People should have to move at least at the speed(速度) of light. But in fact, nothing can move faster than light.
Light travels more than 186,000 miles a second(秒), or about 11 million miles a minute. In one year, light travels about 6 trillion (6,000,000,000,000) miles. That great distance is called a light-year (光年). It is used to measure(测量) distance in space.
Strange things happen to an object(物体) when it moves very fast. If an object moves at 86% of the speed of light, it will be twice as heavy as it is at rest. A stick appears shorter. A clock runs more slowly. A person would not age so fast in space as on the earth.
Alpha Centauri is the closest star to the sun. It is over four light-years away. So if a human traveled at the speed of light, it would take him nine years to go to Alpha Centauri and come back.
25. About the speed of light, which of the following is true
A. Light travels about 11 million miles a second.
B. Light travels more than 186,000 miles a minute.
C. Light travels about 11 million miles an hour.
D. Light travels about 6 trillion miles a year.
26. The underlined word "age" means .
A. 老年 B. 变老 C. 年龄 D. 时代
27. What's the best title(标题) of this article
A. The Distance Between the Sun and Other Stars B. How to Travel to Alpha Centauri
C. Nothing Can Move Faster Than Light D. Life Is Too Short
C
At the moment, it may be difficult to imagine, but many people believe that, by the year 2100, we will live on the planet Mars. Our own planet, the Earth, is becoming more and more crowded and polluted. Luckily, we can start again and build a better world on Mars. Here is what life could be like.
First of all, transport should be much better. At present, our spaceships are too slow to carry large numbers of people to Mars—it takes months. However, by 2100, spaceship can travel at half the speed of light. It might take us two or three days to get to Mars!
Secondly, humans need food, water and air to live on. Scientists should be able to develop plants that can be grown on Mars. These plants will produce the food and air that we need. However, can these plants produce water for us There is no answer now.
There is a problem for us to live on Mars. Mars pulls us much less than the Earth does. This will be dangerous because we could easily jump too high and fly slowly away into space. To prevent this, humans on Mars have to wear special shoes to make themselves heavier.
Life on Mars will be better than that on the Earth in many ways. People will have more space. Living in a large building with only 10 bedrooms is highly possible. Many people believe that robots will do most of our work, so we have more time for our hobbies.
There will probably be no school on Mars. Every student will have a computer at home which is connected to the Internet. They can study, do their homework and take exams in online schools. Each student will also have their own online teacher called "e-teacher".
However, in some ways, life on Mars may not be better than that on the Earth today. Food will not be the same-meals will probably be in the form of pills and will not be as delicious as they are today. Also, space travel will make many people feel ill. The spaceship will travel fast but the journey to Mars will probably be very uncomfortable.
28.According to the text, by the year 2100, some of us will possibly live .
A. on Mars B. on the moon C. under the sea D. in the sun
29. In the future, the students on Mars .
A. will study mainly through the Internet B. will study mainly in a classroom
C. will meet each other face to face every day D. needn't study at all
30. According to the text, which of the following about Mars is NOT true
A. Transport will be much better and faster.
B. We need to develop a special plant which can produce water.
C. On Mars, we can jump higher than on the earth.
D. Food will be much more tasty.

When we talk about the space, we know the universe means the earth, the sun, the moon, the stars and so on in space. Many of the stars are so far away that we cannot see them.
Through our geography lessons, we know the earth goes around the sun, and that the moon goes around the earth.
We have day and night because the earth keeps moving all the time. Just because the moon is closer to the earth than the sun, it looks much bigger than the sun.
The sun is bright enough to give out very strong light. The moon can't give out any light at all, but it looks quite bright, too. Why In fact, the light from the moon comes from the sun. (1) But in fact the stars are much bigger and brighter than the moon. (2)在宇宙中仍然有许多其他的行星。But of all these planets, only on the earth there are living things. People on the earth have studied the space all the time. They've sent many spaceships into the space many times. On November 3 and 14, 2011, Chinese scientists let Shenzhou Ⅷ successfully dock with(对接) the Tiangong Ⅰ twice. This is one of the greatest events in the history of China's space.
