Lead in Step1 Let's talk 1. Ask and answer questions about the pictures. Tell what the people were doing. 2. Write the -ing form of the verbs. Step 2 Let's complete the sentences 1. Read the sentences in the Grammar Focus chart. 2. Close the textbooks and fill in the blanks to complete the sentences. 3. Help students sum up the grammar rules.
Presentation Step 3 Let's learn 1. Learn the past progressive tense. a) Definition b)Sentence patterns c) Usage d) Differences between past progressive tense and simple past tense 2. Master the use of conjunctions when and while. Understand the difference between them. Step 4 Let's practice (4a&4b) 1. Look the example sentences. Write sentences with both while and when. Check answers and correct mistakes. 2. Fill in the blanks with was, were, when or while. Invite some student to read the passage and check answers. Step 5 Let's conduct a survey 1. Work in pairs to ask the partner what he/she was doing at these times last Sunday. 4. Write a report.
