Lead in Step I Lead-in 1. Greet the class as usual and check their homework. 2. Warm up. Show some pictures of people who need someone's help to the students, for example,sick people, homeless children, dirty park, hunger T: Do you like these pictures S: No, they make me sad. T: What can you see in the picture S: There are some people who need help. T: Can you tell me something about the pictures S: The children are very poor, they don't have money to go to school. .. T: What can you do for them S: I can donate some books and clothes to them. Also I can save money to help them. T: Well, you're a kind boy/girl. Today we'll learn something about volunteers.
Presentation Step 1 Presentation Work on la. This part aims to introduce some new words and phrases. Point to the pictures, ask students to read the statements under the title of "Volunteer Today "CHI students' attention to the langunge poin, and make sentences using some phrases Step 2 Listening Work on 1b. This part is designed to train students' ability to catch main information by listening. Call students' attention to the sentences and scan four statements to get the topic idea. Play the tape. For the first time, students only listen and get the main idea. The second time, students listen and number the ways the boy and girl could help others. After they finish listening, invite a student to present his or her answers. Ask students to read the sentences again and ex plain the language points to the class. Work on 1c. This part is designed to train students' ability to speak using the target language. Call students' attention to the conversation in la, and ask students to demonstrate it to the class again Read the instructions to the class. Have students work in groups to finish the task, and then invite students to share their work with the class. Sample conversation: S: I hope to help the homeless people. S: You could give out food at the food bank. Step 3 Practice 1. Teach Activities 2a & 2b. These two parts are designed to train students' listening and writing skills. First, point to the five pictures in 2a and ask students to describe them one by one. Read the instruction to the class and have students do the task as required. F Invite a pair of students to read the sample conversation to the class. Then lead students to have a quick look at the instruction to know what to do in this activity. Have students work in pairs to make their own conversations. After that, get some students to act out to the class. Step IV Consolidation Teach Activity 2d. First, give students several minutes to practice reading the conversation with deskmate. Ask them to pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation, underline some difficult expressions at the same time. After they finish reading, invite some pairs to role-play it.
