We sat at home, waiting for the COVID-19 cases to decrease and for the weather to improve. We all dreamed of what we would do when we could finally go outside.
I rode my old bike faithfully for almost 20 years before getting the replacement, which got stolen forcing me back to Old Faithful. The weak-minded might have abandoned biking completely at that point, but not me. Biking means freedom.
Every spring I get Old Faithful ready. She is getting old, with more replacement parts than originals. But with all bike stores being low on new models, she is all I have. On my bike, as long as I’m alive and eating, I’ve got fuel and can pedal to the ends of Earth if I want. No obstacle is impassable. Jammed roads mean nothing. I can still weave between cars in traffic. This memory of freedom means even more to me with the experience of lockdown.
Society gritted its teeth (咬紧牙关) in the knowledge that we just had to tough it out for a year to get to the other side . Then Delta hit. Then Omicron. A year turned into two, and that’s when the walls really started closing in. That’s when we really needed hope. So, I count the days until I can return to my bike. On my bike, I achieve another state of mind. I would push myself to reach the top each time. I wanted to feel that little thrill of making it to the summit, knowing that doing so told me once again that I could go anywhere and that nothing could hold me back. I was free.
Every few years I add a new ache or pain. I am starting to get old. I can’t cycle as fast as I used to. But every time I encounter a hill, I don’t give up. I’m waiting for that first warm day when I’ll escape the pandemic walls. I want to put on my helmet and for one brief, beautiful moment, be free again.
(24)What caused the author to ride Old Faithful
A.He had his bike stolen unluckily. B.He wanted to replace the old one.
C.He hoped to go through his isolation. D.He wished to avoid its becoming dusty.
(25)What does Paragraph 3 want to say
A.The limitation of driving vehicles. B.The advantages of riding his bike.
C.The hardship to find bike originals. D.The special experience of lockdown.
(26)What does the underlined sentence “Society gritted ...” in Paragraph 4 mean
A.Keep something for a rainy day. B.Be a playboy without ambition.
C.A good medicine tastes bitter. D.Holding on makes life hopeful.
(27)What’s the main idea of the passage
A.Tough situations make me stronger and smarter.
B.The pandemic lockdown can not lock my dreams away
C.What I want to do when the pandemic lockdown ends.
D.How I relieved my pressure during the pandemic lockdown.

WHAT’S FOR dinner The answer matters, at every level. Globally, food prices have risen in 13 of the past 15 months and are close to their peak of 2011, owing to poor weather and the outbreak of a swine-flu in2018. In reality, agriculture uses half the world’s habitable land and accounts for more than 30% of global emissions. When one such factory in Teesside, in northern England, recently threatened to shut down because of high natural gas prices, the government had to step in to prevent food supply chains from collapsing.
Fortunately, technologies are emerging that promise to produce food in new ways. These range from bioreactors that grow meat to indoor“vertical” farms and new ways of producing fish. So it is easy to see how steaks made from plant-based protein, or grown in vats (桶) from cells, could greatly reduce factory farming and land and water use, and produce fewer emissions.
That does not mean people will be willing to eat it, however. Given food’s cultural importance, people don’t respond actively to new foodstuffs and production processes, because they feared it caused something harmful.
At the same time traditional foods and farming model are adored. Many Western consumers are willing to pay extra for food, because it avoids“chemicals”. Yet supposedly timeless food traditions are often shallower than they seem. Potatoes were eventually widely adopted in Europe (the invention of French fries helped). Coffee from Arabia and tea from China were unknown in Europe before the 17th century.
The new foods and processes on offer today present opportunities to create delicious and sustainable new traditions. Western consumers should put aside their reservations about eating crickets and give plant-based burgers and 3D-printed steaks a try. Regulators should be more open to gene-editing crops, and speed up approval of eatable insects for animal feed and human consumption.
(28)What does the author aim to stress in paragraph 1
A.Food system faces pressure from some factors.
B.Food production causes more serious pollution.
C.Agriculture plays important roles in the world.
D.Food safety is vitally significant for people
(29)What can we infer from Paragraph 2
A.Livestock tends to decline in the future
B.Plant-based protein will be more popular.
C.Technology will make a huge difference.
D.Agricultural land should be well protected
(30)What’s consumers’ attitude to new foodstuff
A.Favorable. B.Skeptical. C.Indifferent. D.Unclear.
(31)What’s the suitable title for the passage
A.To eat or not to eat: that’s a question that you have.
B.What you eat: a diverse food culture appealing to you
C.New ways to make food are coming-but will you bite
D.A new era in technology is approaching-but are you ready

For years, the conventional wisdom among Silicon Valley futurists was that artificial intelligence and automation indicated doom (厄运) for blue-collar workers whose jobs involved repetitive physical labor. Truck drivers, retail cashiers and warehouse workers would all lose their jobs to robots, they said, while workers in creative fields like art, entertainment and media would be safe. Well, an unexpected thing happened recently: AI entered the creative class.
In the past few months, AI-based image generators like DALL-E 2, Midjourney and Stable Diffusion have made it possible for anyone to create unique, hyper-realistic images just by typing a few words into a text box. These apps, though new, are already surprisingly popular.
It’s still too early to tell whether this new wave of apps will end up costing artists and illustrators their jobs. What seems clear, though, is that these tools are already being put to use in creative industries.
Sarah Drummond, a service designer in London, started using AI-generated images a few months ago to replace the black-and-white sketches she did for her job. These were usually basic drawings that visually represented processes she was trying to design improvements for.
Instead of spending hours creating what she called blob drawings manually , Ms. Drummond, 36, now types what she wants into DALL-E 2 or Midjourney. Ms. Drummond acknowledged that AI image generators had limitations. They aren’t good at more complex sketches, for example, or creating multiple images with the same character. And like the other creative professionals, she said she didn’t think AI designers would replace human illustrators completely.
“Would I use it for final output No. I would hire someone to fully make what we wanted to realize,” she said. “But the throwaway work that you do when you’re any kind of designer, whether it’s visual, architectural, urban planner—you’re sketching, sketching sketching. And so this is a sketch tool.”
(32)What’s the conventional wisdom about
A.AI can learn to create unique images. B.Robots will be popular in all the fields
C.AI will take the place of physical labor. D.Apps will give birth to some problems.
(33)What’s the character of DALL-E 2 or Midjourney according to Sara
A.It gets drawing skills improved. B.It helps in some basic drawings
C.It makes sketches more diverse D.It is creative as well as humans.
(34)What does the underlined word “manually” in Paragraph 5 mean
A.By machine. B.By imagination C.By technology. D.By hand.
(35)What’s the passage mainly about
A.AI-generated art is already transforming creative work.
B.The apps are getting artists losing their jobs at present being.
C.Science and technology completely change people’s life now.
D.Two useful drawing tools are designed for artists in their life.

Our library hold over twenty thousand books. We have an easy access to it in every afternoon. Natural, there’re some rules in it, one of them is that we must keep quiet. Besides, every one of us is allowed to borrow five books at one time. I like to stay in it.
