五、读后续写
9.(2022·河北张家口·统考三模)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Nike was a wheel dog who was directly in front of the sled (雪橇) and take most of the force. Whether little Nike had been named after the athletic shoe or the Greek goddess of victory, I would never know. He came into my life due to an injury in one of his legs which prevented him from making the team for the Trail Sled Dog Race.
My lifelong dream was to become a mountain man. So this winter, my wife Cheryl and I headed into the mountains with supplies to live for five months. In January, we had begun pushing east toward an untraveled area of the Yukon River. The trapping prospects there looked promising. We returned to our main cabin and made plans for me to use Cheryl’s dogs, hooking (钩) them together to form a large team. The idea was to bring supplies several miles down the river and establish a permanent camp.
That meant I’d be traveling alone and driving a sled loaded with around 300 pounds of goods, which meant extra hard work for my wheeler, Nike. The first serious challenge in our trip came where the path went down a steep valley that led to the river. As we started down, I stood on the brake with all of my weight in an attempt to keep balance. But the heavy sled began overtaking the dogs, and they picked up their pace to stay ahead of it. The sled became faster and faster until we came to a sharp turn at the bottom of the hill.
Eventually, the dogs got entangled (缠结) with each other and the sled got stuck in a crack in the river ice. I emerged from a large snowdrift and assessed the damage. I expected to find my dogs and a broken sled. But the sled was fine, and the dogs had jumped over each other, freeing themselves from the tangled ropes. Nike emerged from’ the snow, shook himself off, looked at me with encouraging eyes and made me smile.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Now I have to save myself from the icy river.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I had begun to accept that this was how I was going to die, but Nike wouldn’t have it.

10.(2022·河北张家口·统考一模)“Be sure to hang the decorations high,” said Polly, my stepmom. “Jake might mistake the colorful glass balls for his toys and try to bite them,” Jake was new to our family that Christmas. He was a beautiful brown-and-white dog. And, of course, he was loaded with the curiosity that made everything a toy.
Two weeks before Christmas, we brought out the boxes of decorations, many of which had been in Polly’s family for ages. Among them was a special box that held an entire gingerbread family (姜饼人). They were real cookies, hung with red ribbons (丝带) and made many years earlier.
Every now and then, I or one of my little sisters—Ruth and Sue—would pretend we were going to eat one, knowing that Polly would say, “You’ll break a tooth! They’re so old that they’re rock-hard.” We didn’t really want to eat them, but we enjoyed making fun of Polly.
Since we didn’t know how Jake would react to the decorations or the Christmas tree, we were careful to put the decorations up high. Jake sniffed (嗅) the tree a lot. Those first couple of days, Polly caught him starting to lift a leg on the tree twice. But he learned quickly and settled for sniffing from a distance.
The weekend before Christmas, Dad and Polly took us to watch the new holiday movie. Excited, we jumped into the car with bags of home-made popcorn, and off we went for a great evening.
A few hours later, we returned home, only to find...a terrible mess. It wasn’t the Christmas tree. In fact, we weren’t sure what it was. We stood just inside the door staring at the mess. As it turned out, it was Jake’s bed, which he’d destroyed. Left alone for the first time, he must have gotten bored, attacked it and left it for dead. We didn’t know that the bed was not the only victim.

My dad's life seemed typical of his generation. He graduated from high school during the Depression and worked for a large company. He enlisted (入伍) in 1941, served in the Pacific and Europe.
On returning, he met my mother, married and had three children. Because of the job, he needed to continue his education. With his full-time job and attending to his family, he attended college in the evening and obtained his degree.
As kids, we knew what Dad told us. During cold winters he sympathized with unfortunate kids in just T-shirt and shorts. He was saddened by children with nothing under the Christmas tree. He loved kids and schools and he wanted to spread kindness to everyone in need of help, so he was always ready to give a hand to people he met.
With us three kids on our own. Dad and Mom retired and came to Florida. Two years later Mom died, in 1980. From that time. Dad got into the habit of walking around his house. He also tried golf but failed to become addicted to it. Although it was hard time for Dad, he didn't give up the hope of life. He decided to do something meaningful to society.
Then he saw an ad requesting literacy (读写能力) volunteers. Dad helped some children, who were homeless learn to read and write. He also helped an old man learn to read because his literate wife was going blind. He told us he even wanted to be a teacher to help more people.
As time passed, Dad had some health problems. His legs became weak and he started to have trouble in sleeping. My brother, my younger sister and I came to look after him, telling him to stop doing the volunteer work and have a rest at home. However, he was so stubborn that he disagreed with us and insisted on his decision.

BPWD is a startup company, where my workmates and I work our heads off, seeking solutions to various environmental problems. We are what people consider a group of promising young talents working in a promising industry. We are from different backgrounds but we all fit in well with the high— paced life and enjoy all the convenience that Salt Lake City can offer. We pride ourselves on all the differences we are making to this planet but our best subject for lunch break chat is what we do as volunteers to protect a lake called Lake Purilence.
We first heard about the lake from my workmate, Bluto, who referred to it as his childhood paradise, where he used to fish, swim and cast pebbles (鹅卵石) with his friends. He described the lake area as one of the few places of wildness that had not been ruined by modern tourism. He had left the place for years since his parents sold their farm near the lake and moved to the city, but he still kept dreaming of going back. In his own words, he was “nature starved”. Attracted by Bluto's description, the five of us working in the same office got on our way to it in October, 2019, taking advantage of a federal holiday.
It was a place not only lesser known but also out of the way. We took a flight first and then rented two cars at the airport. We had to travel along backroads in rental cars to finally get there but the scenery was absolutely stunning. No wonder it was loved so dearly by Bluto. All the beautiful trees and the grass were covered with red and orange leaves and the quiet lake is like a mirror reflecting the golden rays of the sun. A short distance away, we could see a few other tourists taking pictures by the lake and some white birds flying up from the water and the patches of reed marshes (芦苇荡). Amazed by the scene, our hearts longed for a closer encounter with the lake.
注意:
1.续写的词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
As we got closer to the lake, however, we saw something strikingly inharmonious to the beautiful view.

When most people look back on middle school, they remember their best friends, and so do I. But what I remember may be a little different. Let me explain.
My heart was pounding when I climbed onto the school bus on the first day of middle school. As I was looking for a seat, my eyes landed on two girls sitting together. They smiled at me and pointed to the seat next to theirs.
I sat down and we chatted. They were Heather and Jessica. It turned out that we had the first period together and we became friends. We ate lunch together, hung out in the park and played games in Jessica's room on weekends. But our friendship wasn't without its faults. Jessica had an "I'm-the-boss" personality. She always had to be in charge.
One time, the three of us went to the mall. I wanted to go to Abercrombie. But Jessica rolled her eyes and told me to go to Rave. Not wanting to argue, I followed her.
This skirt would look great on you. "Jessica exclaimed. "Try it on!"
"I don't like it," I said.
Jessica gave me a death glare so I made my way to the dressing room.
I ended up spending fifty dollars on a skirt that I didn't even like, just to make Jessica happy. Throughout the following year, this was how it was. If Jessica went somewhere, Heather and I went there too. I found I was behaving as a pretended version of myself just to please Jessica and to keep her from being mad at me.
Then, summer came. Jessica invited Heather and me to go to Cape Cod with her. I decided to go to Florida with another friend instead, so Jessica got angry. I went to Florida and didn't hear from her.

On May 22, a huge tornado (龙卷风) struck Joplin, Missouri. It destroyed 8,000 tructures and injured more than 1,100 people. At first, many residents, including me, felt hopeless. The world seemed over. Faced with confusion, uncertainty, loss and hopelessness, we looked for any light to lead us out of the darkness.
The home of my parents, who were in their eighties, was severely damaged. Their roof was blown away, and the roof from a nearby school crashed into the front of their house. In seconds, the house they had lived in for years became impossible to live in.
As soon as my parents safely moved, I tried to determine if any of their remaining possessions could be saved. Regrettably, I discovered their roof, before departing for parts unknown, had dropped massive amounts of fiberglass insulation (绝缘材料). This pink material made everything appear to be coated in cotton candy, but the glass fibers within it had ruined most of their furniture and clothing.
My parents had hoped, however, that I might be able to save some of their books and pictures. Unfortunately, every time I tried to remove a photo album from a drawer or a book from a shelf, the non-stop rain wet what I was trying to protect. Between the rain and the glass fibers, it all seemed hopeless.
Trying to fight off hopelessness, I took a minute to stand in what was left of my parents' bedroom. When I looked up through their non-existent roof, I saw gray clouds floating above me, and suddenly everything seemed so strange. Rain coated my upturned face, flooded my eyes, and flowed into my mouth. Overwhelmed (压倒性的), I felt like I was drowning. I needed fresh air, so I ran outside.
Standing on my parents' front yard in the rain, I could breathe better but I still had an overwhelming sense of hopelessness.

In the morning, we, together with the community staff, went to visit several old people who lived all alone in our neighborhood. Hi! I 'm writing with delight to share with you my family tour to a nearby village called Lizhuang. Early summer is a great season for an outing to the countryside. Now I have to save myself from the icy river. As the sled sank beneath me, I tried to jump toward the edge of the ice, but failed and I had to prepare myself for a swim. To my astonishment, the water was only up to my knees, and there was very little current. When we finally came to the safety of the riverbank, I felt helpless and hopeless. The cold was rapidly deepening into my muscles, and I realized that my chances of survival were slim.
I had begun to accept that this was how I was going to die, but Nike wouldn’t have it. He ran in front of the sled and wagged his tail, ready to start again. I looked into his eyes and could swear he was smiling. I gathered my courage and tried to start a huge fire. Later as I recalled my experience in the warmth of my sleeping bag, I wondered whether I’d have survived if not for Nike and his attitude. Nike taught me that attitude is everything in the game of wilderness survival. And indeed he saved me!

As we got closer to the lake, however, we saw something strikingly inharmonious to the beautiful view. At the shore of the lake we could see litters of plastic bags and bottles here and there. Out of professional sensitivity, we could see what all this means to the environment and to the wild life. The disappointment and awkwardness were especially unbearable for Bluto, as if his childhood wonderland was ruined. We felt a strong drive to help our friend restore the wonderland and protect the lake before the situation turned too serious.
Looking at my workmates, I put forward a plan, which met their immediate approval. We decided to work as a voluntary team to do what we can to turn it around. Action began right then and there. We walked around the lake to collect litters and put up no littering signs. What we didn't expect was that the other tourists joined us in our action. Shocked, I took a step back, but he said in a comforting voice, “Everything is going to be alright.” He told me he heard about the disaster and came to help. Seeing everything inside was going to be ruined, he went through the rain toward the house, trying to get a cover over the house. He climbed up to the roof, pulled out a cutting tool to cut off pieces of rubbery-looking material.Working swiftly, he fastened these pieces to the remaining roof.
I watched him through the rain until I remembered I was supposed to be saving my parents' prized possessions. I went back inside and found some towels and plastic bags in a cupboard. Using the towels to dry off several photo albums and books, I placed these treasured items into the plastic bags for protection from the rain. Suddenly, I realized it was no longer raining in the house. Looking up, I saw rubbery-looking material covering the roof. He'd done it.
