For pupils at a village school in Yiuan county, Shandong province. Ren Jinan has not only been teaching them but also showing them how to face life bravely,especially when things just don’t seem to be working out.
Ren came from a poor family in a Yiyuan county village.She had to do more housework than other children when she was young because both her father and mother were ill health. With support from her relatives and villagers, Ren completed her 12-year school studies and was accepted by Qufu Normal University. But the four-year university experience didn't go well.Her father died and then she had to care for her mother.At the difficult moment, it was her teacher,Li Zhenhuawho came to her and offered help.
After graduation , Ren was faced with chances to work as a teacher in cities, but
she chose to return to her hometown and work as a country teacher at Fuluping Primary School. "Teacher Li gave up a well-paid job in a big city to teach children at the village school. I'd like to follow his path to play my part in the education in my hometown”, Ren says. Fuluping Primary School is about 50 kilometers away from
downtown Yiyuan county. It was once among the schools with the worst conditions in the country. But the school has its own beautiful and comfortable playground now.
Ren works hard on teaching and taking care of her students. She also spends a part of her money helping two poor students. She received the China Youth May 4th
Medal-the country's top honor for excellent young people.

Mr. Chen is a farmer who lives in western China with his wife and two sons. One year ago, he had cancer (癌症).The doctor told him that he needed an operation (手术) at once. And he said the operation would cost thousands of yuan. It was too much money for Mr. Chen and his wife. They had no job and both their sons were at school. The situation seemed hopeless.
Two weeks later, however, Mr. Chen got some good news. He was told about a health care project which provides medical treatment for poor patients in western China. They only need to pay half the cost or even less.
Thanks to the project and the kindness of his family and neighbors, Mr. Chen was able to receive an operation just in time to prevent the illness from getting worse. Now he has returned to his family.
The goal of this health care project is to improve the situation for poor people in western China. So far, the project has helped more than 5,000 people receive medical treatment. The Chinese government is also working together with other countries and international organizations to do this. Are you the only child in the family If so, you are the most important in your family. Parents are the closest people to you in the world.
But a lot of middle school students have a problem. They feel they’re not as close to their parents as before. They even don’t think parents are fair to them. Some students complain that their parents say a lot to them, but never listen to them. Some say their parents don’t allowed them to play computer games when other classmates are doing that. Others say when they’re making phone calls to friends, their parents like to ask if they’re speaking to a boy or a girl. These make them very unhappy.
