Here is some “breaking” news: the International Olympic Committee(IOC)has added breaking to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games!
Breaking might be one of the very unusual sports to be added to the games, as it’s often seen as more of an art form than a sport.
The dance style first appeared on the streets of New York in the 1970s. Performers dance to hip-hop music while using different movements, such as spins (旋转) and freezes(定格). In the1980s, breaking swept around the world when it was adopted(采用) by pop stars such as Michael Jackson. Jackson’s moonwalk --- a dance move that made him appear to be “floating” above the ground --- became a sensation (轰动) among teenagers worldwide.
Why did the IOC choose breaking Over the past few years, there has been talk that the Olympics have become irrelevant(不相关的) and less interesting to young people. The IOC is trying to make the Games more “youthful” and “urban”(都市的), with sports that young people actually do in their spare time. “We want to take sport to the youth,” said IOC President Thomas Bach.
To be added to the Olympics, a sport must be widely practised by men in at least 75 countries on four continents and by women in no fewer than 40 countries on three continents. Breaking certainly meets this standard(标准), according to The Sydney Morning Herald. It is also competitive and requires strict training just like other sports. Dancers need to have strong upper body and core(核心的) strength.
“I train at least10 hours a week---- but that’s just minimum and I’ve been training since I was a young kid,” top Australian breaker Lowe Napalan said.
“It’s great that it gives us more recognition as a sport,” said British breakdancer Karam Singh. “And for the Olympics, it will attract young people who may not follow some of the traditional sports.”
Breaking cannot be watched as a sport at the Olympics held in the year ________________.

be played by women in no fewer than 75 countries
be competitive and needs strict training
be practised by players with strong bodies

Breathing is something you do all day long, without even thinking about it. However, you might be doing it wrong. Research shows that the way you breathe affects the amount of oxygen you take in, as well as how you think and feel.
So which is it Do you breathe through your nose or your mouth Some health experts recommend that people breathe in through their noses and out through their mouths. Others say that people should just focus on breathing easily, paying no attention to their mouth or nose preference. But mouth breathing has also been connected with bad breath, snoring (打呼噜), high blood pressure and bad teeth.
Nose breathing may affect how memories are stabilized (稳定) in our brains, according to Swedish researchers. During the study, participants smelled 12 different smells and then were asked to breathe either through their noses or mouths for an hour afterwards. Then, they were presented with the original set of smells and a new set. Those who smelled with their noses remembered the smells better.
A research team recognized the differences in brain activity that occurred when seven epilepsy(癫痫)patients breathed through their noses or through their mouths. The team found three areas of the brain where activity is connected with breathing. These areas showed more changes in brain activity only when volunteers breathed in through their noses.
So, should mouth breathers change their breathing habits If you’re happy with the way you breathe and you aren’t experiencing any health problems, be yourself and just keep your own way. But if you think it might be time for a change, focus breathing through your nose until it becomes a habit. It might help you survive an emergency.
