在句中作时间状语，放在句末。尤指枯燥无味，今人厌烦的重复性，略含贬义。

辨析：day by day:指一天天地有变化，可以反映出事物的渐变过程，强调动作的变化。 day after day:指一天天地没有变化，强调动作的重复性。
