应用文参考范文:
Dear Students’ Union,
Extremely grateful that I have been invited to participate in the competition of the ballroom dancing but I am sorry I may lose the golden chance to show.
I’ve got a tight schedule these days, for I have been preparing for the approaching mid-term exam. Besides, my roommate is injured in the leg while playing football and I have to spare some time to attend to him. So it’s unrealistic for me to carry out the dancing drill.
Once again, sorry for any inconvenience caused and wish the activity a big hit.
读后续写参考范文:
For hours, we drove through the city.Suddenly, she asked me to pull up near a peaceful square, where, as she told me in a gentle voice, she first met her husband. She sat on the back seat still, gazing at the square through a mist of tears for a moment, and then signaled me to move on. All the way, I just listened attentively as if I were a loyal audience to my mother who used to call up her good old days. After what seemed like a magical journey back to the past, we eventually arrived at the gate of the nursing home at dawn.
"How much do I owe you " she asked, reaching for her purse."Nothing," I said quickly, shrugging with a light laugh, winking at the meter. She looked at me with wide-open eyes. Then her shock slowly gave way to grateful understanding. "Oh, you're such a good boy! Thank you." She held my hand tightly. "I just try to treat you the way I would want my mother treated," I responded softly. Then I bent over and gave her a hug. A sudden warmth and happiness hit me like a gentle breeze wiping my face. And I knew it was the grace of kindness.

Text 10
W: Sweetest Day is always the third Saturday in October. This holiday is much more important in some regions than in others (Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo are the biggest Sweetest Day cities). But this holiday is gaining in popularity every year throughout the country. Sweetest Day is celebrated to make someone happy. It is an occasion which offers an opportunity to remember not only the sick, aged, and orphaned, but also friends and relatives. Over 60 years ago, a Cleveland man, believing that the city’s orphans and patients too often felt forgotten, formed in the mind an idea of showing them that they were not. He did this by the distribution of small gifts. With the help of his friends and neighbors, he distributed them on a Saturday in October. In the years that followed, other residents began to participate in the event, which came to be called “Sweetest Day”. In time, the Day became an occasion for acknowledging others with a kind act or a small remembrance. Soon the idea began spreading to other cities all over the country.辽宁省实验中学 2024 届高二下学期四月份月考

People are often surprised by my fear of blood and needles. Working in a public health unit, I probably have
more daily interaction with syringes (注射器 ) than the average person. But the truth is, having my blood drawn
scares me.
When I was 9, I had an extremely high temperature. A nurse rudely stuck the needle into my arm, causing a
sharp pain. I avoided having blood taken from my body for the next years. A few months before I turned 30, my
doctor ordered a blood test as part of my physical exam. I panicked. Sensing my fear, she gently suggested I see a
psychiatrist (精神科医生). “Dr. M helped my other patients with the same fear,” she said.
When Dr. M called to set up an appointment, I hesitated. Talking about personal problems to a medically
licensed stranger was uncommon in my family. “A psychiatrist ” Mother asked. “He’ll just put you on drugs. Can’t
you get over this yourself " I almost listened. But I went to Dr. M’s clinic finally.” Phobias (恐惧症) are pretty easy
to treat,” he said. I wasn’t convinced of his words. But despite my doubts, I was running out of options.
We started with basic exposure treatment. I watched videos of blood being drawn every day. As I started to
feel more at ease with needles, Dr. M suggested drawing blood. As he gently pressed the needle into my flesh, I felt
dizzy and breathed deeply. After a few minutes, I looked at the needle. It wasn’t so bad. I didn’t pass out. “You’re
doing well,” Dr. M said.
I still find it unpleasant getting blood drawn, but thanks to several months of treatment, I’m less scared. I hate
to admit it, but Dr. M is right — phobias can be treated. Sometimes, we have to leave our comfort zone and face
our fears. And this can lead to freedom in the end.
24. What caused the author’s phobia
A. Her sensitivity to pains. B. Her bad medical experience.
C. Her anxiety about the blood test. D. Her regular contact with syringes.
25. What was the author’s mother’s attitude toward her appointment with Dr. M
A. Indifferent. B. Objective.
C. Supportive. D. Disapproving.
26. What can we know about the author’s treatment
A. It was smoother than expected. B. It eased the author’s pain totally.
C. It centered on watching videos. D. It cost the author a great deal of money.
27. Which can be a suitable title for the text
A. Walk toward what scares us B. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart
C. Ups and downs make one strong D. Nurse our mental health carefully
C
Yesterday, after a day of Zoom (视频会议软件) meetings in my living room, I stepped out for a walk, leaving
高二英语月考 第 3 页 共 8 页
my teen son bored on the couch. Bleecker Street, usually packed with people, was sprinkled with only the
occasional pedestrians. Bars and restaurants lining the street were dark. Stores with bright neon lights, doors
open, beckoned for the rare passers-by to enter. After just a week of the Covid-19 pandemic, an afternoon walk in
Greenwich Village neighborhood felt surreal(超现实的).
But then I noticed a row of daffodils (水仙) reaching for the sun in the small triangle-shaped park by Minetta
Lane. On the windows of a locked restaurant, in bright yellow paint, were the words “We love you, West
Village. Take care of each other.” My phone buzzed—a colleague, sent a picture of her newborn baby just home
from the hospital. I arrived home to find my son lying on the couch playing a video game virtually with his
friends. Life, love, play, and human connection persist, even though our world has been turned upside down.
In my welcome note to the new students in the Fall, I wrote that this year is about our college's core values of
inclusion, innovation, and impact and emphasized the power of interconnection. Today, these core values
persist, with interconnection taking on even greater significance. Our collaborative spirit has always given us an
advantage-academically, creatively, culturally, and now, remotely.
A wise person once told me that getting through a crisis is like being given a new hand of cards in the middle
of a game. We are halfway through the semester, with new hands to play, but the game hasn't changed. We will find
new ways to continue to work, teach, create, and learn. Let's also continue the informal interactions that make us a
community-the study groups, coffee dates, drop-ins just to say hello. In doing so, we will remain connected.
We will come together, from spaces around the world, to meet this new reality. This is who we are. Nothing--
not space, nor time-- can keep us from moving forward, together.
28.What can he inferred from paragraph 1
A. The Covid-19 pandemic is unstoppable.
B. The effects of the pandemic could he easily felt.
C. Nothing is the same except that the business goes slow as usual.
D. People have every reason to be worried about the future.
29.What does the writer include in paragraph 2
A. Daily routines that seemed insignificant.
B. Reminders that the world has been changed.
C. Events that people can do during the pandemic.
D. Things or people that carry symbolic meanings.
30.What does the underlined word "collaborative" mean in paragraph 3
A.Cooperative. B.Pioneering. C.Independent. D.Adventurous.
31.What is the main purpose of the text
A. To express wisdom gained from previous experience.
B. To give people some tips on how to handle a crisis.
C. To deliver an uplifting message over the pandemic.
D. To encourage people to enjoy the great outdoors.
D
Researchers at MIT and in China developed a simple, solar-powered water desalination (脱盐) system. They
have made a breakthrough in getting fresh drinking water from sea water by using sunlight.
As the research paper published in Energy & Environmental Science explains, equipment applied in this
system includes several layers of flat evaporators (蒸发器) that turn water sources into fresh water through solar
energy, as well as condensers(冷凝器)that cool the gas into the liquid. The authors of the paper are MIT students
Lenan Zhang and Lin Zhao, Professor Evelyn Wang, and nine other researchers at MIT and at Shanghai Jiao Tong
University in China.
高二英语月考 第 4 页 共 8 页
How the system uses each of the multiple stages to remove salt from the water is critical to its efficiency. The
heat released per stage will be used by the next stage. In this way, the team's device can convert the energy of
sunlight into the energy of water evaporation with an efficiency of 385 percent.
The device can be considered as a multilayer solar still(蒸馏器). The heat is absorbed by its flat panels and
then transferred to make water evaporate. The vapor then cools down and turns into liquid water on the next panel.
As the water is collected, the released heat is transferred to the next layer.
The team's 10-stage system produces pure water. Its quality is above the city drinking water standards. It also
has the highest yield compared to other similar systems, at a rate of nearly six cubic decimeter per hour for every
square meter of the solar collecting area. The system is distinguished from some others by the fact that there is no
accumulated salt to be got rid of. Most materials of the demonstration unit don't cost much and are easy to get.
Further experiments will be carried out on the device to optimize (优化) the choices of materials and test its
durability under realistic conditions. Researchers will also work on the design of the device to make it more
consumer-friendly. It is expected that the system could finally help developing regions that are short of electricity
supplies but rich in sea water and sunlight handle water crises.
32. What contributes most to the high efficiency of the device
A. The choice of materials. B. The simplicity of the structure.
C. The recycling of released heat. D. The use of multilayer equipment.
33. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4
A. What the device is for. B. What makes the device.
C. How the device works. D. How solar energy is collected.
34. What makes the device different from other systems
A. Its zero accumulation of salt. B. Its stable and high production level.
C. The low cost of the materials. D. The quality of water it produces.
35. Why will researchers carry out further experiments on the device
A. To reduce its cost. B. To check its performance in labs.
C. To make it environment-friendly. D. To make it suitable for use by consumers.

Twenty years ago, I drove a taxi. Once, I was called at 3 a.m. to pick someone up. When I arrived, the building
was completely dark except for one light in a window. Often, many drivers would just honk (按喇叭) once or twice,
wait a short minute, then drive away.
But unless a real danger, I always went to the door to find the passenger. It might be someone who needed my
assistance. Would I not want a driver to do the same if my mother or father had called for a taxi
So I walked to the door and knocked. "Just a minute," answered a weak and elderly voice. I could hear the
sound of something being dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 80s
stood before me. By her side was a small suitcase. "Would you carry my bag out to the car " she said. "I’d like a
few moments alone. Then, if you could come back and help me I’m not very strong."
I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm, and we walked slowly
toward the cab. She kept thanking me for my kindness. "It’s nothing," I told her. "I just try to treat my passengers
the way I would want my mother treated."
"Oh, you’re such a good boy," she said. When we got in the taxi, she gave me an address. Then she asked,
"Could you drive through the downtown "
"It’s not the shortest way," I answered. "I don’t mind," she said, "I’m in no hurry. I’m on my way to the
nursing home." I saw her eyes shining with tears. "I don’t have any family left," she continued. "The doctor says I
am too old to live alone."
I quietly turned off the meter (计程器 ). "What road do you want me to take " I asked. "First, take me to
Sunrise Street. That’s where I was born."
