Lead in Step I Greeting and review
T: Good morning, class!
Ss: Good morning, sir!
Ask students to recite new words and phrases learnt in last
class. Then check the answers.

Lead in by asking questions:
Do you like climbing mountains
Have you climbed any mountains
What was your feeling about it
Do you know Qomolangma
What's the height of Qomolangma
What's the weather like on it
T: Now let's learn an article about Qomolangma and the climbers.
Presentation Step Il Reading
1.Read the passage in 3a and find out comparative adjectives
and superlative adjectives:
2. Read aloud. First pronounce the new words aloud according
to the phonetic symbols by themselves, then check their pronun-
cation, and offer help if necessary. Finally read aloud the passage.
try to retell it.
3. Read the passage carefully and silently to find the specific
ideas, And finish the following tasks. (Show the Chinese meaning
and the phonetic symbols of the new words on the PPT.)
Task One: True or False
The Himalayas run along the southeastern part of China.
Qomolangma is 8,844.43 metres high.
The weather of Qomolangma is cloudy, but never snows.
The first people to reach the top were Tenzing Norgay and
Edmund Hillary on May 29,1953.
Task Two: Answer the following questions.

Why do so many people try to climb this mountain even
though it is dangerous
What does the spirit of the climbers tell us

tive. You should learn the meanings of them and their forms. Now let's review them together.

Read the article again and complete the chart in 3b.

Go over the sentences in the Grammar Focus to find out the
comparative and superlative adjectives in them. And tell which us-
age each of them belongs to.
