72.Dear Kate,
How are you recently I am delighted to receive your last letter, in which you asked about our sports meeting held last month. I am overjoyed to share with you about it since I took an active part in it.
The sports meeting was scheduled on April 14 and 15, lasting two days. We had a spectacular opening ceremony. More than 400 students performed the Ghost Walk dance together, which aroused waves of cheers and applause all the way. During the sports meeting, what impressed me most was the moment when we witnessed their love and support. One runner fell down suddenly, another one beside him stopped to pick him up, and then the two rushed to the finishing line together. All the spectators gave them a big thumb.
From the meeting, I truly have a thorough understanding of the well-famed saying that unity is power. I also get a message that nothing can defeat you as long as you stick to the end.
I wish you all the best.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

M: Good morning, everyone. Welcome to Belfast. Belfast is one of the youngest capital cities in the world and it has grown quickly. Today the city has a population of 400,000, but in the 17th century it was only a village. Then, during the 19th century, the development of industries doubled the town’s size every ten years. The city is well known for shipbuilding. It was here that the “Titanic” was built and set out on the first voyage. Here’s your brief tour around Belfast. This morning you will visit an art gallery and Belfast Cathedral. This afternoon, you will visit the zoo and City Hall. Tomorrow morning you will visit Ulster Museum and see 9,000 years of human history in Ireland. In the afternoon you will go to the Botanical Gardens. The next morning at 10:00, you will leave the hotel and fly back to London. I hope you will enjoy the two-day tour. Thanks.

Steven Stein likes to follow garbage trucks. His strange habit makes sense when you consider that he’s an environmental scientist who studies how to reduce litter, including things that fall off garbage trucks as they drive down the road. What is even more interesting is that one of Stein’s jobs is defending an industry behind the plastic shopping bags.
Americans use more than 100 billion thin film plastic bags every year. So many end up in tree branches or along highways that a growing number of cities do not allow them at checkouts(收银台). The bags are prohibited in some 90 cities in California, including Los Angeles. Eyeing these headwinds, plastic-bag makers are hiring scientists like Stein to make the case that their products are not as bad for the planet as most people assume.
Among the bag makers’ argument: many cities with bans still allow shoppers to purchase paper bags, which are easily recycled but require more energy to produce and transport. And while plastic bags may be ugly to look at, they represent a small percentage of all garbage on the ground today.
The industry has also taken aim at the product that has appeared as its replacement: reusable shopping bags. The stronger a reusable bag is, the longer its life and the more plastic-bag use it cancels out. However, longer-lasting reusable bags often require more energy to make. One study found that a cotton bag must be used at least 131 times to be better for the planet than plastic.
Environmentalists don’t dispute(质疑) these points. They hope paper bags will be banned someday too and want shoppers to use the same reusable bags for years.
24.What has Steven Stein been hired to do
A.Help increase grocery sales.
B.Recycle the waste material.
C.Stop things falling off trucks.
D.Argue for the use of plastic bags.
25.What does the word “headwinds” in paragraph 2 refer to
A.Bans on plastic bags.
B.Effects of city development.
C.Headaches caused by garbage.
D.Plastic bags hung in trees.
26.What is a disadvantage of reusable bags according to plastic-bag makers
A.They are quite expensive.
B.Replacing them can be difficult.
C.They are less strong than plastic bags.
D.Producing them requires more energy.
27.What is the best title for the text
A.Plastic, Paper or Neither
B.Industry, Pollution and Environment
C.Recycle or Throw Away
D.Garbage Collection and Waste Control

Han Tianheng picked up a carving knife at the age of 6 and never put it down. Today, the 79 year-old artist, one of China's most respected living masters of seal carving(印章雕刻), calligraphy and Chinese painting, still remembers the incident the first time he held a knife in his hand.
“I cut my thumb badly and was horrified by the bloody sight," he said, adding that his mother applied ashes because she couldn't afford to take him to a hospital. "The cut left a scar, which is still clear today."
An eye for an eye and blood for blood, the incident didn't set him back. Instead, it aroused his passion for the ancient art form. He was determined to pursue a path that would lead to a career in seal carving. Han said.
The journey of art exploration was a little bumpy for the young man in his quest for excellence, and his seal works were harshly criticized by a famous old painter.
Most would have crumbled under the criticism, not Han. It made him even more determined. After six months' hard work, he visited the painter again.
"This time, he asked me to carve a seal for him. This was positive affirmation," Han said. "Praise and criticism are what an artist should learn to handle all his life. Praise is candy and criticism is medicine. We can live without candy, but cannot live without medicine when ill."
Han rose to fame during the early 1960s famous for bird and insect seal art. Han's seals are an essential ending part on the paintings of a long list of well-established artists.
“A seal for a good painting is. like the buttons for an haute couture(高档女子时装).An experienced tailor always knows how to choose buttons that matches the whole style," Han said
His seals are full of variety — grand and solemn for Liu Haisu's paintings, light and vivid for Lu Yanshao's, graceful and gentle for Xie Zhiliu's.
"A good seal carver should keep bis own style, and at the same time go well with the painting's style." he said.
28.What influence did the incident have on Han when he was six
A.He got injured very seriously.
B.He learned how to use a knife.

C.Boring but worthwhile. D.Tough but rewarding.
30.In Han's opinion, what do an experienced tailor and a good seal carver share
A.The huge respect they earn. B.The flexibility they display at work.
C.The targeted customers they serve. D.The efforts they have to make to succeed.
31.In which section, of a newspaper does this text most probably appear
A.Education. B.Events.
C.Entertainment. D.People.

If you are a fan of medical films, then you will know there are emergency helicopter services that will take badly injured patients to hospitals long distances away. You probably also know that in these films most ambulances (救护车) are on wheels and go across city streets where there are fewer traffic jams than in real life.
But now, Israel’s Urban Aeronautics, announced that it made an agreement to work with Hatzolah Air to produce and develop its CityHawk aircraft as an emergency medical service. The CityHawk is small and can fly anywhere and land anywhere, making it able to work in cities above the traffic jam. It has no wings outside and can work even in bad weather conditions.
“We are excited to work with Hatzolah Air on the development of our CityHawk vehicle,” said Rafi Yoeli, CEO of Urban Aeronautics. “Its small size will enable it to land in the middle of a busy city street, making it a perfect fit for medical tasks by greatly reducing the time it takes to arrive on-scene, treat and transport sick or injured patients to medical facilities.”
“One of Hatzolah’s most important goals is to be somewhere within minutes. Unlike helicopters, we can land anywhere within minutes,” Yoeli said. “We will be able to improve the care of patients. They want to be equipped with the best aircraft.” Hatzolah Air’s president Eli Rowe said that he foresees (预测) the possible need for 800 CityHawks since it is a six-passenger vehicle that can carry a pilot, a patient and a team of professionals.
Urban Aeronautics is working on certification (认证) for emergency use of its CityHawk aircraft. The development of the flying ambulance is expected to take up to five years but a model will be ready sooner. A flying ambulance may be coming to a city near you soon.
32.What is the function of the first paragraph
