Universal Studios theme parks(环球影城主题公园) are known for rides(骑乘设施) and buildings based on(以...为基础) popular movies and TV shows. They turn things from these movies and shows into reality (现实). Now one of these parks is coming to China! The Universal Beijing Resort (UBR) will open on Sept 20.
UBR is the fifth Universal Studios theme park in the world. As the first of its kind in China, UBR has elements (元素) from Chinese culture(文化) to draw Chinese visitors.

“When I walked into the place, it was like I traveled back to the night market of the Tang Dynasty(朝代),” said Lu Peiyao, 26, who took part in a test of the park. It has lanterns and dragons. The restaurants look like ancient(古代的) buildings, selling noodles and Chinese desserts (点心). Even the area’s music is Chinese. Visitors can ride on huge colorful swinging (摇摆的) lanterns based on characters from the movies.
New story
The themed area Transformers Metrobase(变形金刚基地) brings a new story and art style with Chinese elements. Setting the Metrobase headquarters in Beijing, it tells the story of a 750-million-year-old Autobot who tries to save the world. Visitors will become members of an army to join him.
“To tell a famous Western story about Transformers with a Chinese background (背景), we needed to find a way that Chinese guests will understand,” said Sabrina Han, a park employee (员工). The story features lots of Chinese humor (幽默) and pop culture.
Designers around the world also carefully studied Chinese culture, such as flying fairies (飞天) and water ink paintings, and used them in the design.

Jed couldn’t keep the tears running down his face. His friend, Rob, wanted to help, but the more he talked about it, the worse Jed felt. “I know how terrible you must feel,” Rob said, “Everyone on the team thought the coach would choose you. He must be crazy to let Tom swim the breaststroke(蛙泳)!”
When the coach told him about the date and place of the state swimming meeting for boys of 15 and under, Jed was sure he would be swimming the breaststroke. He even told his family that the team couldn’t win the event without him. When the coach chose Tom Timmons, the new boy from Springfield, to swim the breaststroke, Jed could hardly believe it. Of course, if you say you won’t swim at all, the coach may change his mind and let you swim the breaststroke.” Jed left Rob and headed towards home.
