“Clothes Swapping” has become an increasingly popular activity for women in the United States. The women can give away unwanted clothing at a clothes swap event and get something different in return.
Recently about 300 women went to a clothes swap at a high school in Springfield, Virginia. It was the largest crowd ever for the area’s popular clothing-swapping group.
Daphne Steinberg was having a good day. “For anyone who knows Ann Taylor LOFT, Ann Taylor is a really nice women’s designer and I will totally wear this to work. So I love that, I love that I can equip myself for work, have a good time in doing it, not totally bankrupt myself.”
Sandy Van Dusen likes the idea that clothes are finding new homes instead of being thrown away. “Because it helps to keep the Earth green. There’s no point in my opinion in continuing to buy new clothes when we can reuse what’s already here. Give it a new home--- let somebody else love what you used to love and no longer love.”
Kim Pratt organized the clothing-swapping event in Springfield. She also organized a money-raising activity for the high school’s debate team. It is one of several ways that her group gives to charitable causes. Another is by donating all of the “un-swapped” clothing to shelters for victims of domestic violence.
“I started doing this four years ago, and we’ve been doing it for four years, getting bigger and bigger each time we have a swap.”
She used the social media website to help publicize the events. The website has helped her group grow from 30 members to 1,300. Mrs.Pratt says most of the members respect the clothing swap rules. But she says competition for desirable fashion can be strong.
“We have to tell people sometimes not to hover over the new people coming in with their clothing. As they put it out, some people tend to grab the stuff right out of their hands and it becomes like a free-for-all. We try to avoid that as much as possible.”
24.At a clothes swap what can women do
A.make some money by giving away unwanted clothing
B.buy whatever clothing they like
C.have a social gathering and make friends
D.exchange unwanted clothing for something different

C.it was the first time she had been to a clothes swap D.she saved much more money than she had expected
26.What is Paragraph 5 mainly about
A.How Kim Pratt started the clothing-swapping event. B.What Kim Pratt did with the un-swapped clothes.
C.How Kim Pratt raised money to help charitable causes. D.What Kim Pratt did to help people in need.
27.What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A.clothes swaps often go out of control in the end
B.clothes-swapping is becoming increasingly popular with women
C.Improper behavior at clothes swaps needs to be controlled

We journalists live in a new age of storytelling, with many new multimedia tools. Many young people don’t even realize it’s new. For them, it’s just normal.
This hit home for me as I was sitting with my 2-year-old grandson on a sofa over the Spring Festival holiday. I had brought a children’s book to read. It had simple words and colorful pictures — a perfect match for his age.
Picture this: my grandson sitting on my lap as I hold the book in front so he can see the pictures. As I read, he reaches out and pokes (戳) the page with his finger.
What’s up with that He just likes the pictures, I thought. Then I turned the page and continued. He poked the page even harder. I nearly dropped the book. I was confused: Is there something wrong with this kid
Then I realized what was happening. He was actually a stranger to books. His father frequently amused the boy with a tablet computer which was loaded with colorful pictures that come alive when you poke them. He thought my storybook was like that.
Sorry, kid. This book is not part of your high-tech world. It’s an outdated, lifeless thing. An antique, like your grandfather. Well, I may be old, but I’m not hopelessly challenged, digitally speaking. I edit video and produce audio. I use mobile payment. I’ve even built websites.
There’s one notable gap in my new-media experience, however: I’ve spent little time in front of a camera, since I have a face made for radio. But that didn’t stop China Daily from asking me last week to share a personal story for a video project about the integration of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei province.
Anyway, grandpa is now an internet star — two minutes of fame! I promise not to let it go to my head. But I will make sure my 2-year-old grandson sees it on his tablet.
28.What do the underlined words “hit home for me” mean in paragraph 2
A.Provided shelter for me. B.Became very clear to me.

29.Why did the kid poke the storybook
A.He took it for a tablet computer. B.He disliked the colorful pictures.

30.What does the author think of himself
A.Socially ambitious. B.Physically attractive.
C.Financially independent. D.Digitally competent.
31.What can we learn about the author as a journalist
A.He lacks experience in his job. B.He seldom appears on television.
C.He manages a video department. D.He often interviews internet stars.

Hey,you—look up! Our iPhone addictions(瘾)are destroying public space and damaging the normal social communication. The host collects phones at the door of the dinner party. At a law firm, partners keep a“no-mobile phone”policy at meetings. Each day,a good number of people gather outside NewYork’s high schools, offering, for a small price, to store students’ mobile phones during the day. In public, it’s hard to think of a place beyond the darkness of the movie theater where phone use isn’t allowed. In truly public space-on sidewalks,in parks,on buses and on trains—we move with the face down, our phones shine like flashlights,
Consider the case of a recent murder on a San Francisco train. On Sept.23,in a crowded car, a man pulled a gun from his jacket. He raised the gun, pointing it across the aisle. He drew it out several more times, once using the hand holding the gun to wipe his nose. Dozens of passengers stood and sat just feet away—but none reacted. Their eyes, focused on smartphones, didn’t lift until the gunman fired a bulletin into the back of a San Francisco State student getting off the train.
There are thousands of similar stories that together sound the alarm for a new understanding of public space. In Japan, more than a dozen people fall off railway platforms while looking at their phones each year. Some experts there have called for bans on texting. Besides, many train station notices remind people to look where they are going, and even mobile phone companies have begun to educate users about the dangers of looking at a phone while walking.
The development of information technology is separating us from our surroundings. The urban theorist Malcolm McCullough writes“Closed in cars, often in headphones, seldom in places where they can communicate in person seldom choosing face-to-face meetings, moden citzens escaped from public life.
32.The author wrote Paragraph2 to_______.
A.explain how the mobile phone destroyed public places
B.list the examples of using mobile phones
C.tell us to use mobile phones in public places
D.make us believe the great changes of using mobil ephones
33.What can we conclude from the murder case on a SanFrancisco train
A.The murder didn’t shoot the passengers on the train.
B.Many people were aware of the murderer before he shot.
C.It is no good ignoring other people around when taking trains.
D.Smartphone addictions have changed the normal social communication.
34.How did the author develop the passage
A.Giving examples. B.Listing numbers. C.Comparing facts. D.Making conclusions.
35.The author in the last paragraph suggested_______.
A.smartphones have taken little people’s attention
B.the development of information technology has a good effect on people
C.too much use of smartphones may do harm to people’s communication
D.smartphones may change modern people’s life completely

Strange Footprints in the Snow
Tom woke up and looked around. For a moment, he wasn’t sure where he was. Then he remembered. He and his sister, Lucy, were visiting Aunt Gwen. Yesterday they spent seven hours helping Aunt Gwen clean her basement. Today they would have time to play.
He looked out of the window. Fresh snow covered the ground. He could hardly wait to go outside. Tom got dressed and hurried downstairs to the kitchen.
“Hi, sleepyhead(贪睡者),” said Aunt Gwen. “Lucy has already eaten her breakfast. She’s outside.”
“That’s where I’m going as soon as I finish breakfast,” Tom said.
A short time later, he zipped up(拉上拉链)his coat, put on his boots, and walked out of the front door. The sun made the snow sparkle. He looked around. He didn’t see his sister, but he saw something else. There were strange footprints left in the snow across Aunt Gwen’s yard.
“They’re far too big to be Lucy’s. They look like they belong to a dinosaur,” Tom said. Then he added, “But that’s silly. Dinosaurs are not around anymore.”
He looked closer: The footprints were the shape of a very large oval(椭圆)with a stem. “Maybe they belong to an elephant or a hippo that escaped from the zoo,” he thought. He held his breath and listened. He didn’t hear anything.
He remembered a book he’d seen earlier on Aunt Gwen’s shelf. It was a book about animal tracks. He dashed inside to get it. The book had pictures of animals and the tracks they made. He turned the pages one by one, but none of the photos looked like the footprints in Aunt Gwen’s yard.
He stared at those footprints again. An animal that made such big tracks would have to be heavy. Its tracks should sink far down into the snow. Yet these footprints seemed to skim across(掠过)the top.
How can that be He wondered.
Tom noticed something else. The tracks never left Aunt Gwen’s yard. Instead, they turned and went around the house. “Maybe the animal is still here,” he whispered.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡相应位置作答。

Though a little scared, Tom made up his mind to find the animal. Quietly, he began following the footprints. He sneaked forward so that the animal wasn’t scared away. There was nothing in sight except the strange footprints. Suddenly, there seemed to be some strange sounds ahead. Tom stopped and listened carefully. It came from the backyard, Thrilled, mixed with a feeling of a little fright, he quickened his pace! The sounds became clearer and clearer. Holding his breath, Tom peeked around the corner of the house.
It turned out that his sister was making the sounds. She had something worn on both feet. She was walking on the snow back and forth happily. Noticing her brother, Lucy waved excitedly, “See what I found in Aunt Gwen’s basement They are old-fashioned snow shoes. Aunt Gwen said the shape helped walk steadily on the snow. And that is true!” Tom then laughed, “No wonder I couldn’t find those footprints in Aunt Gwen’s book.” There was no page for a snowshoeing sister.

M: Let’s call the bank and tell them about it. They can deal with things like this.
W: OK. Perhaps I should change my phone number.
M: I don’t think that will help. These people can always find numbers.

M: Ladies and gentlemen, your attention, please! I’ll recommend two hotels to the passengers who are going to London on this flight. The Swan Hotel is a pretty small hotel. The good thing about it is that it’s not far from the airport, which is handy when you’re traveling abroad. Of course, that means it’s not ideal for tourists who want to see a film or enjoy a concert. All 35 rooms are double rooms. Though the hotel charges a big fee, all the rooms are very comfortable. Each room has a TV and a safety box for keeping your valuables in. Every room has a broadband Internet connection, although you have to pay a small charge for that. I suppose it’s a typical business travelers’ hotel, but it is also OK if you’re just staying overnight to take an early flight. You can book rooms online. All major credit cards are accepted. You can pay in cash or by check too. The Backpacker Hotel is pretty near the center of London. They say they’re only 10 minutes’ walk from the underground station. So you can take the underground when our flight lands, although it’ll take more than an hour to get there. They’ve got 60 rooms. They don’t have an Internet connection in each room, but they have a little room which they call their business center. It has a fax machine and an Internet connection. That’s pretty good for a cheap hotel. They take cash only.
