.Dear editor,
I’m writing to tell you something about the Tree-planting activity in our school. In order to enhance student’s awareness of environment protection, our school organized the activity themed “adding green and living a low-carbon life” on 12th March.
Early in the morning, carrying different tools as arranged in advance, we walked to the hill behind our school. Under the guidance of the teachers, we began to work, some digging holes, some putting seedling into the holes and filling the holes with earth, and some watering the seedlings. We were so proud to make a small difference to our planet that we made up our minds to contribute to low-carbon lifestyle through more green actions.
Yours,
Li Hua

1.Paragraph 1 :
When the bell for the end of the school day rang, Bruce started his plan. Cold and hungry, Bruce wandered around, searching for nail bags carefully. In order to collect more money, the determined boy also picked up the bottles along the way. All the tiredness disappeared magically as every coin went to a tin, his secret “bank”. Each time he passed by, the appealing handbag in the shop would remind him what he did was worthwhile. Day by day, three weeks passed with his saving tin becoming heavier.
Paragraph 2:
Finally came the day. Bruce slipped into his room, secretly took out the tin, poured all the coins and began to count. Six dollars and 20 cents. His constant efforts paid off. Holding the tin firmly, he rushed to the shop without a second’s delay. The shopkeeper couldn’t help thumbing up for Bruce. Back home excitedly, Bruce couldn’t wait to present the handbag to his mother, and announced proudly “Happy Women’ Day”. His mother got such a big surprise that he froze there for a minute. After knowing the story behind the gift, the mother threw her arms around Bruce , eyes sparkling with tears. The love from family was the warmest sunshine through hard times.

根据上文“I am always impressed when someone recognizes their role and wants to take responsibility. That’s the first step. (当有人认识到自己的角色并想承担责任时,我总是印象深刻。这是第一步。)”可知,人们认识到自己的角色并想承担责任是第一步。根据下文“Here are several things to keep in mind: (请记住以下几点:)”可知,空格处承上启下,说明道歉并非易事。B项“But, apologizing is not always easy. (但是,道歉并不总是那么容易。)”承上启下,符合语境,故选B项。
【37题详解】
此处设空处为中心句后的第一句。根据下文“It can be helpful to reflect on how your family has handled mistakes and forgiveness while you were growing up. Has your family modeled what an apology sounds like If apologizing is new to you, validate (证实) how scary and uncomfortable it may feel to admit you were wrong. (在你成长的过程中,反思一下你的家人是如何处理错误和宽恕的,这会很有帮助。你的家人模仿过道歉的声音吗?如果道歉对你来说是新鲜事,那就验证一下承认自己错了可能会让人感到多么恐惧和不舒服。)”可知,本段从道歉的内心活动信念入手,思考联系自己成长过程家庭中的情形为例子。D项“Explore any hesitations or fears you may have. (探索你可能存在的任何犹豫或恐惧。)”承上启下,符合语境,故选D项。
【38题详解】
此处设空处为段尾句。根据本段中心句“Your intention matters. (你的意图很重要。)”以及空格前的具体设问“Why do you want to apologize Did you do something that actually deserves an apology or are you trying to keep peace (你为什么要道歉?你做了什么值得道歉的事吗?还是你试图保持平静?)”可知,本段的中心词是intention。E项“Before apologizing, pause and reflect on why you are saying sorry. (在道歉之前,停下来思考一下你为什么要道歉。)”符合本段主旨,故选E项。
【39题详解】
空格处为本段中心句。根据下文“There may not be a “perfect” time, but forcing someone to speak to you or hear you out before they are ready can feel less like an apology and more like an ambush. Sometimes, our urgency is driven by guilt or fear of losing someone, misaligning (未对准) our timing with the person’s need for some space to process. (可能没有“完美”的时间,但强迫别人在准备好之前和你说话或听你说完,感觉不像是道歉,更像是伏击。有时,我们的紧迫感是由内疚或对失去某人的恐惧、错位所驱动的,我们的时间安排与人需要一些空间来处理。)”可知,本段的中心都是道歉的时机有关。C项“You need to choose your timing wisely. (你需要明智地选择时机。)”符合本段主旨。故选C项。
【40题详解】
空格处为段中句。结合小标题“An apology is not a magic cure. (道歉并不是魔法般的快速解决办法)”以及第一句“Just because you apologized, it doesn’t mean everything will go back to normal. (仅仅因为你道歉了,并不意味着一切都会恢复正常。)”和最后一句“Have realistic expectations and make sure not to pressure someone to “go back to normal” right away. (要有现实的期望,并确保不要给某人施加压力,让他马上“恢复正常”。)”可知,道歉并不意味着立马能和好,不能给别人施加压力。F项“It will take time for the relationship to repair and perhaps shift into its new dynamic. (这种关系需要一段时间才能修复,也许还会转变为新的动力。)”承上启下,符合语境,故选F项。
56.but/yet 57.belief 58.them 59.which 60.the 61.on 62.slower 63.taken 64.have been used 65.to promote
故填but或yet。
故填them。
故填which。
根据空后的“of pills, tablets and most commonly herb teas”可知,这里表示特指的“形式”,应用定冠词。故填the。
on account of意为“因为”,为固定短语。故填on。
该从句补充完整应为even if they are taken frequently。故填taken。
根据句中的“for thousands of years”可知,这里应用现在完成时。 故填have been used。
it is up to sb. to do sth. 故填to promote。

My hands were shaking uncontrollably. I tried incredibly hard to focus on the words that I spent hours putting down on paper. I tried to conquer my fear of speaking in public on numerous occasions throughout my life. During college and at my first few jobs, I would get ridiculously nervous when I had to give a presentation or lead a meeting. Public speaking had been my nemesis for as long as I could remember.
Then in my mid-thirties, I decided to join the public speaking group Toastmasters. At every meeting, we were rated and forced to compete with other speakers for an award. You would think that I would walk away from these experiences as a polished speaker, but nothing seemed to work.
It wasn’t until recently, when science and scientific institutions were being attacked for unfair reasons during the pandemic, that I decided I must speak out. Science has made this country a place where dreams come true — this is why we all need to protect science. In addition, as a science writer, I try to get readers to understand how science is related to their daily lives.
So I ended up on that frightening stage on that sunny Saturday in April — Earth Day. Despite the body shakes and fear, I persevered. That day, I looked out into the crowd of like-minded science supporters and I felt comfort.
Reaching that milestone goal of getting through a speech truly changed me. At almost forty, I learned that passion can set off a flame in my heart to do things I never dreamed possible. The darkness that led to my speech is sure to lead to new opportunities and adventures.

26.What made the author want to speak out on Earth Day
A.It was science that made his dreams come true.
B.It was a good chance to learn science.
C.It was a project organized by Toastmasters.
D.He couldn’t have people attacking his fellow scientists.
27.What lesson did the author draw from his successful speech
A.Frustration can be a stepping stone to success.
B.Love motivates us to achieve the unachievable.
C.Science can lead us to make wonderful changes.

Gleaning (拾穗,拾遗) is not a new concept. It dates back to ancient times, when farmers would leave the edges of their fields unharvested or leave produce looking imperfect for the poor which was either to rot in the field, or was rolled over.
Gleaning offers fresh, healthy food to food insecure people. That is where gleaners come in. Gleaning addresses farm waste and food poverty by providing free healthy food donated straight from farm to table. Interest in gleaning is growing; in 2017,there were five gleaning groups in the UK, while today there are 25.
Holly Whitelaw, an organizer for the Cornwall Gleaning Network, reported to Positive.News that her volunteers send around 300 boxes a week to food banks and community kitchens in her area. The boxes come complete with recipe (食谱) ideas and the kitchens love the fact that this fresh food is so highly nutritious.
Gleaners find the work very fulfilling. “It’s a really jolly atmosphere,” Whitelaw told Positive. News.”Any time I go gleaning, I am lifted up. For the volunteers, it’s so good for mental health, getting outside and doing something practical that’s good for the needy people.”
Adding technology to this age-old practice, a digital map of the 734 fruit trees available for gleaning was provided. This produce is going to the Orcas Island Food Bank which has witnessed a 227 percent increase in demand since the pandemic (疫情), with numbers still on the rise.
To assist the increasing amount of hungry people, produce is being rescued from fields around the world. A prime example of a successful organization is Leket Israel. In 2021, Leket rescued 40,758,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables from farmers’ fields and packing houses.
Hopes are that awareness will continue to grow. To make this happen, more unions need to be established with farmers and more people need to volunteer their time to help. This form of helping may soon become as commonplace as local charity walks, predicts Positive.News.

There’s a new AI bot: ChatGPT, and you’d better pay attention, even if you aren’t into artificial intelligence. The tool is an AI chatbot system that OpenAI released in November 2022 to show off and test what a very large, powerful AI system can achieve.
ChatGPT remembers the thread of your dialogue, using previous questions and answers to inform its next responses. It derives its answers from huge volumes of information on the Internet. ChatGPT is built on top of the OpenAI GPT-3 family of large language models and is fine-tuned (a method of transfer learning) using both supervised and reinforcement learning
You can ask ChatGPT anything, like explaining physics, asking for birthday party ideas and getting programming help. Perhaps it’s not smart enough to replace all humans yet, but it can be creative, and its answers can sound downright authoritative. A few days after its launch, more than 1 million people were trying out ChatGPT. UBS analyst Lloyd Walmsley estimated in February 2023 that ChatGPT reached 100 million monthly users in January, accomplishing in 2 months what took TikTok about 9 months and Instagram two and a half years.
ChatGPT is free to use at the moment because it is still in its research phase. But when too many people hop onto the server, it overloads and can’t process your request. It just means you should try visiting the site at a later time when fewer people are trying to access it. If you want to skip the wait and have reliable access, there is an option for you. As of Feb. 1, 2023, OpenAI has aChatGPT pro plan, ChatGPT Plus, which allows users to have general access even during peak times. This service does come at a cost of $20/month.
However, ChatGPT can not replace Google. ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence robot that provides solutions to your questions, but Google is a search engine in which you can search for as much information as possible. ChatGPT has limited knowledge due to its programming but Google has unlimited knowledge which is updated every day.
32.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about ChatGPT
A.Its working theory. B.Its language model.
C.Its design inspiration. D.Its development process.
33.Why does the author list figures in paragraph 3
A.To show the popularity of ChatGPT.
B.To stress the high cost of inventing ChatGPT.
C.To present the creativity of artificial intelligence.
D.To prove the necessity of developing tools for chatting online.
34.What is ChatGPT Plus intended for
A.Guiding users to experience free services.
B.Giving users priority access during peak hours
C.Allowing net surfers to skip advertisements.
D.Helping researchers detect the failure of the system.
35.What is a limitation of ChatGPT compared with Google
A.It may provide replies unrelated to the questions.
B.It can only update information at a fixed time
C.It needs longer to provide solutions.
D.It operates based on limited data.

A cool day evening during the Depression, Bruce, a boy of 12, saw a beautiful handbag in a shop. The price of it was 6 dollars, which was unaffordable for him. It could support his family for a week.
Bruce couldn’t ask his parents for the money, for there was no spare money they could save under the terrible economic situation.
Hesitantly, he opened the door of the shop and entered it. Standing in his shabby coat and worn-out shoes, he whispered to the shopkeeper what he wanted. In a flash, he added firmly, I don’t have enough money now, but can you hold it for three weeks I am sure to afford it then as a gift for my mother for the coming Women’ Day.
“I will try,” the shopkeeper smiled. “People here don’t usually have that kind of money to spend on things. I could keep it for you. Bruce bowed to the shopkeeper with a clear expression of gratitude and walked out confidently. He was bound to raise enough money and not tell anybody, for he thought Mom would get a surprise. On turning the corner, he heard the sound of hammering used nail bags. Then a good idea struck him that he could raise money by selling the used bags. People built their own houses, using nail bought in bags from a local factory.
