You don’t need to be an astronomer with a giant telescope to enjoy a simple but spellbinding activity: stargazing. ___6___ It’s so interesting to discover what’s going on. With a bit of practice, and know-how from books and websites, stargazers can spot particular stars and also groups of stars.
There is plenty to take in using just your eyes but some people use a telescope for a more detailed look. For the best results, choose a clear night when the moon is not very bright. ___7___
It can be harder to see the stars in towns and cities. It is because of light pollution. The night sky is brightened by light from street lamps, shops and car headlights. The best places for stargazing are open, hilly areas or the coast. ___8___ It is our home galaxy stretching across the night sky and is best seen in summer and fall evening skies. If the full moon is up, it will be hard to see. Try going for a night hike instead! Let your eyes adjust to the moonlight and keep your flashlight turned off.
___9___ That is camping in a national park under a star-filled sky. Many national parks offer various night sky programs, from telescope astronomy events to full moon walks with rangers. Besides, national parks are also great places to know about the animals that are awake at night and asleep during the day. Sit quietly and listen for these creatures.
When you head out at night, always go with an adult. Dress warmly and take a blanket or a chair to sit on, plus a hot drink to warm you up. Carrying too much credit card debt comes with a number of risks — thousands of dollars in interest payments, delayed financial goals, and possible even damage to your credit score.___11___ You should maintain spending and payment habits that help you avoid getting yourself in over your head.
Build a Safety Net. Without access to emergency savings, a credit card may be your only option to save you from a major car repair, medical bill, or other unexpected expense. While it takes time to build the recommended savings large enough to cover six months of living expenses, starting with a small amount like $500 or $1,000 can help you take care of those little expenses that pop up. ___12___.
Stick to What You Can Afford.___13___While you might rationalize that you can easily pay over time, promising your future income is risky. A better habit: save up for things you want rather than putting them on credit and only swipe your credit card for purchases you can afford to repay right away.
Avoid Unnecessary Balance Transfers. Transferring a balance from a high interest rate credit card to one with a lower interest rate is a smart move to pay off your balance at a lower cost. ___14___
Always Pay on Time. Staying on track with your credit card payments is one of the best ways to avoid credit card debt. Once you miss a payment, your next payment due will be much higher. ___15___It gets tougher to catch up, puts a strain on your budget, and tempts you to use your credit cards to make ends meet.
A.Still, credit card debt can be avoided.
B.Pay Your Full Balance Each Month.
C.You can build your emergency fund steadily over time.
D.Then you’ll have to make two payments plus pay the late fee.
E.Access to credit can be tempting when you spot items you want.
F.However, doing so, for example, to avoid a payment due date, can backfire.
G.Understanding features of your credit card can help you avoid credit card debt.
An afternoon nap could improve your cognitive abilities
Taking an afternoon snooze could keep your brain sharp, a new study has said.
Adults aged 60 and older who took afternoon naps showed signs of better mental agility (敏捷) compared to those who didn’t nap, according to a study published in General Psychiatry earlier this week.
Researchers analyzed napping habits in 2,214 older Chinese people and measured their cognitive (认知的) abilities using several cognitive tests.
The participants were divided into two categories.____16____. The study defined naps as a period of sleep taken after lunch lasting between five minutes and two hours.
Nappers scored higher
Participants took the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Beijing version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, both of which test for memory, language and other cognitive abilities.____17____, said lead study author Cai Han, geriatric psychiatrist .
In every category the analysis was listed in the study. Nappers tested statistically higher on average compared to their non-napping counterparts.
“This study found that a proper nap is beneficial to the maintenance of cognitive function.____18____.” Han said.
Many factors can affect sleep
____19____, said Dr. David Neubauer, associate professor in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Daily routines, medication use, environmental factors, lifestyle choices and sleep disorders can all play a role in how frequently someone takes a nap, he said.
The study didn’t gather specific data on the length of time each participant took a nap within the five-minute-to-two-hour range or what time in the afternoon they slept.
Here’s how to power nap
Neubauer recommended taking a shorter “power nap” of up to 20 minutes to decrease the chances of transitioning into slow-wave sleep.____20____.
Naps should also be taken earlier in the afternoon to limit their possible negative impact on the following night’s sleep, he said.
A.Thus we encourage the elderly to take a proper nap.
B.Sleeping behaviors can be affected by a multitude of factors.
C.They were those who took regular naps and those who didn’t.
D.Napping must be a healthy part of an older adult’s day.
E.It makes people feel groggy (昏沉的) when they wake up.
F.Results showed that napping positively affected older adults’ mental abilities.
G.Older individuals who want to preserve their cognitive functioning should prioritize nightmare sleep.

It's not just some people who made a case for it as a prime creativity booster. 以及后文“A Stanford University study found that participants were 81 percent more creative when walking as opposed to sitting. According to the study, walking outside—versus on a treadmill—produces the most novel and highest quality analogies in participants who walked and then sat down to do creative work.(斯坦福大学的一项研究发现,参与者走路时的创造力比坐着时高出81%。 与F选项“Researchers have traced connections between walking and generating ideas.
28.根据上文“The movement aspect of walking is obviously key. You’ve probably heard the phrase “Exercise your creativity”, which refers to the brain as muscle. Our creative mindset is stimulated by physical movement. 以及后文“Just by going outside, you are stepping out of your habitual surroundings and your comfort zone, which is necessary if you want to open your mind to new possibilities. 可知,上文提到待在室内无法培养创造力,后文则建议走出去,可知本句属于过渡句,与C选项“Without energy, you can’t wonder or create.
30.根据后文“Engage more closely with your surroundings for the next four weeks. Turn off your phone and give yourself the chance to be present in the world, to hear conversations and natural sounds, to notice the way people move. Walk not just for exercise. 与D选项“So why not set a creativity goal that starts with walking (那么为什么不从步行开始设定一个创造力目标呢 )”上下文一致,故选D项。

36.根据前句“Some gardeners like to start the growing season early.(一些园丁喜欢提前开始生长季节。)” F“They can do this by growing plants from seed inside their home.(他们可以在家里用种子种植植物。)”
37.此处是本段的主题句,根据后文“You can use things like recycled yogurt(酸奶)or egg containers. Each container should have a hole in the bottom for water to flow through.(你可以使用回收的酸奶或鸡蛋容器。 G“While you are waiting, find and prepare your growing containers.
38.根据后句“It depends on the seed kind and size. B“Place one to four seeds in each container.
39.根据后句“Costly lamps are not necessary.(昂贵的灯具是不必要的。)” A“Ordinary lights will work. 故选A。
40.根据句“If several seedlings come up in each container, cut the weakest at the soil line using small scissors.( 如果每个容器中长出了几棵幼苗, 用小剪刀在土壤线处剪掉最弱的一棵。)” D“The aim is to keep only one strong-looking plant.

41.根据上文“With climate change continuing to worsen, our situation is beginning to feel increasingly serious.(随着气候变化的持续恶化,我们的情况开始变得越来越严重)”可知,气候问题持续恶化,人类的情况开始变得越来越严重。 结合下文“Techno-optimism is one of the greatest misconceptions when it comes to solutions to ensure our future. It can be defined as a belief that future technologies will solve all of our current problems.(当谈到确保我们未来的解决方案时,技术乐观主义是最大的误解之一。 B项“The modern world’s simple solution is technology.(现代世界的简单解决方案就是技术)”符合题意。故选B。
根据上文“Techno-optimism is one of the greatest misconceptions when it comes to solutions to ensure our future. It can be defined as a belief that future technologies will solve all of our current problems. This definition reinforces (强化) the idea that there’s no reason to panic or change our current energy-intensive lifestyle. All society needs to do is look to green technology to work its magic.(当谈到确保我们未来的解决方案时,技术乐观主义是最大的误解之一。 E项“Unfortunately, this is an incredibly dangerous opinion to hold.(不幸的是,这是一个极其危险的观点)”符合题意。故选E。
43.根据上文“One of the best examples of this optimistic misconception is the electric car. Despite being highly regarded as an eco-friendly way to get around, electric cars are not the end for the future of transport. Batteries in electric cars use chemical elements which we could be seeing a shortage of by the midcentury.(电动汽车就是这种乐观误解的最好例子之一。 C项“Moreover, they are more energy intensive to produce.(此外,它们的生产更耗能)”符合题意。故选C。
根据下文“Investing in public transportation and moving away from individually owned vehicles. Producing fewer cars, Improving recycling practices of old batteries. The solutions we seek should not be rooted in new technology, but be about changing the way our society functions.(投资公共交通,远离个人拥有的车辆。 A项“So where should we look for answers instead (那么,我们应该在哪里寻找答案呢?)” 故选A。
45.根据上文“Techno-optimism puts too much emphasis on technology and not enough on what we can do right this minute. Unfortunately, people seem to like the picture that techno-optimism paints.(技术乐观主义过于强调技术,而对我们现在能做的事情却不够重视。不幸的是,人们似乎喜欢技术乐观主义所描绘的画面)”和下文“It is important to understand that the problem begins when we see those technologies as a way to make our current lifestyles eco-friendly. G项“Nevertheless, the truth is, we need a widespread change in our lifestyles.(然而,事实是,我们需要广泛改变我们的生活方式)”符合题意。

46.根据上文“Settling down with a great novel enables you to consider ideas that might have never crossed your mind had you not chosen it in the first place.(静下心来读一本伟大的小说能让你思考一些想法,如果你一开始没有选择它,这些想法可能永远不会出现在你的脑海里)”以及后文“If you have the urge and are curious about how to start a book club, it’s easier than you might think.(如果你有这种冲动,并且对如何开始一个读书俱乐部感到好奇,这比你想象的要容易得多)”可知,本句是在说明后文提到的“这种冲动”的具体内容:想和别人讨论你读过的东西。
47.根据上文“First, find members. Reach out to your existing reading-loving friends and post a notice in your local library or bookstore. If you’re open to a more digital-friendly approach, put the word out about your new club via Twitter or Facebook.(首先,寻找成员。
48.根据上文“Will your time together be spent largely focusing on the novel at hand (你们在一起的时间主要集中在手头的小说上吗?)”以及后文“While enjoying stimulating non-book conversation over coffee and snacks is in no way ill-advised, not everyone who signs up for a book club is willing to reject their novel for a cup.(边喝咖啡边吃零食,享受与书本无关的刺激对话并非不明智,但并不是每个参加读书俱乐部的人都愿意为了一杯咖啡而放弃自己的小说)”可知,后文提到了边喝咖啡边吃零食,可推测本句与上文并列,都是设问句,故E选项“茶点最终会是最重要的吗?”
49.根据后文“Books that work really well are the ones that help you reflect on self. They have lots of entry points for people so they probably have a good setting. Also, there’s great character development. Select something with the criteria, and you can please all kinds of readers.(真正有用的书是那些能帮助你反思自我的书。
50.根据上文“As far as how often you meet, that schedule is up to your members to determine what’s realistic-plus how long it will take to complete the book. As for location, meeting up at your home is always an option.(至于你多久见面一次,这个时间表由你的成员决定什么是现实的,再加上完成这本书需要多长时间。至于地点,在家里见面总是一个不错的选择)”以及后文“Meeting at a public space like a bar can ease the pressure of entertaining.(在酒吧这样的公共场所见面可以缓解娱乐的压力)”可知,本句是在针对上文提到的在家见面所提出的建议。
