At 10: 35 am the doorbell rang and my father stood outside the door smiling, accompanied by a young man.
I hugged my father tightly and affectionately.
Enormously relieved, the young man told me that my father had lost his way while returning home after the morning walk.
The only description he could provide was that my house was near the park and that the house was made of red bricks.
With much effort, and in almost two hours searching, the young man was able to locate my house.
He expressed great relief at getting my father home.
After knowing what had happened, I showed my appreciation of his kindness.
I invited him inside to join us for a cup of tea.
The man refused politely and said sincerely that he felt so delighted to have brought my father safely home to me that he did not require further thanks.
Then he drove the car away without even sharing his name and I have not seen him again.
This kind act has a lasting influence on me.
I always give others a helping hand if possible even so many years later.
He lived with my elder brother in Lahore most of the time and for ten years had stuck to his habit of going for an hour--long morning walk to keep fit.
Not spotting him anywhere, I went to the police station to report my father’s disappearance.
Since it was only 10 am, I drove back to the park, in the hope of discovering some trace but in vain.
Totally at a loss for what to do next, I returned home and waited impatiently walking back and forth in the house.
Then came the turn for my choir.
Extremely confident, they mounted on the stage as we rehearsed.
“Smile!” I mouthed. I took a deep breath and we began.
Having performed masterfully, we finished our three songs and I wanted to scream at the top of my lungs, “YOU DID IT!”
What delighted me more was that they fully enjoyed their performance without getting panicked, winning storms of cheers and applause.
My heart swelled with pride for this little group as they realized their dream with the same bravery they had shown from day one.
After all the choirs had performed we waited in our assigned room for the results.
Sensing their worries about the group size I reassured them: it was the performance rather than the size that mattered and most importantly we enjoyed it.
Time ticking, kids waited anxiously. Eventually there came the news that we got the highest marks of all.
All kids were screaming and embracing.
Warm tears wetting my cheeks, I stood frozen, staring at the list in disbelief.
It was a blessing that I was surrounded by kids who had a dream who refused to give up, who taught me never to doubt the possibility of success for any student ever again.
Quite on the contrary, more determined, they begged and insisted every day.
Make full preparations for each class and follow my instructions absolutely.
