Nuclear power's danger to health, safety, and even life itself can be summed up in one word: radiation(辐射).
Nuclear radiation has a certain mystery about it, partly because it cannot be found by human senses. It can't be seen or heard, or touched or tasted, even though it may be all around us. There are other things like that. For example, radio waves are all around us but we can't detect them, sense them, without a radio receiver. Similarly, we can't sense radioactivity without a radiation detector. But unlike common radio waves, nuclear radiation is not harmless to human beings and other living things.
At very high levels, radiation can kill an animal or human being completely by killing masses(块;团)of cells in vital(=very important)organs. But even the lowest level of radiation can do serious damage. There is no level of radiation that is completely safe. If the radiation does not hit anything important, the damage may not be significant. This is the case when only a few cells are hit, and if they are killed completely, your body will replace the dead cells with healthy ones. But if the few cells are only damaged, and if they reproduce themselves, you may be in trouble. They reproduce themselves in a deformed(畸形)way. They can grow into cancer. Sometimes this does not show up for many years.
This is another reason for some of the mystery about nuclear radiation. Serious damage can be done without the victim being aware at the time that damage has occurred. A person can feel fine, then die of cancer five, ten, or twenty years later as a result. Or a child can be born weak or easy to have serious illness as a result of radiation absorbed(吸收)by its grandparents.
Radiation can hurt us. We must know the truth.
1.Nuclear radiation has a certain mystery because____________.
A.people can't feel it B.people know nothing about it
C.nuclear radiation isn't harmful to people D.people haven't any detectors

A.We can't detect radioactivity even with modern equipment.
B.Only radiation at very high levels can kill an animal or human being.
C.If a few cells are only damaged, healthy cells will take the place of dead ones.
D.Radiation is harmful no matter what level it is.
3.The word "significant" in paragraph 3 has the similar meaning with ____________.
A.important B.meaningful C.harmful D.obvious
4.Radiation can hurt us in that it can__________.
A.affect the healthy growth of our offspring(后代) B.damage cells which grow into cancer years later
C.kill large number of cells in main organs so as to cause death immediately D.all of the above
5.What's the author's main purpose in writing this passage
A.Emphasizing the importance of protection of radiation. B.Solving the mystery about radiation.
C.Discussing the cause of cancer. D.Introducing the nuclear power.
6.The best title for this passage can be________.
A.Nuclear radiation in our life B.Illness in our life
C.How to find Nuclear radiation D.Serious damage in our life

All children should grow up happily and healthily. However, some children are facing or will face abuse(虐待)in their lives. They’ll be hurt or touched on private(私人的) parts of their body. We call these unsafe touches and they are abuse. Unsafe touches are scary and confusing(迷惑的)because they can seem playful or gentle. Even if it can be very hard to talk about it for children who experience unsafe touches from a friend or family member, we have to talk about it.
The following six rules are “The Protect Yourself Rules” created by Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center Foundation. Children can use these rules to know unsafe situations when they see them and to know how to get away if they need it.
Safe Touch, Unsafe Touch
We know safe touches are hugs from our family or high-fives with our friends. But unsafe touches are touches on private parts of your body. No one should ever touch you on your part of body that are covered by your bathing suit or ask you to touch their private parts. However, it is okay for a doctor to touch you on your private parts when giving you a check-up when your mom or dad is in the room.
Tell a Grown-up
If someone gives you an unsafe touch, they might want you to keep it a secret. They might make you promise or give you presents to keep you from telling. But you always have to tell. You can tell your parents or another grown-up what has happened. It’s never your fault if someone touches you like this. Keep telling until someone helps you and makes sure the unsafe touches never happen again.
Stranger Safety
A stranger is a person you don’t know. Most strangers are usually nice and friendly. We don’t have to be afraid of them but we should always make smart choices around the people we don’t know. Being smart means don’t be alone with strangers or go anywhere with them even if they seem nice.
Doesn’t Matter Who It Is
Besides strangers, we should protect ourselves from any potential abuse. Even if someone may be your friend, your private parts should never be touched. But, also keep in mind that most people are good and we shouldn’t be afraid of people around us with an uneasy psychology.
Hitting Is Wrong
If someone hits you, or you see someone is being hurt, remember to tell another grown-up. Telling teachers and asking for their help is also a good choice.
Shout, Run, Tell
If anyone makes you feel unsafe, shout “stop!” or “don’t touch me!” loudly and clearly. It doesn’t matter who it is or where you are. Shout at them to stop, run away and tell the adults you trust. Don’t be scared. Shout as loud as you can. The more people that hear you, the better.
We hope children abuse never happens, but if someone hurts you, remember these six rules and use them to protect yourself.
Children’s self-protection
At present All children should grow up happily and healthily but some children are facing or will face abuse in their lives. For children who have experienced the abuse, it is very hard to talk about, which makes the situation ____1____.
____2____ To help more children know unsafe situations and protect themselves, Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center Foundation created “The Protect Yourself Rules”.
The Protect Yourself Rules Safe Touch, Unsafe Touch It’s hard to tell the ____3____ between safe touches and unsafe touches because some unsafe touches seem to be playful or gentle. Hugs from family, high-fives with friends and doctor’s check-up can be ____4____ as safe touches. Unsafe touches mean touches on private parts that are covered by bathing suit. Tell a Grown-up People who give you an unsafe touch might ask you to keep it a secret by ____5____ you presents. But you have to keep telling until someone helps you and makes sure that the unsafe touches never happen a ____6____ time. Stranger Safety We should always make smart choices around ____7____ and never be alone with them or go anywhere with them even if they seem nice. Doesn’t Matter Who It Is We should protect ourselves from any potential abuse. But, also ____8____ that most people are good and we should live with an easy psychology. Hitting Is Wrong If someone hits you, or you see someone is being hurt, remember to tell the grown-ups. Shout, Run, Tell If anyone makes you feel unsafe, shout in a ____9____ and clear voice, run away and tell the adults you ____10____ in. The more people that hear you, the better.

Good morning, my dear teachers and friends! It is my great honor to make a speech here. I will graduate from my school soon. It’s hard to say farewell to all of you.
During the past three years, I realize that we should take study seriously. For myself, I always work hard in class. I listen to teachers carefully and take notes. I finish homework on time. My classmates often help with my schoolwork. With their help, I overcome lots of difficulties and become much better. I want to say thank you to all the people who have helped me.
This summer holiday, I plan to visit my grandparents in another city. And in the future, I’ll keep on studying hard and stick to my dream. I will never give up on my new journey.
That’s all for my speech. Thank you for listening!
