Most biology textbooks will tell you that the human body has 206 bones. However, this might not always be true. The fabella( 豆骨),a small bone behind the knee, seems to have made a strange comeback. Scientists used to think it had been lost to evolution(进化).
The 55- mm-long bone used to be mostly useless. Scientists call the bone“the appendix(阑尾) of the skeleton”. But the bone is now three times more common than it was 100 years ago. Two out of every five people have this bone, according to a study from Imperial College London.
Scientists believe it has returned due to changes in our diets, which, over time, have made us taller and heavier. our knees are therefore under much greater pressure, causing us to grow a bone to relieve the pressure.
However, this might not be a positive kind of evolution. Having the bone could mean an increased risk of osteoarthritis(骨关节炎),according to the researchers. People with osteoarthritis of the knee are twice as likely to have a fabella than people without osteoarthritis. But. researchers say, it can't be said yet that the bone actually causes the disease.
“We hope that by studying it, we can help people with the pain of osteoarthritis, and figure out if people with fabellas should have them removed,”lead researcher Michael Berthaume said to the Daily Mail.
However, whether you have the bone or not, you need to pay attention to your knees. You can strengthen your leg muscles and exercise more in order to lessen the risk of knee pain later in life, according to Harvard Health Publishing.
5.( )Which of the following is TRUE of the fabella
A. It is one of the human body' s 206 bones. B. Not everyone has it.
C. It is 55 cm long. D.It is behind the eyes.
6.( )Why do scientists call the fabella“the appendix of the skeleton"
A. Because it was mostly useless. B. Because it is a positive form of evolution.
C. Because it is in a strange position. D. Because it looks like an appendix.
7.( )According to the passage, the return of the fabella may help
A. change our eating habits B. make us grow taller and heavier
C. help us fight serious diseases D. relieve pressure in our knees
8.( )What do we know from the passage
A.The return of the fabella is a result of evolution.
B.The fabella disappeared due to evolution 100 years ago.
C. People who have a fabella will all suffer from osteoarthritis.
D. Scientists suggest that people remove the fabella to avoid future osteoarthritis.

As we know, bike-sharing is popular in China, more and more people choose bike riding instead of driving. The bikes have GPS or Bluetooth on them, and they can be easily unlocked with a smart phone and left anywhere in public. Bike-sharing allows people to borrow a bike from one place and return it at another place easily.
In some cities, we can see many people riding this kind of sharing-bikes. It’s very easy to use the bikes if you have a smart phone. First, you have to download such an APP on your smart phone. Then what you need to do is to find a nearest bike through the APP, scan(扫描) the QR code on the bike or connect your phone with the bike over a Bluetooth wireless connection(无线蓝牙连接). You will find the bike can be unlocked itself. Then you can enjoy your trip. What's more, the greatest advantage of bike-sharing is that you can easily find one and never worry about where to park it. The cost of riding depends on(取决于) the time that you spend. Usually, every hour you ride, you need to pay one yuan. It doesn't cost so much, does it
At the same time, some people park the bikes in their own homes. Besides, some people don’t take good care of the bikes. Now service companies are trying to solve the problem like being stolen(被偷).
Technology and science have changed our social lifestyles. We have to say bike-sharing makes our life easier. And we also hope that people can not only enjoy it but also put it to good use.

In 1993 the UN decided that March 22nd is the World Water Day. On this day every year, countries around the world hold events to educate people about the problems of dirty water and that clean water is something everyone must have around the world.
The human body is 60% of water and we need to drink lots of water to be healthy. We also need water for cooking. We have toilets in our houses and when we brush our teeth or have a shower, we use the bathroom. Farmers, who produce the food we eat, use water to make the plants grow.
We are lucky enough to have clean water whenever ( 无 论 何 时 ) we want, but this is not the case for many
people around the world. Do you know the fact that around 750 million people do not have clean water to drink And do you know that 2.5 billion people do not have clean toilets That’s about 1 in 3 people in the world.
If we drink dirty water or we can’t wash our hands when we go to the toilet, it is easy to catch diseases from the bacteria (细菌) and become ill. Every year over 500,000 children die from diarrhoea (腹泻) from dirty water. In some countries children walk many kilometers every day to get water and sometimes the water isn’t even clean! If children walk many hours a day to get water, they can’t go to school.
For World Water Day some people in the UK walk, run or cycle 10 km, others climb mountains or even jump from a plane to the ground. At one school children walk 6 km with 6 liters of water so they can see how it feels to walk a long distance (距离) carrying heavy bottles of water. People give them money for doing these things and all the money helps get clean water to as many people as possible around the world.

Nowadays, many people in China and Japan are racing against time. They put a lot of value in “being on time”. However, in some countries of the world, people have different opinions on “being on time”.
Germany
Thanks to its industrial past, in Germany you are expected to arrive at least ten minutes earlier for any planned meeting. In Germany, being on time is risky enough because your hosts will probably already be there waiting, wondering how on earth you could be so stupid. What will you do if anything unexpected happens, like heavy traffic or a sudden rain So remember to arrive early in Germany.
Saudi Arabia
Some countries care little about time and Saudi Arabia is one of them. It’s because of their long history of desert living where time is not the first thing to think about. It could be that it’s too hot to do anything on time. So don’t expect them to be on time. Moreover, looking at your watch during an event is even considered as bad manners. So don’t get angry with them, either.
Ghana
Most meeting times can be changed, even if an exact time is given, Ghanaians are very easygoing. They think that if everyone is late, then no one is late. After all, what can’t be done today can get done tomorrow. If you find it difficult to deal with, prepare to be unhappy.
Russia
Patience is considered a very important quality in Russian culture but being on time is not. When doing business in Russia, do be on time. Otherwise, it will be considered disrespectful. But Russians won’t hold themselves to the same standard. So, again, patience can be key.
