The Little Match Girl
Now let’s read the story together and please keep the red parts in mind.
It was snowing and very cold outside. A little girl was walking in the street, selling matches.
She wished all her matches sold but nobody bought a single one.
She looked very worried because there were lots of matches left.
She didn’t wear any shoes because she had her shoes lost .
She was so cold that she sat in a corner with her legs huddled up.
She lit a match and saw a Christmas tree decorated very beautifully.
The lighted candles were burning brightly and she seemed very delighted.
She lit another one and saw her grandmother. She asked her grandmother to take her away.
The next day, people saw the girl frozen to death. What a poor girl !
Now let’s read it again and check whether you remember the red part or not.

From the red parts in the story, we can know Past Participles can be used as the Attributive and Object complement.
一、过去分词做定语
1.过去分词做定语时的意义
通常及物动词的过去分词作定语强调被动、完成或只强调被动;不及物动词的过去分词作定语,只表示完成。
Her daughter brought up by me has begun to work. (vt短语;被动、完成)
The wind swept the fallen leaves. (vi;完成)
a _______ (close) door
a ______ (break) window
a _______ (pollute) river
单个的过去分词用作定语通常置于其所修饰的名词之 _____,做前置定语。
2.过去分词作定语时的位置
closed
broken
polluted

过去分词短语用作定语时,一般置于其所修饰的名词之_____,做后置定语其作用相当于定语从句。
He is a teacher respected by his students.
他是一位受学生尊敬的老师。
He is a teacher who is respected by his students.

二、过去分词做宾语补足语
过去分词和宾语之间的关系
vt的过去分词作宾补时表示该动词与宾语之间为逻辑上的动宾关系。
I had my watch repaird.
少数不及物动词(如fall、go、change等)的过去分词作宾补时仅表示动作的完成。
When she woke up,she found the world changed.
seat、hide、dress等的过去分词作宾补时一般表示宾语的状态,不表示被动或完成。
When I came in,I found the boy hidden behind the door.
需用过去分词作宾语补足语的五种情况
1.用在表状态的动词keep、leave等后面,构 成“keep/leave+n./pron.+过去分词形式”。
那就是大自然—总是是我们震惊。
But that’s how nature is — always leaving us astonished.
我大声说话为了让别人能听到。
I speak loudly to make myself heard.
2.使役动词get, have, make等后面, 构成
“have/get make +n./pron.+过去分词”形式
3.用在感官动词或表示心理状态的动词see,hear,smell,feel等后,
构成“see/hear . . .+n./pron. + 过去分词”形式。
看到孩子在幼儿园里被照顾的好我很高兴。
I was glad to see the child well taken care of in the kindergarten.
4.用在表示“爱恨、意愿”等的动词like、hate、want、wish等后面,构成“like/hate . . . +n./pron.+ 过去分词形式。
我希望这个问题能在会议上被解决。
I wish the problem settled at the meeting.
5. “with+宾语+过去分词”结构中,宾语与过去分词在逻辑上存在被动关系。
工作被做完了,她感到很高兴。
With the work done, she felt very happy.
