参考范文:
Dear John,
I’m delighted to receive your letter, in which you expressed eagerness for some information about the Earthquake Prevention and Disaster Reduction Campaign held in our school. I’m glad to share it with you.
As scheduled, the activity took place last Friday. First, all the teachers and students attended a lecture to get a good knowledge of earthquake. During the lecture, the lecturer impressed on us the damage an earthquake can cause and how to protect ourselves when an earthquake happens through videos and pictures. After that, an earthquake prevention drill was conducted.
I’ve learned a lot from this activity. It is of great significance for us to master some self-help measures.
Yours,
Li Hua

M: Jenny, this one is from Jack. It’s small. I think it’s a book.
W: No, it’s not. It’s a lovely music box.

Text 10
W: Do you like traveling If you do, here are some cities you shouldn’t miss.
The first is the French capital. It is often called the most beautiful city in the world. Known as the City of Light, Paris is home to some of the world’s most-visited tourist sites, including the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, Moulin Rouge and the Notre-Dame Cathedral. I visited the city with my family at the beginning of this year. I liked visiting the city’s many sidewalk cafés.
The second city is in my own country. And I live in it. More than 50 million people visit New York City every year. The five areas of New York have many of the most recognized attractions in the world. Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge to get a beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline, or observe the city from the top of the Empire State Building. Eat famous New York pizza.
The third city is London, where my father was born. It is a world capital of culture and fashion. It is also one of the world’s leading financial centers. Visitors can visit the rooms in Buckingham Palace, the official home of the Queen of England. When I visited it last year, I visited the Sherlock Holmes Museum. I also walked across Abbey Road, just like the band The Beatles did in 1969. I also checked the time at the famous clock tower, Big Ben.长春市重点中学2022-2023学年高二下学期4月月考

Standing on the shore of a lake, I can't help but marvel at the tens or hundreds of thousands of small rocks that surround my boots. They were all created from hard surfaces, their edges softening over time.
And I wonder, can we learn from a pile of rocks Much like a rock, I've found my attitude has softened and my desire to better understand others has expanded with each trip around the sun. Once, I too was a sharp rock covered in pointy edges. Today, after decades of the waters of life coursing over me, my edges are softer and more understanding. I'm less likely to judge and more interested in learning how we can exist together.
But I'm not a rock. I'm a human being filled with all the drama built into my DNA.
Two years ago, while traveling in the Pacific Northwest, I watched a restaurant owner ask several people to leave for not wearing masks. Not forceful and not rude. On the door read a sign: “Please wear a mask before entering our restaurant. We don't like it either, but let's all do what we can to get through this together." The group of young men wished to argue about the note. I've been those guys before, using my youthful edges to chip away at the world. What I lost, however, was the ability to grow from experiences by looking through the eyes of others. In learning to be more open, I've also found more happiness and success.
You can fit more rounded rocks in a jar than those with sharp edges. The former look for ways to adjust and make room for others; the latter never give an inch to accommodate others.
Time, like the waters rolling against once sharp stones, changes us by washing away our refusal to see the world from another's point of view.
I placed a rounded stone into my jacket pocket. Mother Nature is holding class again.
24. What does the author compare the rocks to
A. People's interests. B. People's dreams.
C. People's personalities. D. People's abilities.
25. Why did the group of guys argue in the restaurant
A. They were unwilling to wear masks.
B. They intended to skip off without paying.
C. They were not allowed to leave the restaurant.
D. They were dissatisfied with the owner's rudeness.
26. What does the underlined word “accommodate" in paragraph 5 mean
A. Refuse. B. Understand. C. Impress. D. Change.
27.What does the author want to tell us with this article
A. We should adjust ourselves to new conditions.
B. Be brave when in the face of difficulties in life.
C. It's necessary to follow others' advice all the time.
D. Being understanding helps one live more happily and successfully.
C
Fried chicken, milk tea, cheesecake...Sometimes, it is so hard to refuse food high in sugar and this can lead us to blame ourselves for not having self-discipline. A new study, however, pointed out that there is a special area in the brain that turns on in the face of junk food.
According to a paper published in the journal Nature Neuroscience, scientists discovered that a specific area of the brain called IPAC is activated (激活)by tasting food high in fat and sugar.
The researchers at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, US, arrived at the theory after various tests on mice. By looking at the mice’s brain activity, they located IPAC and the related neurons(神经元).The researchers then switched on these neurons directly. It increased the mice's intake of all foods-but the effect stood out more for high-fat and high-sugar products like white chocolate, coconut and olive oil.
According to the news release of this study, when the team switched off the specific neurons, mice weren't drawn to the fatty, sugary foods that had attracted them before. “They not only stopped gaining weight but also seemed to be much healthier overall,” said Bo Li, one of the leading authors. The experiments also showed that the solution could boost the animals' physical activity as they became more active when the neurons were turned off.
The team's next step is to map out how these neurons respond to different types of food and see what makes them so sensitive(敏感的).This will improve strategies that deal with obesity.
Earlier in 2022, researchers at the University of Cologne, Germany, claimed to have found a new approach to treating eating disorders. The treatment includes using a kind of inhibitor(抑制剂)on the brain to help people comfortably reduce their food intake. As scientists discover more about the secret behind eating, in the future, we may keep fit without painfully controlling our diets.
28.What did the study aim to find out
A. The causes of eating disorders. B. The link between the brain and appetite.
C. The factors influencing food preference. D. The effects of junk food on our body.
29.How did researchers carry out the study
A. By analyzing the structure of junk food.
B. By checking at the amount of the food intake.
C. By recording how IPAC helps mice lose weight.
D. By observing reactions after turning on and off the neurons of mice.
30.What does the team plan to do next
A. Analyze the causes and treatments of obesity.
B. Conduct experiments on people with heavy weight.
C. Work out the neurons' reaction to different food types.
D. Understand how to improve animals' physical activities.
31.What is the author's attitude towards future diet control
A. Positive. B. Pessimistic. C. Critical. D. Objective.
D
As the age-old proverb goes, “Why cry over spilt milk ” But we still can't seem to do it! Why
Here comes the sunk cost effect, which is the ongoing investment of time, money and effort that an individual makes in any attempt, even if rationally (理性地)the results appear unsuccessful. When any one has already made an investment of time, money or effort, it becomes difficult to get away from the task. An error of judgment occurs when we fail to cut our losses-the sunk cost.
The simplest method of beating this error of judgment is to simply stop investing when it's not producing results.
People understand the same amount of losses and gains in a different way. This means that the same amount of losses will hurt more than an equal amount of gain. For example, if a business is going through heavy losses, one must decide to either shut it down or continue. Shutting it down is surely a loss of money, time and effort. People become risk-seeking when they are facing a clear loss. They will pump more money as a gamble (赌博)to achieve a positive outcome. If there is a positive outcome and the business starts making a profit, this has given them more happiness than simply making profits from the beginning. They managed to rise up from a heavy loss, thereby giving higher satisfaction about the decision to continue investing.
We, however, will not choose to honor sunk costs on every occasion. This is especially true in the case of insurance. Let's say that you have taken home insurance and probably never used it. You are not going to burn your house down just so you can use your house insurance.
32.Why does the author mention the old saying in paragraph 1
A. To share the meaning behind it. B. To introduce the topic of sunk cost effect.
C. To advertise a new way of life. D. To encourage people to control their emotions.
33.Which of the following situations may lead to sunk cost
A. Continuing eating ordered food even if it tastes bad.
B. Breaking up with those who aren't interested in you.
C. Going on investing when your sales are increasing.
D. Keeping on working out when you're a little thinner.
34.What is mainly discussed in paragraph 4
A. Endless desire and satisfaction. B. Losses and gains of a business.
C. The main reasons for sunk cost. D. The positive attitude towards failure.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Secret t Being Successful
B. Ways of Restarting Your Business
C. Honoring Sunk Cost Turns out Useless
D. Realizing Sunk Cost May Reduce Further Loss
