Have you ever heard of any festivals for animals Usually in October or November there is a unique festival called the Pushkar Camel (骆驼) Fair in India. Though the event started as a chance for traders to buy and sell farm animals, it has become an attraction for travelers from around the world.
The fair can be divided into two parts. The first part is a farm animal market where people trade camels, cows, sheep and some other animals. The second part is a carnival (狂欢节) that has local food, entertainment and open-air markets to suit all tastes. Tourists can experience the culture and traditions of the area by wandering around the markets.
Of course, the main characters are the camels. Visitors get a chance to see the camels at their best, because there are competitions for them, including races, beauty contests and tests on strength. People aren’t left out, either. Men can take part in a mustache competition, while women can dress up for a bridal (新娘的) competition. Both women and men can also compete in rounds of the tug-of-war (拔河) and many other events.
What started as a small meeting for locals to trade animals has become a big event. It seems unbelievable, but it is even more exciting than it sounds.

When you hear the word “transfiguration (变身)”, you may think of sci-fi movies rather than climate (气候) . However, that’s what animals are doing to deal with climate change.
A new study shows that some animals are slowly growing larger mouths, legs and ears. In this way they can cool themselves down more easily as the earth gets warmer.
“A lot of the time when we talk about climate change, we ask ‘Can humans get over this ’ Actually, we should know that animals also have to fit the change,” said the study’s researcher, Sara Ryding from Deakin University, Australia. “If animals can’t control their body temperature, they will overheat and die.”
In one example, the beaks of some kinds of Australian parrots have grown 4 to 10 percent larger since 1871, and it’s closely related to the rising summer temperature over the years. Similar examples also include wood mice. They have longer tails. Some animals are getting longer tails and legs. Bats in a warmer climate have bigger wings.
Animals are changing their shapes, but scientists say that it doesn’t mean everything is fine. It just means that they are trying hard to live. However, not all animals can succeed.

Madrid is Spain’s capital, which has a lot of famous places. Now there’s one more reason why people want to visit Madrid, as the Liria Palace has opened to the public.
Before its opening on Sept. 19, 2019, no one could enter the palace unless they were private guests or artists who still had to wait on a nearly three-year list.
The Liria Palace has been Madrid’s cultural secret for a long time. Now many people such as bloggers and photographers can take photos they never thought they would be able to get in the past, from inside the palace. However, no more than twenty visitors are allowed to enter the palace every 30 minutes during opening hours.
The Liria Palace keeps some of the country’s most valuable paintings. It includes works of Francisco Goya, Diego Velazquez and Peter Paul Rubens, which are regarded as important works of art in Spanish history.
The palace also features (以······为特色) a library with a collection of original manuscripts (手稿). Among them are the writings and drawings of Christopher Columbus, a famous explorer who arrived in the Americas.
The Liria Palace has more than just its collections. The building can reveal (揭露) the life of the Spanish royal families, said the New York Times. The recordings tell people past stories that took place in the palace and visitors can listen to the old music.
“The social desire to see the collections is strong, " said Alvaro Romero Sanchez-Arjona, the head of the culture department at the Casa de Alba Foundation, “You can feel the power of the history at once when you enter the palace,” Romero added. “Visitors will think they’re not in a museum. They will feel like they are in a palace which there are still people living in.”

Environmental science activities, whether done in school or at home, are a great way to educate kids. They are both fun and educational.
Activity One: Buy a compost (混合肥料) bin, or let making a bin be a part of the activity. Fill the bin with dried leaves, vegetable peel, newspaper and other materials that break down easily. Kids can find out how waste things break down over time.
Activity Two: You need a clear glass or plastic container, such as a soda bottle or a fish tank. Place a layer of sand at the bottom and add soil and plants. Then add enough water to make the soil wet, and cover the container tightly to ensure it is airtight (密封的). The water inside the biodome (生物馆) will continually evaporate and rain back down on the plants in the biodome.
Activity Three: The activity begins with collecting and labeling samples of water and soil from around town, which can be stored in clean food jars with the locations clearly marked on them. Kids can compare data (数据) by using pH testing strips for liquid sold in drugstores and soil-testing kits available at garden centers, and see whether acid rain (酸雨) is a problem in the area.
Activity Four: Choose a safe location, such as a pond or a garden, and go there at least one day a week for a few months. Children can keep a field journal in which they keep notes of what they see. A field guide will help them a lot. Some fun projects may include digging and collecting fossils (化石), taking photos to make a visual file and creating their own web page.

To forgive is a virtue (美德), but no one has ever said it is easy. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.
How should you start to forgive Try the following steps:
Calm yourself. You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.
Don’t wait for an apology (道歉). Many times the person who hurt you does not mean to apologize. If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time. Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.
Take the control away from your offender (冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who causes you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.
Try to see things from your offender’s angle (角度). If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offender’s point of view.
Don’t forget to forgive yourself. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge. It can rob you of your self-confidence if you don’t do it.

Cars powered by gasoline were sold for many years before hybrid vehicles that use gasoline, electricity, and solar energy. Car companies are now making cars that are fully powered by electricity only. How do these electric cars measure up to (符合标准) traditional gasoline cars
Electric and gasoline vehicles look similar on the outside. They have very different parts under their hoods, though. Electric cars have one main moving part: the motor. But gas cars literally have hundreds of parts, often requiring frequent maintenance (保养). Having fewer parts makes the electric car cheaper to maintain and less likely to have mechanical problems.
Electric vehicles are energy efficient, also making them cheaper to operate. It costs about $1. 00 to travel 43 miles in an electric car, which is a clear contrast to a gas car, which costs about $1. 25 to go 18 miles. Basically, an electric car can go twice as far as a gas car for the same price.
Electric vehicles do not have tailpipe emissions, making them more friendly to the environment, too.
While some details make electric cars seem attractive, other details aren’t as favorable. For example, some electric cars can travel only 60 to 120 miles on a full charge (充电). Most gas cars can drive hundreds of miles on a full tank.
An electric car has to stop more often to get recharged. Therefore, a gas car would be a better option (选择) if you have far to drive. And electric cars aren’t as convenient (方便的) to power up as gas cars are. There are plenty of gas stations, but not many charging stations for electric cars. Then, once an electric car reaches a charging station, it can take up to six hours to charge.
There are certainly benefits to both electric cars and gasoline cars. It’s good to know that there is an option.
Electric cars vs Gasoline cars
Introduction With the appearance of electric cars, people wonder whether electric cars can achieve the 1. _________ standards as gasoline cars.
Similarity Electric cars and gasoline cars look similar on the outside.
2. _________ Electric cars Having fewer parts reduces the 3. _________ of their maintenance and the 4. _________ of having mechanical problems. 5. _________ with gasoline cars, electric cars are more energy-saving, making them cheaper to operate. Having no tailpipe emissions, they are more environmentally 6. _________. It 7. _________ more time for electric cars to get charged. Gasoline cars Gas cars can cover a 8. _________ distance on a full tank than electric cars on a full charge. Gas cars are more 9. _________ to power up.
Conclusion Both electric cars and gasoline cars have their own benefits, which provides people with a 10. _________.
1. _________ 2. _________ 3. _________ 4. _________ 5. _________
6. _________ 7. _________ 8. _________ 9. _________ 10. _________

Noisy neighbors are a common problem in a society where many people live closely together. And this can be most important when you share walls, floors or ceilings with neighbors in a flat. A noisy neighbor can make life challenging, especially if noise goes well into night, or happens during early morning hours. This situation needs to be dealt with properly, which requires your ability to keep calm.
You should first try to tell your noisy neighbors about the noise. This conversation should be polite, even friendly. It can begin with a statement like “I am not sure you are aware”, explain the problem in an honest way, and ask the neighbor to turn down the music, or not to hold parties until 3 a. m. You can also add that you realize they hear your noise too, and you are certainly willing to try to stop anything in your behavior that is creating extra noise.
You should know that not all neighbors are going to follow your requirement, and some may act in a bad manner. If the noisy neighbors don’t change their behavior, the next step should be to write the neighbors a letter. The letter should show your grievances (不满) and the dates when the noise was quite terrible. For example, if your neighbor has loud gatherings every Friday night that last into the early morning, then write down those dates.
When the noise remains going on, you should report it to local authorities (权力部门) , or even the police department, when it is really necessary. Often, however, the problem is solved when the noisy neighbor knows you are going to call the police.
Do be aware that you cannot always require noisy neighbors to be quiet. When the noise remains going on, it is wise not to deal with it in an angry or retaliatory (报复性的) fashion. If you have completed the steps and letter, don’t start hitting walls or floors around in your home or turning up the music to make your neighbors angry. Just have patience and remember that communication is the most important.
