Module 8的主要内容为运用宾语从句和定语从句来描述毕业生晚会上的对话和写作毕业晚会上的发言。从全书来看,本模块是对以前宾语从句和定语从句的总结和运用,着重引导词的使用,让同学们通过课堂学习活动来掌握其用法。

Step2. Learning
1. Pre-reading
Students think about a speech at a school leavers’ party, and answer the question in pairs. There may be more than one answer.
2. Think about a speech at a school leavers’ party, and answer the questions. There may be more than one answer.
3. Listen and answer the question about the purpose of speech.
4. Read and find the sentences which show. Then, read the passage and check your answers.
5. Read and let students use paraphrase to answer the relevant questions.
6. Read and check the answers to the questions.

Step3. Speaking
1. Students work in groups. Recall their memories about the happiness of the last three years and discuss who they want to thank and give the reasons.
2. Let students imagine going to give a speech at the school-leavers’ party.
3.Present students the sample speech with the explanation on the important parts.

1. proud adj.自豪的;自尊的;自傲的
be proud of 以……为荣、自豪
pride n. 自豪, 得意
take pride in = be proud of 对……感到自豪。
2. invite v. 邀请
“邀请某人干某事”为invite sb. to do sth。
3. thanks to “由于,多亏”,是介词短语。 thanks to常带有“感激”的感彩, 表示由于某个人或某物的存在才有某种好的结果。
thank sb. for sth. / doing sth. 为……感谢……
4. give up 放弃;投降,认输; 猜不出。
5. raise 在这里是动词,意为“举起”。
raise还有“提起,使升高,引起,扬起,提高,增加,筹款,召集,提出,养育”之意。
raise是及物动词,后面一定要加宾语;而rise是不及物动词,后面不能加宾语。
6. try one’s best 尽某人最大的努力。
7.not only… but also…的用法
主语并列时代词用主格代词;
这个结构还可以并列动宾短语、介宾短语等。
8. disappointed adj. 失望的
disappointed指“对……(人/物)感到失望的”, 通常作表语,用于修饰人。
disappointing指“令人感到失望的”, 可以作表语也可以作定语,通常修饰物。
