66.Dear Tom,
I’m glad to know that you are interested in Chinese culture, especially Peking Opera. As is known, regarded as the quintessence of China, Peking Opera has a history of 200 years. It’s not only popular in China, but also included in the list of intangible cultural heritage of mankind. The good news is that the China National Peking Opera Troupe will give a wonderful performance in our opera house on May 1st. I think it’s a good opportunity to enjoy Peking Opera, so I want to invite you to appreciate the performance. If your time is available, be sure to let me know before April 20, so that I can book tickets in advance.
Looking forward to your early reply.
Yours truly,
Li Hua
67.Paragraph1:
Knowing I carried his treat, Bullet got up quickly and ran to me. The dog watched as I threw cookies over the fence. I noticed she hadn’t gotten the courage to venture outside the fence to get the meat. I went back to the porch, trying to think of a way to make the dog overcome her fear and come for the meat. Noticing Bullet was eating, the dog began to move forward slowly, watching me all the while. “He might share his alfalfa with you, but he’ll never let you eat his favorite cookies!” I said to myself.
Paragraph 2:
But Bullet didn’t care as the dog jumped forward and took a cookie. The dog soon swallowed the cookie, and then took more. When Bullet walked back toward the tree’s shade, the dog walked along. All day long, they stayed together. The next day, Bullet still shared his food with the dog. And I managed to make the dog get out of the pasture and adopted her. Although she eventually warmed to me, she always loved Bullet’s company most. They’d run joyfully together and rest together. And often Bullet touched the dog with his nose and she licked his face. I knew they had become close friends.

W: Oh, yes, you used to love sitting in that pool on hot summer days.

W: No problem. Do I just need to feed him
M: He needs feeding twice a day, and I need you to walk him every two days if possible.
W: That is okay. How far should I go
M: It’s up to you. Usually I walk around the park for 20 minutes or longer. The beach there is perfect, and it’s not too far from here.
W: That sounds nice.
M: He’s actually very quiet so that you don’t have to worry too much about him barking(吠叫) at night.
W: Yeah, I can see that.
M: Oh, yes. I would suggest you take Brownie alone, not with Bruno. I don’t think Bruno and Brownie get along very well.
W: That’s okay. The kids can take care of Bruno and walk him this week, so I can keep an eye on Brownie.
M: That would be best. Thank you so much, Mrs. Green.

Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to the Manor House Museum. Before you go round, I’d like to tell you about some of the interesting things we have for you. Here in the entrance hall, you can see some old photos of the town. Over there in the Ford Room, we have some pictures of gardens painted in Italy. The colors of the flowers are really beautiful.
Upstairs on the left is our famous clock collection. We have more than a hundred and fifty different clocks and they all tell the right time. The oldest is four hundred years old.On the right we have a clothes-show. Famous actors once wore these clothes in films or television shows. Some of them are really beautiful.
You may like to buy the guidebook to the museum—it has many color photographs, and it costs I pound and 75 pence. You can buy one over there.
We are open until 5:30 today, an hour later than usual, so you have lots of time.

Walker, a farmer, at 55, was the oldest of the competitors and finished third in this year’s 1,000 km race across the grassland — The Mongol Derby.
The Mongol Derby, described by the organizers, as the world’s toughest horse endurance (耐力) race, began in 2009 as an event held every year but was cancelled in 2021 and 2022. Competitors race between checkpoints 35 km apart, where they change horses. They spend nights at one of 28 stations, set up their own camp or enjoy the hospitality (好客) of friendly Mongolian families.
Walker was an hour ahead of his rivals (对手) as the race entered its eighth day but dealt with a time punishment because his horse had a high heart rate during one of the regular checks which make sure that the animals were healthy. “I was in the lead for a long time but I had a bad vet check,” Walker said. “They check the heart rate of your horse to see if it is above 56 beats per minute. I picked a horse that had a bit of a problem.”
Walker said he had gone to Mongolia to “give it a go” but realized that he stood a chance of winning after teaming up with Patrick Heffron, a competitor from Ireland. “The horses are quite wild. I got bucked (颠) off three times. I fell off in a hole,” he said. “You’re going along and you suddenly disappear. You have to hang on to your horse for dear life or it goes off.”
Heffron met Walker as they went out for the race. He said it was important to form a team, mainly because falling off alone means that there is no one to help you recover your horse. “It’s also a bloody long way to talk to yourself,” Heffron said, “Neither of us had goals to win this race in advance but we realized: ‘We’re in front.’ So we pushed.”

When Narayanswami was invited to a dinner by a friend who worked at Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, she was excited. Many of the guests flew planes. “I must have expressed some yearning(渴望),”she says, because someone told her “You should join the flying club!” The next day Narayanswami, who was 57 at the time, arranged to meet an instructor. “I said ‘Aren’t I too old ” He said “We’ve got students in their 80s.”
Narayanswami grew up in Southwest London, and at grammar school suffered horrific racist bullying. The library provided shelter. But, as she reached her late teens, she feel family pressure for an arranged marriage; “I really protested,” she says. “But I want to be an astronaut! My mother made a promise. As long as you are getting an education we will not look for a husband for you.”
Narayanswami studied biology at Leicester University, then did a PhD at St Andrew, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of California. “Every time you move you get further away,” her dad remarked on the phone. “I didn’t feel I would be able to escape unless I did that,” she says.
In 2020, aged 64, Narayanswami finished 423 flight hours she needed to earn her pilot's license. Then she applied to Nasa’s astronaut corps, but received a very appreciative rejection. Even now, at 66, she says “I haven't been able to figure out how to deal with it. It doesn’t go away.” The racist bullying she received as a child has cast a very long shadow.
Flying has helped. It is a workout: she has to tow the plane out to the taxiway. And it offers a different perspective. “I can see eagles, bears, mountain lions, birds of prey. I love the beauty of the clouds. They are like hills. Vaster than our hills,” she says.
New possibilities have arisen—Narayanswami chairs the board of the General Aviation Awards in the US—but she finds relaxing difficult. In flight, she is part of a huge network of people who are communicating by radio frequency. There is no sense of skin colour. We are all tied together by our voices.
28.How did the instructor’s words sound to Narayanswami
A.Disappointing. B.Embarrassing.
C.Annoying. D.Encouraging.
29.What does the, underlined word “that” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.Accepting an aged marriage. B.Receiving an education.
C.Keeping a distance. D.Making a promise:
30.What does Narayanswami think of Nasa's rejection
A.It indicates prejudice against her. B.It ruins her childhood memory.
C.It raises concern for her age. D.It leaves room for negotiation.
31.What does flying bring to Narayanswami
A.A good way of relaxation. B.A different dimension of life.
C.A rich knowledge of wild lie. D.A full exhibition of leadership.
D
Contrary to the long held belief that plants in natural world are always in competition, new research has found in bad environments mature (成熟的) plants help smaller ones — and thrive as a result. The research team, led by Dr.Rocio Pérez Barrales studied adult and young plants in the “ecological desert” of soil in the south east of Spain.
The findings could have significance for those managing bad environments like coastal areas. Dr.Pérez Barrales said, “What we have found surprising is that a strong large plant, called a ‘nurse’, shields a young one, and it also produces more flowers than those of similar size growing on their own.” Dr.Pérez Barrales and her team studied plant growth in southern Spain for over three months during summer and found that the young and “nurse” are more likely to thrive when grown together, compared to either plant growing alone.
The young plants benefit from shade, more moisture and more nutrients, from the leaf litter (落叶层) of the “nurse” plants, and probably higher bacteria and fungus (真菌) in the soil. As it matures, the “nurse” plant grows more flowers than those similar ones nearby growing alone, greatly increasing its chances of producing seeds and reproducing. Besides, vegetation of “nurse” and facilitated plants with more flowers might be able to attract a greater number and variety of pollinators (传粉昆虫) in an area. In turn, it supports insect and soil life, and even provides a larger range of different fruit types for birds and mammals. This is the greatest achievement of the ecosystem.
The research is likely to be of value to those who manage to protect plants in hostile and harsh environments, such as shingle and sand dune (沙丘) ecosystems, which are considered at high risk due to human action and climate change. Most home gardeners and farmers are happy with the research as well, but the findings might be of more value to those who garden in harsh places.
32.What's the finding of the study
A.The mature and smaller plants benefit each other when growing together.
B.Large plants sacrifice themselves for the smaller ones.
C.Young plants compete with the adults for larger space.
D.Young plants struggle to survive in harsh environments.
33.Why is a plant called a “nurse”?
A.Because it produces more flowers. B.Because it competes with a larger one.
C.Because it protects and helps the young. D.Because it grows well in bad environments.
34.What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.The natural selection. B.The biodiversity (生物多样性) in an area.
C.The improvement of the soil. D.The high rate of animal reproduction (繁殖).
35.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about
A.The effects of the research on agriculture.
B.The shortcomings of the research at present.
C.The influence of the research on climate change.
D.The significance of the research findings in some fields.

It seems that friendship can also exist between dogs and horses. I’ve witnessed one inspiring case.
One morning, I went outside to feed our horse Bullet. Usually, Bullet waits eagerly at the fence for his breakfast. But this morning he stayed near a tree in the pasture’s center. As he began joyfully walking toward me, I noticed a dog lying in the tall grass beneath the tree. So this was what held Bullet’s attention this morning: a homeless dog. Most of the homeless dogs shied away from our large Bullet, but this one seemed to feel safe in the shelter of the tall grass regardless of Bullet. I placed alfalfa cubes inside the fence. After Bullet ate them, I’d give him some cookies he loved most.
I walked back to my porch and sat down. As Bullet ate alfalfa, the dog stood up cautiously, stared at Bullet for long and then slowly walked toward Bullet. The dog often paused and looked at me to ensure I wasn’t a threat. As the dog drew closer to Bullet, I held my breath. I didn’t know how Bullet would react to an animal that approached while he was eating. Knowing a horse’s kick can kill a dog, I decided to scare the dog away. Just then Bullet swung his head and looked at the dog. Not minding it, he ate his food again.
The dog drew close enough to take an alfalfa cube. My heart broke as I watched the dog — a female — chewing on the alfalfa. She had to be extremely hungry to attempt to eat horse feed. I went inside the house, carried some meat and walked toward the fence. The dog soon ran to the safety of the tall grass near the tree. I put the meat down outside the fence and went back inside the house. She’d probably come for the meat when I was out of sight.
Minutes later, I realized I hadn’t yet given Bullet his cookies. I took some and went back outside. Amazingly, Bullet was lying down in the grass beneath the tree with the dog next to him. I smiled at the warm scene they created.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
