How? First, they buy fewer things. They try to buy only what they really need. When you buy fewer things, you throw away fewer things. Second, they reuse things. They use things, and then they use them again! Third, they recycle things. They make old things into new things. People call these the “three Rs”: reduce, ________ and ________. The three Rs help us remember that ________ is a problem.reuserecyclegarbageRead the passage, fill in the blanks and get to know more about how to deal with garbage.Extended readingWorld Environment Day began in 1972. it organized by the U.N. every year in different countries. Its aim is to remind people to protect the environment. It has a different theme each year. Theme for this year’s World Environment Day celebrations is Think, Eat, Save. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), every year 1.3 billion tonnes (公吨) of food is wasted. At the same time, 1 in every 7 people in the world go to bed hungry and more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily from hunger.
If food is wasted, it means that all the resources (资源) and inputs (投入) used in the production of all the food are also lost. For example, it takes about 1,000 liters of water to produce 1 liter of milk and about 16,000 liters goes into a cow’s food to make a hamburger.
So think before you eat and help save our environment!
For example, you may choose foods that have less environmental impact (影响), such as organic (有机的) foods that do not use chemicals (化学制品) in the production process. Choosing to buy locally can also mean that foods are not flown halfway across the world and therefore limit emissions (排放).
Tasks: 1. What is the theme of World Environment Day this year?
2. Why should we think before eating? Because people waste a lot of food every year, which has bad impact on the environment. What can we do to clean up the world? Please design some activities for World Environmental Day.
You may have a name and a slogan (口号) for the project.
You need to list what to do.
You should tell why to do.
