Discussion
Are the three people talking about New Zealand from the same perspective Find examples in your notes.
No. From the programme, we know that Dave’s choice is the Bay of Islands. As a business journalist, he paid more attention to economic benefits; Felicity, as an editor of World Nature magazine, paid more attention to the uniqueness (独特性) of the scenery; Jane, as a writer of the Fantastic Life blog, paid more attention to multi-cultural aspects.
How do our careers affect our thinking and talking
People of different careers have different characteristics. For example, when we talk about new media, we usually think of quick thinking and quick reaction. Therefore, people in different industries have their own professional characteristics in their concerns and ways of looking at problems.

Well, I wouldn’t choose a particular place. I think that if someone left New Zealand without seeing a kiwi bird or a flock of sheep, they haven’t truly experienced the country. What I’m trying to say is that what best represents New Zealand is not necessarily a place, but rather the experiences you get there. Try some manuka honey. See the haka. Go bungee jumping! In short, I would like to suggest that tourists not just visit iconic places in New Zealand — they should experience its culture.

Jane:
Yes, Dave. I think the Bay of Islands is a great place too, but I have a different place in mind.
Folks, this is Felicity James, editor of World Nature magazine. Felicity
Thanks, William. In my opinion, the places that best represent New Zealand are the geothermal parks, such as in the North Island area. The hot springs, geysers, bubbling mud, and sulphuric pools make that area one of the most amazing places you’ll ever see. The scenery there is truly unique to New Zealand.
Also, here with us is Jane Smith, writer of the Fantastic Life blog. Jane, what do you think
