Class: Name: Marks: 满分(120)
第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
A
During my first day at senior high school, I met my new teacher. She looked at me and said, “I am happy to have an international student in my class.” I was very excited.
One day, I came to the class about three minutes late, and she told me to write my name on a piece of paper and, beside it, the word “late”. In that way she could know I was late for the first time. At first, I was embarrassed and angry. Then I did not complain because she taught me an important lesson: time is very valuable.
I learned another important lesson during one of my classes — the day of the first exam. After I finished my exam, I did not review my answers because it was the end of the exam time. One week later, she returned my exam paper. I found that one of my answers was wrong. Even though the only choices were A, B and C, I chose D instead of C. I tried to explain my mistake to her, “I marked D though I knew C was the right answer.” However, she refused my request and told me, “I do believe you, but I am not going to forgive your mistake. This will encourage you to be more careful before you turn your papers in.” I was not expecting that from her, but she was completely right.
1. The teacher told the writer to write his name to .
A. force him to work hard B. test his writing style
C. make him angry D. tell him the importance of time
2. Why did the writer choose D instead of C?
A. D was the right answer. B. The exam time was short.
C. It was just an accident. D. He didn’t know the right answer.
3. The writer thought the teacher’s attitude to his request was .
A. rude B. bad C. unexpected D. wrong
4. What’s the writer’s purpose in writing this passage?
A. To praise his teacher very highly.
B. To show how strict his teacher was.
C. To tell us to be careful in exams.
D. To tell his experience of studying abroad.

If I asked you to name your favorite teachers from kindergarten through graduate school, it would be easy to answer, wouldn’t it? It would also be an enjoyable question to answer because it would bring back so many good memories of wonderful people who’ve touched both your personal life and your professional life. You would be thinking about people who not only taught you things of value, but inspired you as well. Quite possibly they inspired you to become a teacher.
My classmates and I were asked this question on my first day in the teaching credential (证书) program at the University of San Francisco many years ago. I thought of Sister Mary Anne, who taught me in elementary school. I thought of Mrs. Padgett and Mrs. Kofford, English teachers, in high school. I thought of Dr. Lincoln and Dr. Campbell, history professors, who taught me in college. Then came this question, “What do they all have in common?” I stood up and said, “They all love what they are doing. They have great enthusiasm for teaching.” All of my classmates nodded their heads in agreement.
That was apparently the answer Dr. McSweeney expected. He said, “I ask that question every year, and I always get the same answer.” He went on to explain that he opened with that question because it got future teachers to think about what separates the great teachers from the not-so-great. He said, “We all remember our favorite teachers — the ones who had passion and enthusiasm, the ones who loved and enjoyed what they were doing. We want each of you to become that kind of teacher. Always remember those special teachers.” It’s a statement I never forgot once during my thirty-five years in the classroom.
5. What would be the best title of the passage?

C. My first lesson
D. My favorite teacher — Dr. McSweeney

C. passion and enthusiasm D. good health
7. The author implies that teachers who are liked best by students .
A. have good memories B. are mostly women teachers
C. teach very well
D. have very positive influence on them
8. Dr. McSweeney wished his students to by starting with that question.
A. become great teachers B. have a lively and interesting lesson
C. remember their teachers D. tell great teachers from common ones

My father and I started our morning by moving quickly into the local store. I waited in line at the Starbucks counter while he shopped around to pick up a few things.
As I was standing there I became aware of an elderly woman, with untidy hair, wearing layers upon layers of old clothing, hunchbacked (弯背的) behind me in line. She had a few things for washing and seemed to want the Starbucks cashier to ring up since that queue was shorter than the queues in the store.
At some point I became aware of her edging (慢慢挪动) closer behind me — closer than I was comfortable with! I instinctively (本能地) placed a hand over my purse and drew it closer to me. My fear and imagination raced creating wild stories about this homeless woman who might try to steal from me.
Then it was my turn to order. As the cashier rang up my total, I discovered I was 67 cents short. I called my father but he was hard of hearing. He asked me to repeat what I said but he still couldn’t make me out. At that point, a long, grey arm, with holes in its sleeves, reached over from behind me. She laid 67 cents out on the counter, saying, “Here, we all need some help sometimes.”
I was stunned! Here was a woman who clearly had very little to give and was in great need herself. I had judged her wrongly and she had offered to reach out to help me!
What an amazing gift and lesson this woman gave me about judging others!Thank you, God!
9. When seeing the elderly woman behind, the writer .
A. thought of her grandmother B. wondered what she would do
C. called her father right away D. was on the watch for her
10. The elderly woman decided to help the writer .
A. the moment she saw the writer
B. when she noticed the writer watching her
C. after the writer failed to get help from her father
D. when the writer discovered she was 67 cents short
11. The underlined word “stunned” in Paragraph 5 probably means “ ”.
A. happy B. surprised C. angry D. disappointed
12. What lesson does the writer learn from the story?
A. We should look at things from two sides.
B. It’s wise to give help to those in need.
C. The world is full of love and surprises.
D. Never judge a person from his appearance.

English has now achieved global status (身份). Whenever we turn on the news to find out what’s happening in East Asia, or Africa, or South America, or anywhere, local people are being interviewed and telling us about it in English.
Indeed, if one looks at the facts about the amazing reach of the English language, many would be surprised. English is used in over 90 countries as an official or semi-official language. English is the working language of many international institutes as well as of most international research scientists. It is believed that over one billion people worldwide are learning English now.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the spread of English around the world has been the extent to which Europeans are adopting (采用) it as their language. English is spreading from northern Europe to the south and is now firmly established (建立) as a second language in countries such as Sweden, Norway, Netherlands and Denmark. If one visits any of them it would seem that almost everyone there can communicate with ease in English.
Recently, a special survey of Europeans’ use of languages has just been published. The report said that English is the most widely known foreign language now, with 43% of Europeans claiming they speak it and that Sweden now holds the most of English speakers, with over 89% of the population. What’s more, English is the language rated as the most useful language to know, with over 77% of Europeans who do not speak English as their first language considering it useful.
English has without doubt become the global language.
13. The best title of this passage is “ ”.
A. An official language B. Global English
C. English in Europe D. A special survey
14. About English, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. English is the first language in Denmark.
B. All of African people can speak English.
C. English is the main working language in the world.
D. About 77% of Swedes are English speakers now.
15. The underlined word “rated” in Paragraph 4 can be replaced by “ ”.
A. admitted B. disagreed C. considered D. argued

I have many new teachers now, among whom I like my English teacher Miss Wu best. With big eyes and long hair, she is pretty good-looking. Listening to music is her favorite. Besides, she is interested in collecting stamps.
Most of us enjoy taking her lessons and staying with her. Learning English is not so difficult as before because she always tries to make English learning interesting. As a responsible teacher, she takes his job seriously all the time. If we have any difficulty in our studies and lives, she is willing to help us no matter who we are.
Miss Wu is such a good teacher that we all think highly of her.
