Text 1
M: What's wrong?
W: My bank card and mobile phone were stolen. I'd better go home to make the lost call first.
M: Oh, my god. Why not go to the telephone booth to make the call?
W: That's right.
Text 2
M: With this new job, I've got to start dressing more professionally.
W: Maybe you need a suit.
M: Yes, I think so. What about this one?
W: Well, the style is fine. You might want to reconsider the choice of color.
Text 3
W: What do you think of it?
M: I particularly enjoyed the description of the scenery.. The characters were quite well developed.
W: Well, I think it was perhaps a bit long. I was a bit relieved when I finally finished it.
M: Oh, I feel that way, too.
Text 4
W: I'm sorry I am late.
M: What's wrong with you? I left a message with your roommate about the time change.
W: She has a very short memory and it really gets on my nerves sometimes.
M: Oh, I see.
Text 5
W: Do you have any idea what this notice about?
M: I'm as in the dark as you are.
Text 6
M: Hi, up with you. It's important to do some exercises. You mustn't be too lazy.
W: Oh. Daddy! Mum doesn't do any exercises, either. I'm not the sporty type. I'm too fat to do sport.
M: The doctor told her she had to rest because of the problem she has with her heart.
W: But what about Peter?
M: He's too busy. After all, he has to support this four-people family. He has to work very long hours and he couldn't finish earlier. It's impossible for him to do some exercises.
W: I know, you and mummy prefer boys to girls.
M: Come on, darling. Won't you become a nice girl.
Text 7
M: Hi, Barbara! Did you have a nice break?
W: Hi! I sure did. I'm glad to be back...one more term to go.
M: Yeah. How's your course?
M: Why?
W: I'd love to learn French, but I don't want to ruin my grade point average.. If I don't do well, how will it look on my record? Do you think I should drop the course?
M: That's a tough decision. But, look. Just be sure to get a lot of practice. You know, I have a friend who's French-speaking. Do you want her number? Maybe you could get together.
W: Do you think she minds?
M: I bet she'd love to talk to you in French.
W: That might be fun.
Text 8
W: Can you tell me what is so special about your department store?
M: Well, yes, it is special. Reynold's is a large department store and you can find everything you want for the home here.
W: Yes, that's right, but isn't there something special about the staff—you know—has anybody retired recently?
M: No. Nobody has retired recently, and we never force anybody to retire here.
W: How old is your employee?
M: Well, that would be Arthur. Arthur is our cleaner, and he's 87.
W: 87! And he cleans the store every day?
M: Well, not alone, no. He works with two other cleaners. They're not so old—Mabel's 70 and Ivy's 75-76. That's right, she just had her birthday.
W: And they don't want to retire?
M: No. I think they enjoy the work, and it keeps them young.
Text 9
W: Well, today on the health program we have a guest who may have some interesting advice. Dr John Squire, author of How to Beat Stress. Welcome, Dr Squire.
M: Hello.
W: Obviously lots of people feel stressed, so what can we do once we suffer from stress?
M: Stress is like smoking—if you really want to stop, you can. By changing the way you think and the way you behave, you can reduce the amount of stress that you feel. You don't need to see a doctor and you don't need sleeping pills! And exercise is one of the best things you can do for stress. Most people drive to work, take the lift to their offices, and sit there all day. Try running up the stairs, and take a ten-minute walk at lunchtime. It's very important to take breaks during the day and do the things that you want.
Text 10
The religion of the ancient Egyptians was based on nature. The sun, the wind and the animals which the Egyptians used on their land were all important in Egyptian religion. The chief god was Ra who represented the sun. But the Egyptians had many other gods, some of whom had the heads of animals. Bast was the soul of a man that could live on if the body was preserved in a special way.
The word “mummy” comes from an ancient Egyptian word meaning “tar”, and tar was one of the things which the ancient Egyptian used to preserve the body after death. The bodies were then wrapped in cloth, and dressed with jewels and necklaces. A mask was placed over the face of the dead person. And for the very important people, the mask was made of gold. The body of the dead person was buried together with things that the person had used during his life on earth, and things which he would need in the next life. Some of the tombs in which the bodies were kept were huge and beautiful structures. They were full of rare and expensive treasures.

Dear Disney,
Last weekend, the four members of my family spent an enjoyable holiday at the MagicKingdom - Disneyland. And one event made our visit seem truly magical.
We got to the front of the line at Space Mountain, only to find out that our little daughter Gloria couldn't take her ice-cream on the ride. We were so excited that we all forgot ice-cream was not allowed on the ride.
Gloria broke into tears and we all had no idea what to do. Then Murphy, one of the staff(员工) members, came over. She bent down and told Gloria that she would hold the ice-cream for her and give it to her when she finished the ride. Gloria said, “Promise?” Then she gave Murphy her ice-cream, and she completely enjoyed the ride.
Sure enough, as we walked out the exit, there was Gloria's new friend with “her” ice-cream.Now you and I both know what happened, because we know that an ice-cream won't last twenty minutes on a summer afternoon in Florida. Murphy knew what time we would get off the ride;she went to the nearest shop and bought a brand-new ice-cream thirty seconds before we walked out the exit. Gloria said, “Thank you,” but I'm sure she thought it was the same ice-cream.
We know that someone tried hard to make our visit special. Thanks so much for going above and beyond!
Your fan,
Carmen Rivera
文章大意:这是一位游客(粉丝)写给Disney的一封感谢信,一共有5小段。这封信具体讲述了游客Carmen Rivera和女儿在乘坐Space Mountain项目时因不能拿着ice-cream而发生的一个感人事件。信中涉及到三个生词magical(魔力的,不可思议的,迷人的)、brand-new(崭新的)、above and beyond(大于,多于,远于),但是不会影响学生阅读。

A.she couldn't find her parents in the line
B.she was too little to take the ride
C.she couldn't take her ice-cream on the ride
D.she had to wait for twenty minutes
答案:C 推理判断题。cried就是第三段中的broke into tears,答案在第二段中“Gloria couldn't take her ice-cream on the ride”,所以本题选C。
22.Murphy was waiting for Gloria ________ after the ride.
A.in the ice-cream shop
B.at the exit
C.in the front of the line
D.at the entrance
答案:B 从在第四段第一行和最后一行我们知道,工作人员Murphy等在“出口处”,所以本题选B。
23.In order to keep the promise, Murphy ________.
A.took Gloria to the nearest shop
B.asked her new friend to help Gloria
C.helped Gloria get off the ride
D.bought a new ice-cream for Gloria

24.Carmen Rivera wrote the letter to ________.
A.order ice-creams
B.promise to visit again
C.express her thanks

答案:C 推理判断题。因为这是一封“感谢信”,所以Carmen Rivera写这封信的目的就是表达谢意,所以本题选C。

Americans think that travel is good for you. Some even think it can help with one of the country's worst problems—crime(犯罪). Crime worries a lot of people. Every year, the number of crimes is up and up. And many criminals are young. They often come from sad homes, with only one parent or no parents at all.
There are many young criminals in prison. But prison doesn't change them. Six or seven in ten will go back to crime when they come out of prison.
One man, Bob Burton, thought of a new idea. In the old days, young men had to live a difficult life on the road. They learned to be strong and brave, and to help their friends in time of danger. This helped them to grow into men. So Bob started “Vision Quest”. He takes young criminals on a long, long journey with horses and wagons(马车), 3,000 miles through seven states. They are on the road for more than a year.
The young people on Vision Quest all have had problems. Most of them have already spent time in prison. This is their last chance.
It's hard work on the road. The day starts before the sun comes up. The boys and girls have to feed the horses. Some of them have never loved anyone before. But they can't love their horses enough. They also begin to love their partners. That love can help them to live a new life.
Not all the young people on Vision Quest will leave crime behind them. Three or four in ten will one day be in prison again. Bob Burton is right. Travel can be good for you. Even today, Americans still say,“Go west, young man.”
25.In the last paragraph“leave crime behind them”means
________.
A.no longer do a crime
B.leave people who do a crime
C.do all the crimes
D.leave criminals behind
答案:A 词义理解题。从下句“Three or four in ten will one day be in prison again.”我们可以知道,并不是所有的参加Vision Quest的人都不再犯罪了。
26.Why is Bob Burton right?
A.Because he can help with crime.
B.Because three or four is better than six or seven.
C.Because the young criminals have a hard life on the road.
D.Because he can stop crime in the country.
答案:B 推理判断题。原来出狱的人再次犯罪回到监狱的几率是十分之六七,现在则成了十分之三四,因此他是正确的。
27.From the passage we may infer that________.
A.getting up before the sun rises can help people out of crime
B.love can help young people to start a new life
C.traveling can help all criminals out of prison
D.being strong and brave can do with crime
答案:B 推理判断题。从“That love can help them to live a new life.”可知B项正确。
28.On“Vision Quest”________.
A.young people have bad problems
B.young people grow tall very fast
C.young people often help their friends in time of danger
D.young people can do anything freely
答案:C 细节理解题。从“They also begin to love their partners. That love can help them to live a new life.”可得此答案。其他选项显然不符合题意。

参考范文:
Last Thursday, we had a class meeting to discuss where to go for our spring outing. We came up with several choices such as going boating, climbing a mountain, and going to an amusement park. Finally, we decided to go mountain climbing.
The next day, we set off early in the morning. While climbing the mountain, we enjoyed the warm sunshine and a beautiful view. However, when we reached the top, we were shocked to see litter here and there, such as bottles and banana peels. Then we started to pick up the litter. Afterwards, we put the rubbish into the nearby recycling bin and non-recycling bin respectively.
We were tired but happy.
